    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

You're mistaken about a few concepts. First of all, the regen bar at 20% doesn't mean it's 20% efficient, it means it's generating 20% of maximum regen potential, which is somewhere around 75kw Of course your car will still use up energy to overcome rolling resistance, air drag, and...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Well if you want to read more about how regen actually works here's a good link: https://www.tesla.com/blog/magic-tesla-roadster-regenerative-braking Your numbers and hunches are way off, and as you described, you almost never use physical brakes so that's the reason why changing regen modes...

Range for connecting to M3 using app (e.g., to turn on climate)?

Unless the car's cell service connection is weak and spotty, all the user needs to do is open the app and tap the climate control icon while the car is still in the wake up process. The climate ON command will be executed by the car once it has cell internet service. When the car is asleep, the...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Do you use physical brakes at all on the drives with regen set to low? I don't think you'll notice any difference in wh/mi unless you're using more disc brakes, thus converting potential energy into heat. I'd imagine that's for battery longevity and stable voltage and not only potential...

Just test drove a highland in Los Angeles

From the Motortrend review they say front end geometry was changed. But without someone experienced breaking down the cars and maybe trying to put the suspension from Highland to Original 3, it's gonna be hard to tell if they fit for sure...

Just test drove a highland in Los Angeles

you have it in your car? If you're near DTLA I wouldn't mind giving it a test ride and compare to my stock suspension and see if it's worth the upgrade for when the warranty expires!

Just test drove a highland in Los Angeles

Thanks for the detailed review. I absolute LOVE the instant turn in response of my car, but borderline hate the noise and the very busy ride. I guess for me the Highland would mostly be an upgrade.

Battery conditioning power draw in cold weather

Windchill does matter because airflow speeds up heat loss from the battery pack. The video was shot inside an uninsulated garage, and even though cold, it was still a good 10c warmer than outside. All of that heat's coming from charging the car. Even in the video's comments you'll see mentions...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

While this video showed impressive charging speed, it's not always possible to replicate for some Tesla drivers, like the ones in Chicago, I'll explain: 1. Video guy drove 78km on highways and could pre-condition the entire way, using 11% battery capacity just for preconditioning 2. He's...

That's interesting, you're talking about the latch that hooks the seat bottom cushion in place right? What kind of foam tape did you use?

Battery conditioning power draw in cold weather

If I were to venture a guess based on what other owners have said about how they get 3-4kw power from a 7kw Level 2 charger when it's like -35c outside, battery conditioning/heating takes somewhere around 2-3kw. Another data point is people who use a normal 120v outlet being unable to charge at...

Teslas crash more than gas-powered cars. Here’s why

That's correct, all of those actions listed are done automatically and invisibly in the background. Unless you have a Model Y, then off road mode would activate equal front/rear power bias, or a Model 3 performance in track mode, where you could tune the power bias and regen amount.

Teslas crash more than gas-powered cars. Here’s why

To those who think this is just some FUD, check this out: I've asked a lot of Tesla owners in snowy climates about their feedback on regen on ice and snow. It seem to me that most are very happy with how stable the car is under regen or braking, and that the car can sense low grip situations...

My first M3 review after 2 weeks of driving

WARNING: Unless you bought FSD, this behaviour will not always be available to you. You probably have 3 months FSD free or something from a trial. Normal autopilot will NOT stop for redlight or stop signs. There's another thread on this forum where someone almost crashed when their FSD trial...

Teslas crash more than gas-powered cars. Here’s why

Lots of people have learned to have very little finesse with the gas pedal in ICE cars. Especially in slower economy cars where you could repeatedly stab and release the gas pedal without a whole lot happening. Everyone knows someone who drives by stabbing the throttle, then coasting (even...

What's all the hubbub about charging in Chicago?

Terrible idea to use EVs as ride share at this point in time. Maybe in 10 years when there's 10x more L3 chargers and almost everyone has overnight parking with L2 charging.
  17. X

What's all the hubbub about charging in Chicago?

TLDR: Many people without home charging were using Superchargers due to the extreme cold. The cold made charging slower for everyone, combined with more cars trying to charge created very long lines. Some superchargers were malfunctioning due to electrical issues/ice, and a few Teslas had to be...

    Problem with Tesla Lock Sounds

So it's the same issue as noted in the Mac thread. File extensions by default are set to "hidden" in the operating system, and by naming the file "LockChime.wav", it's actually named in the file system as "LockChime.wav.wav"

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Some people say regen braking causes the rear end of the car to feel unstable especially when braking down hill or around corners, what's your experience in that regard? And I assume you have winter tires on your car?

2023 model 3 undercarriage bolts fell out

Same thing happened to me twice, one time it broke the undertray. I replaced it myself for $90. It's probably too cheap of an item and too easy a fix to go through insurance, unless somehow you have no deductable or are unable to get under the car to swap out the panel.

2023 model 3 undercarriage bolts fell out

All the bolts are in place as shown in the photo, the plastic undertray finally ripped apart after being driven into curbs aren other objects over time and wore thin. It's absolutely not a manufacturing defect, but careless driving and wear and tear.

Alarming rhythmic sound from front left at speeds over about 90km/h

First of all, bring it to a shop immediately, something's very wrong. I agree with buckets. Other plausible problems that I could think of, maybe loose underbody panel(s) or wheel well panels. If you want the internet to help diagnose, take a bunch of photos as best you can of under the car and...

Hankook new iON tire, an "EV" tire (not the same as Kinergy GT)

Ah, a bit disappointed to hear about the relative lack of wet traction. It's the bane of all high mileage, low resistance tires I guess. Seem to jive with other published tests in terms of wet braking vs something like PSAS4. I still think the Summer version would be good for us. They must have...

Bad headlight killed the whole vehicle?!?

You're absolutely right, I don't care what kind of headlights Tesla decides to use, it's simply stupid and ridiculous that a broken headlight could cause the car to be immobile. People who are saying how difficult it might be to isolate such system is missing the point. If Tesla can't keep a car...

Tesla launches Model 3 Highland refresh in North America - No Performance model listed as of 01.10.2024

It's not as big of a negative in North America where there aren't as many roundabouts as the rest of the world. Wish they'd just leave the stalks alone, the rest of the changes are all positive small steps in making the Model 3 better. I do wonder how much of the range, noise and ride comfort...

In 2023, who's making the best all-weather, all-season tires for the Tesla Model 3?

Great review, thanks. Not surprised to hear the ION EVO AS being less grippy on snow and on dry vs the DWS06+. the DWS06+ is one of the best AS tires, the only downside is slightly more noise and less efficient.

    2023 M3 RWD + Erange Tires = M3 Highland range?

Keep us updated, but from experience, I've never heard tire noise getting better as the tires wear in. They always just get louder and louder as they age for me.

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I think what you're describing is simply a short coming of the Model 3 chassis. Unlike other brands of cars at the $50000+ price range, there's no secondary frame with rubber isolators that connects the suspension arms to the chassis. There's always going to be more noise and sharper vibrations...

How do I check the health of the 12V battery?

I'd use service mode as shown here if I'm curious about battery health. The car detects weak 12v battery and gives you a warning, and keeps the high voltage battery on to give you days of time to change the 12v when required. Plus all kinds of battery monitors designed for ICE cars simply won't...

How do I check the health of the 12V battery?

My car needed a new 12V right at 3 years old, it sits in a 76f garage year round with only 20000 miles. Kind of surprised how quickly it died. Tesla replaced it for free, and the car gave a warning about it. With the newer software updates since 2022, the car simply won't fall asleep and keeps...

Yeah do that, also the Tesla service manuals are free to access, it wouldn't hurt to search for that on google, print/screenshot the instructions for the rear toe adjustment for your car, and show them to the shop. Some of the techs are ill informed or lazy and don't do a good job with the rear...

Pulling to the left with perfect alignment specs

Do you have the printout from firestone you could post? I know in the BMW and Porsche world, to do the alignment correctly, they'd first center the steering, strap/lock it down so it stays completely centered, put weight on the driver's seat to simulate only having the driver in there, then do...

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

Already did using strips of the fuzzy sides of velcro strips. It helped a lot, it's just super hard to narrow down what's making the last 5% of the noise because it only happens over really sharp bumps and I can't re-create it when I'm in the back of the car parked. I can bang on the rear shelf...

Solved: Road Noise & Front Wind Noise

I see, on my car there's still some small ticking noises from the rear. The seat material rubs against each other over rough bumps, and the rear deck/pillar plastics also have a very tiny rattle on really rough sharp bumps on the road, but otherwise it's quiet. The seatback latch on mine is...

Hankook new iON tire, an "EV" tire (not the same as Kinergy GT)

Nah, it does works for slow speed, shallow angle approaches like when you softly mess up a parallel parking job. I have a couple of cars with Michelin pilot sport tires with the lip, they stick out enough, like 3/4 inch, to make a difference. Not gonna help if you drive over a curb, but...

    Blind Spot cameras dim/inconsistent

For my car, it's always the passenger side camera, and ONLY when it's very sunny outside. It's like the camera chooses the incorrect white balance setting at minimum shutter speed or something. Never happened before the orange tint "fix" that they did, and 95% of the time the camera looks...

Same problem here. Ever since they updated it mid year to get rid of the yellow color tint of the side cameras, there's been a couple of problems. 1. How can I fix these scratches?

Definitely could be filled in with touch up paint and lightly sanded over to make it look 90% better. Look up ChrisFix's video on youtube on fixing scratches. You don't need to do that perfect of a job since it's at a place that's almost invisible unless you're a gnome.

Rollaway while outside of the car

Check/post it anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if your video shows the rear wheels locked and sliding on snow, and the front wheels are rotating as the car starts to "roll" away. The parking brakes only lock up the rear wheels.
