Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

Has anyone that installed the special active shocks have any weird sounds over low speed bumps? It sounds like a double bump or knock when I hit a bump in the road around 30kmh/20mph. Doesn’t seem to make that sound any other time. I checked and rechecked all the torques. Nothing was loose...

    Model Y Suspension Advice

You can get the part numbers off of Tesla EPC catalog (just search the web and you’ll find it). They charged $0.50 a piece for the smaller ones and $1.00 a piece for the bigger ones. I would also suggest getting some spares of the upper strut nuts in case you drop them into the abyss.

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

Just got back from the alignment shop. The car drives a lot smoother over crappy roads. It feels more like a normal car now. This is with my 235/55R18 XL104 Nokian Hakka R3 SUV’s on as it’s still winter here. So far, I’m quite pleased with the change. The car is a mid 2020 MYLR with the Koni...

It was a long day, but they’re on now. Getting an alignment tomorrow. Will reserve judgement until after that is done.

    TPMS on non factory wheels

SL tires don’t change their load rating above 36 psi (or 35 psi on p-metric tires). I have always wondered about running SL tires with the same load rating as XL tires, but don’t have any experience on the issue.
  8. M

    TPMS on non factory wheels

Did you buy SL tires or XL tires? The factory tires are XL 104. If you have 235/55R18 XL tires, they are also 104. You still need 42 psi for that to match the 42psi in the factory tires. Is the an AWD or RWD Model Y?

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

Installed the Special actives on the rear of my 2020 MYLR. Will install the fronts next weekend. So far, they seem to make a big difference smoothing out bumps.

About to order 255/50/19 Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 tires (non spec). Any considerations/ other recs?

Looks good! Staggered or did you put 295 in the front too? Did they rub?

Help me decide on my next tires! (Michelin Cross Climate, Sport Pilot AS, Continental ExtremeContact DWS)

Are they quiet? My Hakka R3 SUVs are really loud. These are being replaced by the WRG5 Remedy this month. So, I may consider that.

    Model 3 wheels for a model Y?

You need new tires. 255/45R19 XL 104 Is the correct size.

Help me decide on my next tires! (Michelin Cross Climate, Sport Pilot AS, Continental ExtremeContact DWS)

I would assume $145 in 2016 was around a Billion Dollars today… 🤣 Also, these new tires are DWS06 Plus, which is a new version of the DWS06, which is a new version of the DWS.

Help me decide on my next tires! (Michelin Cross Climate, Sport Pilot AS, Continental ExtremeContact DWS)

In your scenario, if it required 10% more than the 25% to get there, it would have used 27.5% and you would have still made it. I guess the issue would have been the 70% it took you to get there would have been 77% and therefore you’d only have 27% when you stopped. I was in Quebec City this...

Help me decide on my next tires! (Michelin Cross Climate, Sport Pilot AS, Continental ExtremeContact DWS)

In your scenario, there’s a good chance that you wouldn’t make it anyway, since the battery would cold soak while you were skiing. Are you staying for a few hours or overnight? Are you parking in a garage or out in the cold? If it sunny out? How cold is it? There are many variables. Tires are...

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I’ve been contemplating getting these for my MY20 MYLR and still go back and forth on whether or not it would be worth it. I’m leaning towards yes at this point.

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

Very detailed, but is this a Model Y LR or a model 3? I ask because you posted this on a Model Y forum, but the tire size is that of a Model 3.

Dash rattle, hot glue fix per factory

I pulled off the piece of the dash with the wood on it. It rattled a lot throughout. Ended up using a lot of hot glue to get it to hold better together. The piece was a lot bigger than I thought. It’s not just the wood piece, but the vent behind it as well. There are also known issues with...

Dash rattle, hot glue fix per factory

I had a rattle in the front of my dash. Turns out it was the cover under the hood over the HEPA filter. Most of the plastic clips weren’t seated.

Does the 12 volt accessory plug in the trunk area of the Y stay active if car is turned off?

What are you trying to do here? Taking one battery and using it to charge another battery and taking that to charge another battery will not result in using only 5% of your car’s battery. A lot will be lost along the way. What are you trying to power? Why not power it directly from the car...

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

I had that happen too. I noticed while I was still at the Service Centre. Someone came out to look at it and it appeared. I think it may have still been updating. Check again.

will 255/50R19 work on 19" GEMINI WHEELS for model Y?

This chart also shows 1907 lbs for 36psi on a 107XL. The 104XL shows 1984 lbs at 42 psi, which is what I was using as the direct comparison. Individual use cases will vary of course. YMMV, right? It’s also worth noting that for non-LT rated tires on SUVs, the article states that the tires...

will 255/50R19 work on 19" GEMINI WHEELS for model Y?

Good info. Did you try the new tires at 42psi? If so, what were they like? Technically, to match the 104 load rating, the Toyo charts show that you would need just over 38psi on the 107XL tire to match the 42psi rating on a 104XL. Source...

Rattles driving me insane, please help my sanity

Regarding three, I had a similar issue. The cover for the HEPA filter under the hood was the issue. Most of the plastic clips weren’t secured. I also put rubber foam under between the clips and the cover to help stop the rattle.

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

so, I’ve had a rattle/creak sound coming from the front of the dash for a while now. I finally found out what it was today. Tesla didn’t secure all the plastic clips to the decorative cover over the HEPA filter. I put some rubber foam behind the clips and put it back in place. Rattles/creaking...

Has anyone with the old windshield washer system changed to the new one?

I just walked into the Service centre and asked for the new driver wiper arm for the Y. They got in for me. It was $95 CAD. There is no heating element in it. It has three separate locations of sprayers. Two of the locations have 2 nozzles. So, there are a total of 5 nozzles spraying vs the 2 on...

Has anyone with the old windshield washer system changed to the new one?

I just replaced the wiper arm on my July 2020 Y with the new assembly. The part number on the invoice is ARM & BLADE ASSEMBLY DRIVER LEFT HAND DRIVE(1658941-00-A). It fit with no issue. I do suggest using a puller. It was a pain to get the old one off.

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

Retrofit complete on my early 2020. Took a couple times for them to get all the right parts in, but it’s all good. Word of the wise, if your car doesn’t have the threaded holes, make sure they include the M6 rivnuts, washers, and fasteners.

Life span for Continental ProContact Rx Tires

I have Replika R241 in space grey with the 64.1mm bore. No aero cover. I see basically the same efficiency numbers summer and winter. My winter tires are Nokian Hakka R3 SUV. Very good in winter. Very annoyingly loud.
  43. M

Life span for Continental ProContact Rx Tires

My winter tires are 235/55R18XL 104 on 18”x8.5” ET40 wheels. Size works well on my MYLR.

Life span for Continental ProContact Rx Tires

Not a bad idea to have a second set of wheels. 18” wheels give you an opportunity for a little more sidewall too.

    Wheel Covers Other Than Aero

Haha, no. I was ready to throw them in the trash while removing them. Definitely not gentle. It might be just a quality control issue and not a wide spread one.
  47. M

    Wheel Covers Other Than Aero

That is what I had to end up doing, but needed to do that from most of the spokes before the covers came off.
  48. M

    Wheel Covers Other Than Aero

Not sure on efficiency. They were a giant pain to take off when I put my winters on. Took about 30 mins. Also, I couldn’t fit my air compressor connector into it, so I couldn’t add air without removing them. Not sure I’ll put them back on next year.
