    From Y to Audi e-tron: a Comparison

We're a retired couple who decided to consolidate from two cars to one EV. Since my wife didn't like the lack of physical controls and minimalism of my 2020 Model Y, we're trying a 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron - the all-wheel drive version - instead. We don't road trip much and do 99 percent of our...

    Constant chime bug solved

Just FYI, after downloading the latest Tesla software update, the music one numbered 2021.32.21, I started getting seemingly random chimes as I drove. Rebooting the car, powering down, turning the music software off, etc. didn't help. It turned out the update had somehow started (a bug!) the...

Fascinating new book on Tesla and Musk

I highly recommend Tim Higgins new book, "Power Play," on the history of Tesla, and Elon Musk's role in that history. Musk doesn't like the Wall Street Reporter's recounting of Tesla's first 18 years, for obvious reasons when you read it. The book also isn't adulatory enough for fanboys or...

    A mouse ate my Tesla

My 5-month-old Tesla Y started going haywire when it lost its battery coolant. Turns out that mice had nested behind the Frunk and chewed through the coolant hose. I could drive the car to the Service Center, but non-warranty repair is a twenty dollar hose and more than $700 in labor, plus two...

    Cheap tool for hitch cover

I found a paint can opener works well to pry off the plastic hitch cover. Still need to move it along the upper seams to release the various catches but otherwise, presto.

Another happy Tesla customer, so far

With all the worries posted here about Tesla quality control, I'll mention that I picked up my first Tesla, a blue long-range Model Y, in Lynnwood, WA on June 28 and didn't find any fit and finish flaws. Beautiful car. So far everything is working just fine, and the vehicle is a revelation. I...

    Hauling long things

I know roof racks are an option but for this barbarian, can you fit an eight-foot length of lumber inside the Y? Does the front seat recline enough to shove a 9-foot kayak over it, as I do with my Highlander? (With appropriate coverings!) Trying to imagine practicality when it's Home Depot time.
