FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Remember, for Alan it’s ‘completely typical’ for the car to oscillate between locking up the brakes and free coasting as it comes to a stop 500’ before a stop sign.

Would you Purchase a model Y Again?

The larger 20" wheels with the thinner sidewalls will make a significant difference in the ride for the worse. I don't know if there are other differences but it would probably be worth getting 19" wheels when it's time for new tires. I have an early (July 2020) Model Y and recently test drove...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It's actually not surprising - the neural net, machine learning approach is very different from past approaches. In addition, the further you get in the process, the harder it is to achieve significant gains/improvements.

re: the criticism he had when the car was creeping up to a line of stopped cars. One can argue that creeping is the appropriate action there rather than accelerating and immediately braking.

The stops at stop signs looked like perfect, textbook stops, exactly like NHTSA is requiring.

I don’t think I’ve *ever* heard Omar say something negative about any FSD version. Makes me think he and Elon are having a spat!

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

But the source or category of the problem makes a world of difference in the solution. FSD is only as good as the directions it gets from the navigation system. The two systems interact, but are completely separate. Nominally, a problem with navigation should be much easier to solve.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I’ve already noticed this - the speed issues with 12.3.6 are well known but it’s otherwise very relaxing for me to ride (er…drive) so if there’s no one behind me I’ll not infrequently not notice that I’m actually going below the speed limit.
  10. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Was FSD following the route given to it? If so it was a navigation problem, not an FSD problem.

but can FSD initiate rode rage when someone else cuts it off?

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Driving home from the airport Saturday the routing had me taking an earlier exit and a bunch of side roads. Thinking I knew better I overrode it and stayed on the freeway only to find out my normal exit had been closed for construction...

except the notes for point releases generally have no changes from the previous version anyway.
  14. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The release notes never really helped much, anyway. "37.6% smoother turns" - what the heck does that even mean? The most important information is that an employee got it meaning it will probably start going out to influencers in 1-2 weeks and the rest of us after that. In the mean time I have...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I don’t know if this is related but on one of the trunk roads I take frequently there’s a turn into a residential area about 500 feet before the intersection at which I typically turn. Recently, FSD has started veering into the turn lane for the residential area rather than waiting, not unlike...

Water entering into Passenger footwell from under glovebox, with fix

No - musty smells from A/C units are a common problem in many cars, not just Teslas. air conditioners dehumidify and extract water by blowing air over cold coils. This water normally drains out but if the water doesn’t completely drain it can lead to mold growth.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I’ve tracked my driving over the last 2 weeks. I’ve driven a total of 631 miles using FSD with a total of 8 disengagements. The disengagements/interventions were: Flashing red light x2 Missed highway Exit x4 Entered a turn lane rather than going straight x2 * Note that I am not counting...

UNECE 79 would appear not to apply to FSD as it specifically excludes 'category E' systems. It would seem that AP would fall under this as well: "a function which is initiated/activated by the driver and which can continuously determine the possibility of a manoeuvre (e.g. lane change) and...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Agreed. It would make sense for Mercedes, Waymo, Tesla, and the other players in automated driving to contribute to the UN guidelines but historically the US has done its own thing. I would think Elon would be even less likely to participate, but from a business perspective, it would be much...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

You're still conflating "at least" with "within." I can't explain it any clearer so I'll have accept that you can't and/or don't understand the difference. Thanks for citing section 6 - I hadn't that far; but sections 5 and 6 have some significant relevant language. The text of section 6.1.2...

*sigh* I tire of explaining the English language... You appear to be citing the page 11 SAE document which says: "At Level 3, an ADS is capable of continuing to perform the DDT for at least several seconds after providing the fallback-ready user with a request to intervene. The DDT...

    FSD Transfer

I can understand your frustration but you were you promised anything when you took delivery? I’m considering getting a new Tesla and FSS transfer is a concern for my. I saw Elon’s statement but would never have ordered or purchased without an official, written confirmation that it was available.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

My wife isn’t tolerating it; she genuinely doesn’t mind. I’m not the best gauge since I’ve been using FSD for 2-3 years but it really is comfortable to ride in.
  29. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yes - turn signals in the last version I had (can’t remember the version) were close to perfect but 12.3.6 is definitely not as good.

yes, see my posts above. you're misinterpreting the documents. Go back and re-read carefully.
  32. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It's the minimum number before the system starts a "minimum risk maneuver" (i.e. turns on the hazards and pulls over or stops) They do not list a maximum so saying "you need to respond within 10 seconds" is not accurate.
  33. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

not really - the question is whether the released version is smooth enough for you! odd you say they have insane standards yet you haven't been satisfied with the past releases. What does that say about your standards? 🤔:p Like everyone else I'm still tooling around on 12.3.6 and my wife has...
  34. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

No, Alan, it will never be smooth enough for you. You've made it abundantly clear that you like to set impossible standards that are five 9's outside of the norm for everyone else and then complain that the car doesn't achieve them. It's ok - the rest of us will be happy. And we can enjoy your...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

By that logic all numbers are made up, except for e, π, c, 6.02*10^23... Speed limits are numbers that have been decided upon and codified. "10 seconds" appears to have been made up by people here. The SAE document specifically mentions suspension issues as an example of an issue that should be...
  36. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Agreed, although could a remote user connect to the car and figure out what was going on any faster than someone that just woke up from a nap? Probably not but that also makes the assumption that all level 3 systems and uses are equivalent. I think initially when the need to intervene is more...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The logical inconsistency here is amazing! You can text and answer emails or watch a movie but not use your phone. You can wear sunglasses but it needs to be able to tell if you’re asleep. L3 is driving but needs attention monitoring software even though you don’t have to pay attention. If you...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Because in the post I cited you talked about L3 and needing monitoring.
  41. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It doesn’t even force the need indirectly. What forces it is human stupidity. Since L3 only requires you to take over in a reasonable amount of time you don’t need to be paying attention at all and thus monitoring software should be unnecessary. Again, by definition you are not driving the car...

  43. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm not saying no one enjoys them, rather I'm talking about functional benefit. A key difference between cowbells and FSD is people paid significant sums for FSD with the expectation promised features being delivered. Please don't tell me you can't appreciate that distinction.
  44. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I challenge you to demonstrate any actual functional value of the holiday release features. The light show, screaming goat, etc are simply toys and contribute nothing to the function of the vehicle. In the past holiday releases have also contained software updates but those would have been...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Depending on the glasses, the camera and the specific wavelength of light IR systems may be able to track gaze despite sunglasses. Beyond that, the system does look at the angle of your face and if it can see a phone in your hand it notes that as well. The last I heard, perceived phone use...

Avoid looking at someone else’s green grass and be happy with what you have. FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Perhaps. Or it may be because the neural net architecture is relatively new and they’re still learning how to train and use it. Regardless, I don’t see anything significantly different from past releases. People cite rumors and random tweets from Elon that may or may not have been made while he...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Agreed. Giving the ability to grab and drag the route with your finger would br great and they would easily show the ‘Avoid Tollways’ button when first setting the route. They could easily have a different routing/mapping algorithm for robotaxis. I still don’t understand why everyone keeps...
