FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I’ve posted before how my car creeps even when there’s a clear field of view so I’m not sure what the purpose of creep is.

I’d just hate to see someone get a fine because of your misinformation. @Yelobird posted clear evidence refuting your claim yet you either refuse to read it or don’t understand it. Regardless, you need to post come evidence as to why a law is not enforceable. (And no, enforcing laws doesn’t make...

Exactly. Posted speed limits are enforceable

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Both are true. There’s a learning curve with FSD and in spite of the warnings there’s a lot of misconceptions over what it can and can’t do. It seems like the free FSD trial program has been rather poorly executed. From the reports they’re just dropping it on people’s cars and activating it...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I was exiting a highway onto a cloverleaf that split into a carpool lane and a regular lane. They were both limited access highways so I don’t know if it was usi no the V11 or V12 code but it freaked out and couldn’t decide which side to take, suddenly braking to about 15 mph. There was no one...

I just got back from taking a test drive in a 2024 Model Y with my brother in law. When we got back to the dealer the parking space lit up on the screen so I had him tap the spot and press start. The car promptly backed into the space perfectly. It wasn't quick but it really wasn't slow, either...

    Tire/Battery Life in Arizona

I’m talking with my brother in law about getting a model Y. He lives in Arizona and commented that the heat is very hard on car batteries and tires. (He has an 8 year old Prius and has replaced the 12v battery 3 times already) What are people’s experiences with 12v batteries and tires with...

When I use the term ‘NHTSA stop’ I use it to mean coming to a full stop at or slightly behind the line. What you describe is something else. Personally I haven’t had issues with it stopping significantly behind the line.

Thought you were talking about a stoplight turning yellow but people do that with the other lights, too. It turns yellow any the first instinctive response is that all the lights are turning yellow.

That’s what humans do half the time - light turns yellow, they start to brake then decide they can make the light and proceed.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I think the term ‘NHTSA stop’ comes from Chucks’s videos. I was under the impression that it was NHTSA that forced Tesla to do away with the human-like rolling stop. Is this not true?

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The primary unprotected left I take is to exit our neighborhood onto a feeder road. It’s only one lane, 40 mph so pretty easy. IME, FSD still hesitates, stopping at the sign, then creeping, then stopping again before finally committing and it’s still too slow to start. It doesn’t seem to be as...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I don’t know if it applies to AI or not but my understanding is that the neural net is taught by showing it examples of ‘good’ driving. If that’s the only teaching method then the only way to learn what not to do is by inference. I could be wrong and maybe someone with more knowledge on NN...

I think you perhaps have different views on what constitutes acceptable but I don’t think you make things up. See my previous post about differing experiences. I haven’t spent a lot of time with the Automax setting, but the little time I’ve spent auto max compared to normal setting tells me...

Do you use the ASSO setting? I have it in the ‘old’ setting that lets me set the max speed.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Another point to consider for those asking “how in the world could they let this version out for wide release???” From what I’ve seen in the comments, the variability in experiences between users is much greater with this version than it has been with previous versions. Even if we leave...

It would make sense for them to collect disengagement data then collect real driver data at the disengagement locations to further train the system.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Must be. To expand on my previous comment - I drove to the airport and picked up my daughter last week. 0 interventions beyond tapping the accelerator to get the speed past the last 5 MPH. I took over around the loading zone for obvious reasons. After picking her up I set the GPS and it drove...

Here’s the problem - implicitly teaching a negative (I.e. don’t do something when you see this sign) is a lot harder than teaching a positive.
  28. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

    1. Clearly an issue that they need to fix, but I’ve noticed something interesting with 12.3.3 - it accelerates quite well up to about 5-7 MPH under the target speed then sits there totally content. If I don’t focus on the speed and there’s no one behind me it’s not at all unpleasant to let FSD...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

This is a relatively minor quibble with lane selection but in my drives FSD seems to be relatively poor at switching lanes when it will be quicker. Example 1 - coming up on a light with 2 left turn lanes. One has 3 cars, the other has 8-9 cars. It picked the longer line even though it didn’t...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I think we need to admit that no one understands how ASSO works and it’s likely a random AI-generated speed target that happens to coincide with what we do often enough to make us think we’ve done something. In reality it’s just the FSD engineers watching cabin cam videos and laughing hysterically.

Actually, based on my experience over the past 100 miles, yes. It’s been that good for me. It’s odd - I know there’s a lot of variability between cars and locations but at times it seems like I have a totally different version of software than some people here.

    - missing exits on the highway is unchanged for me and I suspect a V11 issue. - School zone/school bus management. The former has been extensively discussed and I doubt will be solved in the foreseeable future - 'decision wobble' - lane planning seems better in 12.3.3 but I agree it still needs...

  38. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

do you have ASSO (or whatever it's called) on? I have the 'regular' speed setting and it pretty reliably accelerates up to about 5 -8 MPH under what I have the max speed set at. After that a quick tap of the accelerator will get it to go the rest of the way. Still needs to be fixed but better...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I haven’t noticed it, but personally I don’t necessarily brake automatically when I see the brake lights come on on the car in front of me. Rather it prompts me to expect them to slow down and keep an eye on the distance between cars. I suspect FSD does something similar. It monitors the...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Joking aside, 12.3 would generally drive 5-10 MPH under the speed limit. Most people here drive about 5 MPH over so that meant 10-15 MPH slower than the prevailing traffic. 1. That’s slow enough to potentially be dangerous. 2. Many roads are 2 lane roads meaning passing is difficult or illegal...

Just to clarify, the car accelerates somewhat aggressively up to about 5 MPH below the speed limit, then slows way down. The accelerator taps I was referring to were to get it past those last 5 MPH
