@morph3ous and @jjrandorin,
Appreciate the info. I was hoping that the car will pull only from the grid, but I guess not. I assume that while charging from the solar and Powerwalls, will switch over to solar and grid, when the Powerwall reserve is reached. And when the sun goes down, the...
Greetings,
I wanted to give a quick update. I have the 2 issues/needs/concerns listed below:
- @wwhitney noticed that the 100 amp breaker that feeds the Gateway was installed in a spot that supports up to 70 amps.
- My EV Charger is currently on the backed up panel. Wanted to move it to the...
Greetings,
When my 8.16 kW PV and 2 PW's were installed (Sep 2020), we went with backing up all the circuits, including the EV (Honda Clarity Electric) circuit. I just had Tesla come out to fix another issue, move the EV charger circuit from the backed up panel to the non-backed up panel. I was...
Hi gpez,
Ideally, I would like to move the EV charger (Level 2) to the non-backed up panel, so that in case there is a power outage the battery would not be drained. At the moment, I get free charging at work, so I do most of my charging at work. That could change at any time. If there is a...
Hi gpez,
Yes, it would be nice to be able to charge at home when I really need it. But, things are starting to sound pretty expensive to move things around. I appreciate all the suggestions.
Thanks,
GHTech
Hi Wayne,
If I have someone do a proper load calculation, and can get some of the of the appliances under the 100A limit, would I still need Tesla to get involved? Or can a qualified electrician run the circuits?
Regards,
GHTech
Hi gpez,
I have a GE WattStation. I am honestly not too concern about the EV charging, as I have rarely charged at home, in the last 5 years I have had an EV (Ford FOcus Electric and now the Honda Clarity Electric).

GHTech
Hi Wayne,
Yes, the info you read is correct. I have attached a screen shot of the details. Please respond when you ahve the time. I really appreciate the info. So, should I ask Tesla to come out to move the 100 amp breaker to the correct location?
So, if I want to move out the EV charger to...
Hi h2ofun,
I did purchase the blanks and was planning to swapping it out when my electrician comes by next Wed. to take care of some other work. I plan to relabel the breakers with properly printed labels.

Hi Wayne,
Thank you for the feedback. My load at home is not that much at the moment. My water heater, dryer, range and furnace is on natural gas. I plan to move some of these over to electric. Therefore, if I do move the EV to the non-backed up panel, and later on add the circuits for some of...
Hi Wayne,
Hopefully I can answer your questions without messing it up. I had a 200 amp panel that I upgraded in 2016. Tesla mounted the backed up panel just behind my panel (back to back) inside the garage. I have attached 2 pictures of it. They left some of the old breakers in place (on the...
Hi h2ofun,
With the EV on the backed up circuit, if there is a power outage, the EV could wipe out the batteries to charge the car. No way to have the car stop charging if there is a power outage.

Greetings,
When my 8.16 kW PV and 2 PW's were installed (Sep 2020), we went with backing up all the circuits, including the EV (Honda Clarity Electric), which I mostly charge at work, so it has not been too much of an issue. I am thinking that it might be best to move the EV circuit to the...
Hi Vines,
The reason that I asked is that I see others mention that a certain number of panels should be the maximum per string. I think that recently someone mentioned 16. I believe that my inverter can do 2 strings, and was wondering why they did not split the panels to the 2 strings. If it...
The numbers i am getting are better than the pvwatts calculator. I did the 3 directions. I was just not sure if they should have used 2 strings, or it does not matter.
Greetings,
I have a 8.16 kW PV, 2 PW system and a SE7600H-US Inverter installed Sep. 2020. It looks like I have only 1 string of 24 panels. I have panels on 3 different roof planes (16, 5 and 3 panels). Is this okay?
Thanks,
GHTech
Hi raustria,
I believe that in LADWP territory, the SGIP is handled by SoCalGas. Their SGIP Program Administrator was very responsive when I sent them an email. This is the email I used. selfgeneration @ socalgas.com

Hi,
I have a 8.16 kW & 2 PW's in LADBS territory. I got the SE7600H-US approved. Plans submitted 7/202020. Permit issued 8/5/2020. System installed 9/1/2020. Permit Finaled 9/8/2010.

Hi mnsweeps,
Sorry, I know I was not clear. I think that the Solaredge support tech saw only the grid that Tesla gave me, and did not notice the physical layout that I had updated.
Regards,
GHTech
Hi,
My situation was similar to mnsweeps. My install was by Tesla (8.16 kW + 2 PW). I contacted Solaredge, and uploaded a photo of the grid that had the serial numbers and also the map of the physical layout. The support person (without me asking) went ahead and matched the layout on the grid...
The old line was in the neighbors property and then splits off to my property at the meter. What they did was cap off at the split, and ran a new line from the street to my property. SoCalGas used a sub-contractor for the work.
Hi holeydonut,
My home was built in 1974, and they ran a new pipe from the street.
What is interesting is one of my neighbors upgraded their panel in 2014, and the gas riser did not have to be moved, even though it was located right under the panel. I asked the inspector, and he wanted me to...
Hi!
Just a comment on the cost of moving the gas riser. In my case, I am in LADWP and SoCalGas territory. Already had solar from 2006 (replaced with Tesla PV and PW in Sep 2020). I was replacing the Zinsco panel and going from 100A to a 200A solar ready panel. Had to move the panel or the gas...
Hi,
My contract does not show the breakdown of equipment used, which is what AAA is asking for. Let me submit my Tesla contract, Mosaic contract and the Tesla quotes, and some photos to see if underwriting will accept that.
Regards,
GHTech
Greetings,
My PV and PW system was installed Sep. 1st, and have received PTO. I financed the loan through Mosaic. I have my home insurance through AAA, and want to remove my old system (18 panels) and put the new system (24 panels and 2 PW) on it. AAA wants an Invoice that shows the breakdown...
Hi,
Can you check and see what the LADWP status page says for your location?

Greetings,
My SolarEdge app only had the dashboard like yours when I got the first email from SolarEdge saying that I now have access. I opened a case with SolarEdge requesting the Layout access and I also uploaded the pictures of the optimizer serial numbers and the layout map. The support...
Greetings,
Just (about 1 hour ago) got access to SolarEdge monitoring, and looks like the new firmware update for the Gateway (small one, and not the Gateway 2 - TEG) does allow the data to go from the Inverter through Tesla to SolarEdge. Screenshot attached. I had briefly connected the...
I don't have my check list any more. But, I remember having to ask him/her the optimizer map on it. You need the serial numbers, and also the map that shows where each optimizer went. I also had a request to see if they can move some panels from the east side to the west and south facing side...
I have a 8.16 kW PV and 2 PW system that was installed Sep. 1st. Finally, got PTO today. My Gateway (small black box) said "No Signal" from the first day. My Tesla App was working fine as it was getting the info from the Gateway 2. I called Tech Support about the Gateway a couple of times, and...
Hi Southpasfan,
I would call the LADBS to find out. My install went quick after the reroof was completed mid-Aug. Install of the PV and PW happened Sep. 1st. The LADBS inspection happened quick. LADWP PTO has been slow. Tesla finally sent the paperwork over to LADWP this Sun. afternoon.
I am...
Something else that I would be concerned about is that if the meter is not one that can recognize the direction of the flow of power, your bill maybe increasing by the power that you are generating. In my case (no PTO) yet, I had PV from before that I uninstalled, but my meter is capable of know...
My guy came out and just launched a drone for a few minutes, and that was it for the site survey. I did not ask for a visit. It may have also been that the visit was before my planned reroof. He did wait around and chatted for a while. He has been really helpful after the visit. For example, the...
Hi M3SRdude,
Based on the final design I was supposed to have 7 south, 4 west and 13 east facing. When they came to do the install I asked the lead if he could move more panels from the east facing to the south or the west facing. He said that he will try. But, when the crew started to measure...
Hi M3SRdude,
If you want a bigger system, you can tell them so, and they will try. I really needed only a 6 - 6.5 kW system. I ordered the 8.16 kW system, and asked them to reduce. They did. But, I thereafter decided that paying the $2K extra to get the bigger system (8.16 kW) at this time...
I don't have my check list any more. But, I remember having to ask him/her the optimizer map on it. I also had a request to see if they can move some panels from the east side to the west and south facing side. Wanted to check the conduit path, which I did not finally ask. There was a couple...
Hi MS3Rdude,
They installed 24 of the Q-Cell 340 W panels. Mine were installed on the south, west and east facing planes. They used 1 SolarEdge (SE7600H-US) inverter with 24 power optimizers.
My original system that was installed 14 years ago (3.5 kW system - 20 panels) was all on the south...
I My 8.16 kW and 2 PW system was installed nearly 2 weeks ago. I have a whole house backup. They installed a soft start on my 4 ton 14 year old A/C unit. The PW have been able to start it up fine during my off-grid test.
