    3 SolarEdge 18XB7 Failures

Hopefully the replacement comes faster this time, but is it the same piece of crap? Who knows. Yeah, Tesla always said they monitor the system to see if it needs service, that's obviously BS.

    3 SolarEdge 18XB7 Failures

My replacement SE 10000 just went (and by just I mean 3 weeks ago but I just checked the app today). Man I wish we would be notified when they blow. Lost the first last May and now this was mid June, last time took 3 months to replace. I'm really sick of losing peak production 2 years in a row!!!

    HVAC recommendation?

Are you sure about that 3kW reading? My 16 year old Amana 4 ton HP/AC uses around 1.9kW running in it's second stage.

    HVAC recommendation?

My Bosch compressor is rated at 56db which I believe is good up to the 5 ton units (I have a 3 ton). I can say it is very quiet which is one of the reasons we purchased a new system. Being on a lake in a natural environment we need something quiet and peaceful and our previous goodman system...

    HVAC recommendation?

Yes, it replaced an existing dual fuel AC/furnace. It is installed on my lake house which is roughly 2100ft. They used the existing lineset and ductwork but abandoned the chimney and ran a PVC pipe instead. It does a fantastic job.

Surprised by significant effect of panel temp on Solar production

Also check to see where peak production is in your area. For us in NY that occurs in April-June- by July/August production starts to fall off.
  7. Laketime

    HVAC recommendation?

If you are willing to spend a few $ then I would go for an inverter based system like Bosch or Daikin. I have both and they run super quiet and very efficiently. My Bosch (3 ton) has a 20.5 SEER rating, runs at 56db and the compressor can run as low as 25% output- which means it starts up...

    3 SolarEdge 18XB7 Failures

My SE10000 went around 6/2. I was home and heard a loud bang from the garage. Sure enough it was dead. They came and diagnosed around 2-3 weeks later and ordered a warranty replacement. I called and followed up along the way and finally the new one was installed on 9/15. That's thousands in...

    SolarEdge Inverter Replacement

Same here. My SE 10000 failed first week of June and as of now there is no replacement in sight. It is very frustrating to have lost $1000's in production with no end date as of now. Enough is enough.

    3 SolarEdge 18XB7 Failures

My 10k inverter is down since 6/6. Same unit as yours that was installed 18 months ago. My unit does not have the LED display. What kills me is I lost June and July and now going into August. That's $thousand+ in production. The replacement was approved maybe 6 weeks ago but I'm waiting and...

    Quote Accuracy

My quote was to the penny of what I paid. And they had to run an extra 80' of conduit when the PWs didn't fit where we originally wanted them.

    SolarEdge Inverter Replacement

Add me to the list of busted inverters. My SE10000 just died today. I was sitting in my den next to the garage (where they are installed) and heard a very loud pop come from the location of the inverters. Sure enough my power output tanked (per app) and I see blinking red and green lights. I...

No Solar Production with Power Outage

Sounds like they are working in line with the scenario I mentioned earlier. Changeover is only seamless if you are already running on the walls or the grid is up (you changed to self powered mode while grid is still running). If the grid goes down and you were not running off the walls it will...

No Solar Production with Power Outage

Your solar panels will stop production if the batteries are near full charge. Once the walls drop to a certain point the panels will go back into production to charge them back up. They can't produce more electricity than your walls and house can handle since the power has no place to go so...

    Validating Powerwall Math

Every time I read one of these threads I am thankful we just have straight 1:1 production credit and flat rate kWh pricing (all in around $.22). I know it's only a matter of time before NY changes tune but I will take it while I can and hopefully be grandfathered into the credit if it should...

Any experiences leasing a Powerwall system?

That is a terrible idea for all the reasons mentioned here. Having someone else own part of your home is crazy. Losing all of the financial incentives is terrible. And I have not heard that PWs generally need to be replaced at 10 years- do they have an expiration date? 🤣 Could you imagine a...

    banked credits at New Jersey

It's amazing how things can be so different from utility to utility and state to state. We are next door to you in NY and have PSE&G. In NY it's 1:1 credit for power supplied back to the grid. 4 cents sounds very low but I've heard other states that are similar.

NYSERDA : Change in Rebate stipulations has Tesla not participating

Plus with the roughly 10-12% energy loss in charging and discharging the walls you will actually lose money doing it (charging your walls off solar and letting the grid deplete them).

I would NOT want to allow them to take energy from my walls so that is a very big deal to me. I live in Suffolk the county next door to Nassau. We have our walls inside the garage and have the same energy provider as Nassau (PSEG). I have not heard of anyone else in Nassau saying they can't...

It was in the latter half of the install, towards the end. They basically got the panels, walls and inverters installed and then took the house down while they wired it all into the house electrical.

Does the Tesla inverter allow for more production than noted?

I can't speak regarding the Tesla inverters but my solar edge pair are listed at a total of 13.8kW and I regularly max out around 14.4kW with an occasional 14.5kW. And that is at the top of a well rounded bell curve, not flat topped like a clipped inverter. Based on that I would think I still...

    Changing to electric hot water?

My last gas bill dated 2/8 from National Grid averaged $1.13 a therm. Total usage was 346 therms for heat, HW and cooking. The way it is graduated anything over 50 therms is around $.96. Thankfully we are past our single and teens degree days and are moving into the 50's as prices are heading...

    Changing to electric hot water?

It's installed properly. If you check the plumbing and HVAC forums it's the single biggest issue (aside from app connectivity).

    Changing to electric hot water?

Yes- we have a shower head and the well water pressure is set to 50psi. But hot water doesn't work like what you are saying. It is coming out of the ground at 45 degrees (what we are experiencing upstate NY during this cold winter) so you need a 90 degree water rise. That takes time to...

    Changing to electric hot water?

Teenage kids are the death of hot water. A standard shower is me yelling one of the them to get out at the 15 minute mark. Today with the same HW heater you have my 17yr old took a longer shower (probably 13-15 min) followed 20 min later by my wife who ran out of water 5 minutes into her...

    Changing to electric hot water?

You can, but just understand that they are very slow to make HW. Do not expect your SO to take a nice shower and be able to then take one yourself. I had a traditional 65 gal twin element heater in my lake house and it would take forever to get ready for a second shower. We recently changed...

How much power does your home draw overnight? (Baseline energy use)

We have heat pumps out our lake house- 4 tons total and man are they super efficient. I run them down to 20 degrees and my winter bill is usually under $150 with electric HW and everything else. I love it, and the new inverter based systems are so quiet too. We also have a 1 ton heat pump in...

How much power does your home draw overnight? (Baseline energy use)

I'm not sure how they calc those numbers- do they include apartments etc. 600 watts is nothing, even my lake house where we spend 6-9 days a month at uses more than twice that. And that's with most everything shut off for a while. When I used to get my annual energy audit before we went to...

How much power does your home draw overnight? (Baseline energy use)

This time of year with no AC or pond pumps running (mostly gas heat/HW) we are using around .9-1.2kW overnight. Why not install 400amp service instead of 200 when upgrading?

I am only going off of my Tesla app, not actual draws. The first pic is from last summer when the temps were over 90 and our AC was cranking. (We have 8 tons total but the last ton is an inverter mini split that uses very little power). This pic is from last week. Those 2 spikes are from...

Why not install 400amp service instead of 200 when upgrading?

23 amps is a healthy amount of usage. It's more than my 3 or 4 ton AC's use combined.
  42. Laketime

Why not install 400amp service instead of 200 when upgrading?

I would consider an electric dryer as a continuous load- the heating element is on for the duration of the drying cycle. When my dryer turns on you see a large spike in usage that lasts roughly an hour.

Why not install 400amp service instead of 200 when upgrading?

I am partially heat pump and nat gas/ hydronic. But even if I was all heat pump it wouldn't change load calcs because it would be no different than me running my ACs in the summer. I find the electric dryer uses a shocking amount of electricity. Around here it is not expensive to go from...

Why not install 400amp service instead of 200 when upgrading?

Why would you really need a 400a service on a residential house? I have a 4700sq ft house on a 200a service with 3cac, 3 fridges/freezers, pool, pond, wine cellar, full work shop and over 150 can lights and my usage has never gone over 12kWh (and that was a high usage hour where it was 100...
