Tesla Solar vs ....[third party competitors]

Tesla used a tile replacement in my tile roof. It is like a plastic tile with a hook underneath. So the idea that they only use the zep system is wrong. Certain building codes will dictate the type of mounting system.

Sorry. I tried to search but didn't see anything active. Also been busy and haven't scanned the tesla energy site in awhile. Behind on my news. Thanks

Tesla only taking orders of PWs with Solar

Just found out that you can no longer purchase powerwalls without solar. This is going to make Enphase, Generac, etc very excited. What are your thoughts on why they are doing this? Walled garden? Shortage? (moderator note: thread moved into existing discussion )

    How much solar per battery?

I wish tesla would configure their inverters to do curtailment.

Solar Panels install - Not going as planned

i agree that communication is key to a successful project... Also with our project, the team was scheduled for 3 days onsite... so the same crew showed up all three days, which actually took 4, and now still need over 15 tiles replaced... but that's another story... it is awkward though in this...

Solar panel project backlog in NJ

at this rate as long as they get it installed it should be perfectly fine... we are installed and have been for well over a month. But due to slow downs with the city and stupid plan revision issues, we have still not had final inspections... at this rate it will be December lol before we get PTO...

    No PowerWall Notifications/Alerts

We didn't get any notifications when storm watched enabled during tropical storm eta here in south florida. It just turned in and started working... we did get a notification a week ago when the power went out though.

    batteries vs generator

i agree with BrettS on the priorities... Also locations play a big difference. In South Florida when we went through i believe Irma. They turned off the natural gas lines to a friends neighbor hood after tree roots dug up a line... We also live on a zero lot line which meant digging up our...

Failed 3rd Electrical inspection and ZERO from my Project advisor

Unfortunately this is a big issue that i had with my install. They failed plan review for electrical 4 times. Each time it took's Tesla's Design team a few days to a week to answer the comment, just to wait two weeks to fail again... We finally got our permit issued after over a month of back...

Powerwall to replace high rise emergency generator?

I run high rises for a living, and elevators atleast in high rise buildings here in south florida are three phase 480v... the starting power needed to run an elevator is significant...

i really wish we could have a generator as a fail safe for when the batteries get low but still use the grid.. I guess there are to few of us looking for this to make it actually work in a somewhat elegant fashion...

Noob question...Solar intermittently stops production every 5-10 minutes

i can't imagine with the inverter running and power walls that they can't kick out enough power... 1500 watts shouldn't cause the inverter to reset unless there is something wrong. i def would get the solar edge app going and check for errors. also is the inverter one with a screen or...

Noob question...Solar intermittently stops production every 5-10 minutes

if you are doing this with the breaker to your utility off, what is the soc for the powerwalls? if they are anywhere close to 100% then that is why the inverter is turning off. It can't backfeed anymore power to the powerwalls and can't feed anything into the grid so it shuts down for 5 minutes...

Install day but crew left??? not sure this was worth it.

Yes they all have optimizers. Actually my production went up because they were able to move a couple of east facing panels to the south side. I think certain areas may start seeing certain premiums added due to difficult building codes. Quotes I had gotten from local vendors included pricing for...

Install day but crew left??? not sure this was worth it.

p.s. my install was done a couple of days before yours did and mine was not done perfect either. took over a week to finish and they installed the wrong size inverter. after a week of going back and forth with their production team it was found that it didn't actually effect anything due to the...

Install day but crew left??? not sure this was worth it.

it is a standard practice to glue down on some of the newer roofs... But alot of the "glue" is actually on hips and ridge lines like on mine and then they actually use a triple nail tile in florida for the rest of the roof... i said this before earlier in your post. your roof was installed so...

My 11.2kW Tesla Solar Project - Portland, OR

I've been thinking the same about our panels over the past week helping with the cooling costs... due to the roof size and panel layout our roof space is pretty much covered all around with panels and its seems to help shade the home... will def watch this more over the next few weeks.

My 11.2kW Tesla Solar Project - Portland, OR

i've not let it run long enough during a nice day, which there haven't been many in s. florida for the past week... The max i've seen so far at like 4pm is 7kw... again i ran calculations on pv watts originally based on an 11.4kw inverter and an 11.34kw pv system and got my production.. i guess...

Honestly. The crew who was on your roof, was the same that did mine. They were great and nice to work with. How old is your tile roof? Can't be to old if you are saying it is foamed on. Now I guess if they foamed the whole tile and bottom lip. I could see the crew having issues removing them... I said this before hurricane code is a bitch in s.florida. those tiles are not meant to come off ever. Most...

New Construction: Experience of getting new solar roof + powerwalls

ya they started it recently. Tesla didn't know until a few customers down here told them that FPL did recently start TOU rates. They did not offer them as of the end of 2018 when i last checked solar out... but retail rates are fairly cheap for fpl and i really need to dig in an do calculations...

Install day but crew left??? not sure this was worth it.

Our installers again in South florida say they basically only do tile homes and metal standing seam roofs.. also foam for tile is a new thing... less roof penetraions... also south florida building codes are the strictest in the country for hurricane purposes. Once the tiles go down they don't...

Thats really weird. I'm in south florida as well and just finished the other day with our 11.34kw system on our concrete tile roof... in fact I was under the impression they were glued, but came to find out they were in fact nailed in. The installers said the glue would have been easier to...

Florida doesn't like solar - move to roll back net metering

i believe sunpower makes triangle looking panels. on topic of the meeting from yesterday though. It seems that the early adopters will atleast get to stay on the original NEM plan. it seems a nem 2.0 will be coming in the future.... the commission is made up of sensible people it seems and...

12.24kW, 2 PW Install in TX

unless your net metering rules suck in Houston. net metering is much more efficient especially in areas were they offer 1:1 retail rates. the efficiency drop by storing and then unloaded from batteries makes grid storage net metering the best next to just pulling from pv directly. Main reason...

    Minimum tile weight for install

i just checked the website that our tiles are from. They are manufactured by Boral and come in at about 11 lbs a piece. Tesla told me that they don't come on site with any tile. They take photos of the tile you have and if any are broken then the operations team gets involved with scheduling to...

Told by Tesla I can't run AC on Powerwalls

would be nice to have that type of hardware in place, even for people during say a hurricane where you could roll out say a 12k portable generator and plug it into a rv style plug, and that could be used in case pv wasn't providing enough juice and the soc of the powerwalls fell to a certain...

    Minimum tile weight for install

that's slightly concerning... i have an install scheduled for next wednesday on our Concrete tile roof. They did do a site inspection but didn't get on the roof, because a neighbor down the street had the same house which was done by Tesla a year before. He stated since it was the same there...

    Unacceptable Powerwall fiasco

It seems your 3rd party installer assumed they would get more powerwalls. They assumed wrong and with everything going on in the country, the powerwalls are being diverted and low men on the totem pole aka small 3rd party installers have to wait. I would be passed at my 3rd party for not...

My solar and powerwall install is scheduled...

    Extended outage intervention

i'm telling you... always on devices when added up drain more then we all think. each may only be a few watts to a hundred watts. Solar panels and clay tile roofs

i actually got a quote from ProSolar. They were in the running with Tesla. I just couldn't pass up the price from Tesla. Solar panels and clay tile roofs

We live in South Florida and on the 23rd of this month have 36 panels being installed on a concrete tile roof. The roof is under 2 years old and they stated that they use a special tile i think under the panels that have the brackets being attached to them. They don't match but you never see...

I just went through all this with our local electrical reviewer. Tesla's local engineer and Master Electrician had a big zoom meeting with the city and county. We were over the 120% rule the city said for us and we have a 200amp main. And unfortunately I was in meeting both days they had the...

Is 400 amp service necessary for 3 Powerwall system?

We ended up winning the fight with our local building department and they approved our permit just a day ago. After 2 months of fighting. Is 400 amp service necessary for 3 Powerwall system?

i assume it has to do with the 120% rule... i don't think it is the service they are looking for, but more importantly the upgraded bus bar you get with a 400amp panel upgrade... My city isn't using the new nec2017 code yet and has not seen many pv systems more importantly pv systems with...
