Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

And here it is the "end" of winter, though it is once again snowing. I waited for a day when it was reasonable to try and put the Rally Armour flaps on and here's the report. What a struggle. Getting the old cupped mudflaps off was considerably more of an ordeal than I expected. The clips simply...

Rally Armor mud flaps - clips are falling out

OK. So when mine get here from RA next week...assuming I can get my car washed up, I'll be following their measurement suggestions!

Rally Armor mud flaps - clips are falling out

That is sooooooo typical in snow country! I had so much snow in the wheel wells after a trip last week in Montana that my suspension basically consisted of the tire flex! The real problem with this is that this accumulation of snow can/will freeze and if it hits anything, the snow/ice will break...

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

And, here it is at the end of the winter, and I've managed to keep them on, only by carrying along a trowel and clearing off snow after virtually every drive when it's been snowy...and it's been snowy a lot....they both have broken segments so I guess it's off to the Rally Armour website🤔

    Mud Flaps Model Y

And here's my latest (really) low tech advice....I put a trowel in the car and if I've driven somewhere and gotten a bunch of snow packed behind either the front or rear tires, I just use the trowel to knock it off a bit so it can't freeze and then bust stuff off....;) In Montana we're off to a...

    Mud Flaps Model Y

Just an update which I've also posted on one of the other mud flap discussions....If you drive in snow, any version which features a "cupped" design will definitely pack in snow, and eventually break off. I'd hoped the Tesla front mud flaps with their flat surface would be better, but the answer...

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

And a quick update...I was hoping the Tesla mud flaps, which I'd replaced the cupped version with would be better...alas...no. I lost one today so I actually have no mud flaps of the left side.... Aurgh.

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

Have a look at my comments regarding rear mud flaps and the cupped design that most of them feature. I've now been through three mud laps after they'd built up snow, hit a driveway or snowbank and snapped off. You're certainly welcome to the rear set I have. They'd be fine if you're not driving...

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

Oops...Didn't quite finish this... I have two rear plastic mud flaps, so if anyone lives somewhere and doesn't get a lot of snow, let me know and I'll figure out how to get them to you...

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

Thanks for the reply....I'd shied away from the Rally Armour because of the price, but at the rate I'm going I'll have spent nearly that much replacing the cupped plastic ones! If

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

Here's an update from Montana. If the mud flaps you install have a cupped surface that can capture snow...it will. The snow will eventually freeze and continue to accumulate and sooner or later you'll go over something that will contact this frozen snow, and bingo, the plastic clips break and...

    Phantom braking

The past couple times I’ve driven from Butte, Montana, up to Helena I’ve had a phantom braking event, a relatively aggressive one at that, the exact same place, about two miles south of the exit off I 15 for Boulder Montana. Nothing the least bit obvious on or along the Interstate that would...

    Model Y Mud Flap Saga

We’ll see how the Tesla ones do? I’ve seen the posts regarding how the Tesla ones come off backing through snow, but the problem I had was the large amounts of snow behind the front wheels with the RPMs. I’m hoping the Tesla flaps don’t accumulate snow like that and I guess I’ll try and be...

    Model Y Mud Flap Saga

Continuing saga. After some FedEx shipping confusion the Tesla mud flaps arrived. they’re a quick install and look fine although they don’t match the RPMs in back. They look like they might do a better job keeping the rear PPF free of road grit? Hopefully, they don’t come off in snow as easily...

    Model Y Mud Flap Saga

Good choice. The RPMs really did collect huge quantities of snow. Since I’ve now been through two sets of them….

Caution in snow if you have Tesla mud flaps.

Thanks! That’s what it sounded like from a couple of the other posts. I think I can do a better job of trying to avoid that than trying to keep snow from collecting behind the wheels. I hope I can?
  17. Tokodave

Caution in snow if you have Tesla mud flaps.

Posted on another thread as well…I have the RPM mud flaps and can’t recommend them either. The”cup” design traps snow which then freezes, you go over a bump/driveway and they simply break off. I’ve gone through 2 LF flaps and RPM won’t replace one so you have to buy a whole new set. Somehow...

    Model Y Mud Flap Saga

I posted on another thread…my RPM mudflaps can’t be recommended if you live somewhere that gets snow. The cup design allows huge snow buildup behind the wheel, a bump or a driveway and they break off. I’ve had 2 LF break off. RPM doesn’t replace individual ones so you have to get the whole set...
  19. Tokodave

RPM Tesla Mud Flaps are very nice

I can’t recommend these. If you live in the Northern tier, or anyplace where you can expect snow, the cup design holds packed snow behind both front and back tires. Under the right conditions this freezes, you go over a driveway or road bump, and the whole mud flap simply breaks off. This was my...

Anyone have problems after heat pump sensor replacement?

This was posted on another thread, but I'll post it here as well. My report on the work done by theSpokane Service Center: Drove over to Spokane on Monday, March 7th, dropped off the Y at 8 AM on the 8th, David at Tesla gave me an update on remote checking they'd done and the expected work. He...

    Model Y heat pump issues

They didn't give me an itemized list. I actually ended up with fairly limited use of AP on the way back....I 90 in Idaho is terrrible and I was taking over so often to avoid potholes I simply gave up. I used it sparingly in Montana due to the recent snow on the road in some places and not too...

And here's the promised update. Drove over to Spokane on Monday, March 7th, dropped off the Y at 8 AM on the 8th, David at Tesla gave me an update on remote checking they'd done and the expected work. He expected the work to take all day and it did. I picked up the car just after 5. They's...

    Model Y heat pump issues

Quick update...the parts are in but I had to reschedule for March 8th due to some scheduling issues I had and then of course, this week's bitter cold. Just drove from Helena to Butte this AM and it did OK in temps between -1 and -6.

    Model Y heat pump issues

Now set for the 22nd as the parts weren't in. I had texted them through the app to check but I'm not sure they would have let me know before I drove over there? I'll keep you posted!

    Model Y heat pump issues

No. Mine seem to be fine, as others have noted, the side markers are partially obscured by your hands since they are the bottom part of the screen. Seems like that would be an easy fix but it hasn't happened yet. In spite of that I do find the helpful. I do have a couple trim/fit issues with the...

    Model Y heat pump issues

As it turns out it would have been fine to take the T down there....just wasn't sure of the charging infrastructure... It turns out there's a Supercharger in Kremmling just 25 miles away from Granby where we were staying with friends. Between that and relatively abundant Level 2 charging it...

    Model Y heat pump issues

I have friends in Missoula on the way over and in the Spokane area so I'm OK with the drive over. My heat output has been entirely tolerable, even if a bit below what it was in the past. The heated steering wheel the Bolt had is something I miss though... Based on the numbers in Washington I...

    Model Y heat pump issues

Hmm...I'll look for you. I drive through Anaconda fairly frequently going up to Echo Lake for the XC ski trails! Mine only recently seems to be putting out a little less heat. I had a Chevy Bolt before the Y and my partner thought that should come with a Buffalo Robe. I have the service...

Has anyone here actually had the service done? How long does it take? If you can't recognize the picture, it's the Orphan Girl Headframe in Butte, Montana...so, yeah, it gets cold here.

    Skii Rack Suggestions

I have a hitch rack and carry my fat bike a bunch in the winter and your concern regarding road debris/salt/moisture is well founded. I have to wash the bike off virtually every time I have temps above freezing. I can't really say if the bikes on the rack impact range much as I haven't really...

    MYP 2021 range: ~190 miles on a 90%-charge. Normal?

I'm in Butte Montana and routinely make trips back and forth to Helena ~ 70 miles on I 15 at 70. It's 1600 feet downhill to Helena so I always do better on the trip north of course. I have no trouble at all making the trip and routinely get back to Butte with ~ 35% battery left. I charge to 90%.

    Charging near Glacier NP?

Good luck up there. I haven't ventured much north of Helena but it gets slender after Great Falls. I 90 and I 15 are pretty solid and there's going to be SC in Shelby which will help the trio to Canada, eh? If the border ever opens! Folks have highlighted all the Plugshare sites!

Hello everyone! I am a complete newbie, and am picking my new MY up next week. I’m so excited, as I’ve never purchased a car that I’ve never driven.

Hey another Bolt-Tesla transplant! Loved the Bolt and EV driving but needed a bit more space and AWD, since I'm a nordic skier!

Tesla home charger work on my Chevy Bolt?

I had a Bolt as my daily driver for 2 1/2 years. I loved the Bolt but needed a bit more room and AWD so I sold the Bolt and my Outback and the Model Y is now the everything vehicle. I charged the Bolt with the L2 and charge the Y at home with 1772 Tesla adapter and it works fine, charging at ~...

    rear door paint damage?

Looks like most of my dings are at the lower edge of the door...below the crease, which kind of fades out there anyway. Hopefully the combo of the RPM mud flaps and Tesla's PPF will keep future dings to a minimum. Montana is notorious for "sanding" roads in our winters...sand being a generous...

    rear door paint damage?

Posted on a couple other threads on PPF as well. Both of these look like they'd help. I put the Tesla PPF on and suppose I won't know much until I've been through another Montana winter.

    Yakima Ridgeback 2 Bike Rack

This is the Saris rack, a lot of bikers prefer racks that don't use the frame as a hold point.... I used this on my Chevy Bolt as well and would recommend it if you want to avoid racks that use the frame, relying instead on holding the wheels/tires.

Am I getting caught up in the hype of PPF

I posted about the mud flaps and PPF for the rear quarter panels on another thread...I'm still debating PPF/paint kit for the front of the car...
  46. Tokodave

Are rear mud flaps really necessary?

You actually get quite a few rock chips on the rear door quarter panel so the front mud flaps and the quarter panel protector sheets are probably a worthwhile investment. Given the airflow around the tires/wheels, it's hard to imagine there's much of a range impact. I haven't noticed any after...

Quality of Tesla shop rear door PPF ?

I added the RPM mudflaps and put on the Tesla PPF. Seems like it's pretty high quality and hopefully the combo will keep the area in front of the rear wheels from any further dings.
