Stay away from large, nationwide chains like Just Tires. They seem to be establishing policies against repairing Tesla tires. I was turned away from one a few weeks ago, went to a smaller shop (a Goodyear franchise), and they plugged it in 10 minutes without even taking the tire off. I'm not...
The Achilles heel for VW isn't the drivetrain longevity (who is buying EVs right now and planning on keeping them more than 5-6 years?), it's the charging infrastructure. Range anxiety is what holds people back from EVs, which is why Tesla went after that before building a car even generously...
We own both a Model Y and a VW ID.4.
Fit and finish on the VW is miles ahead of the Tesla, it's not even close. VW ride is more comfortable, quieter. Turning radius on the ID.4 smokes the MY (helpful in urban environments where parking spots are hard to come by. CarPlay on the VW is a...
Check craigslist. I found a guy down here in LA who came out to my house and painted my calipers (and repaired one rim) for about half the cost of the cheapest shop I could find.
I installed the Tailwind on top of my MyQ Liftmaster system. I wanted auto-open and MyQ doesn't offer that. Installation was a breeze, and it's working very well now.
Wiring harness on the UHaul site is an additional $99. Unclear if this involves splicing existing wires or tapping them as some have.
Towing software seems to be available only with a factory or SC installed hitch.
Hadn’t heard about sensor recalibration but I believe the ones on the rear...
On a hunch I checked the UHaul site, and it looks like they’re installing the Draw-Tite hitch on the Model Y. Here in LA it’s about $477 all in (parts and labor). The cheapest I’ve found for an independent shop installing the EcoHitch out here is $400 labor (if anyone knows a cheaper installer...
That is not the factory hitch. You will be hard-pressed to find an install video of one, though I suppose there may be someone out there who had one installed by an SC who might be willing to take off their rear panel and show us what’s there. Lot of work, though.
Telling people they don't want the things they want is probably not going to work. I was stunned when I found out the 2021 "computer on wheels" I'd purchased couldn't open my garage door when the 2013 Battlestar Odyssey I traded in had no problem with it. Same the other night when I went to...
I am willing to guess grab bars are missing because they messed with the minimalist aesthetic. I'm sure Tesla considered some overly-engineered retractable ones or something, but that probably did add too much expense so they were abandoned.
Chevy Bolt is half the price of a Y and has an AM...
Yes, which is why people in this thread are saying they should be offered as a new trim level. But some aren't a question of expense.
Bird's eye view is an initial software engineering expense, after which it costs nothing to include it in every single car being made by Tesla these days. They...
Torklift has an installer search feature on their site. It looks the only one listed is a shop in Thunder Bay. Torklift Central | Torklift Central Hitch Tow installs trailer hitches for all types of vehicles, specializes in custom fabrication and manufactures the EcoHitch to help you Get Out...
Spotted here in Los Angeles. I suppose the bumper could have been a replacement after a repair? Somehow I doubt it, and even if it is, it should match better than this. I wonder if this is age? I will say my bumper is very slightly off in color but nothing close to this.
I think the illustration from the DMV is incorrect, compared to the text. The illustration indicates the small stickers should both be applied to the front bumper, one each on the passenger and driver side. The text indicates both small stickers should be on the passenger side, one on the front...
Your last sentence is the most salient. Does anyone expect the VW ID.4 (which is significantly cheaper than the MY) to have these issues, much less upcoming competition in the same price range from Mercedes, Audi, etc? Not to mention an eventual wider range of available charging stations...
As noted, there was a message on the service request from his manager, so I think he would have found it regardless, but it didn't hurt to show him that it was already being done by other techs.
This definitely helps, thanks! Mobile tech is out right now and didn't know much about the issue, but did say his manager had added a note to the service request. When he looked it up, he found the same article. I took a brief look at it and it basically says they are now authorized to trim the...
I would equate it to the better-designed digital cameras, which allow you to map your most-used functions to unlabeled buttons and wheels.
In this case, drivers could assign most-used functions to the right wheel, which seems to be currently underutilized. Click left or right to cycle through...
The bottom of the screen is terrible currently. Perhaps the worst are the climate controls. With the lack of physical knobs, attempting to adjust the temperature while driving demands a level of touch accuracy which requires you to take your eyes completely off the road. Miss by a couple...
I had the same issue. In retrospect, I wonder if I should have pulled the clip out slightly to open up the clamp inside the strut, worked the strut on to the ball joint, then pushed the clip back in, basically the strut removal process in reverse. Anyone try that?
Mobile tech came out today and replaced both clips (I'd only broken one) with newer versions that don't wiggle as much. He saw the Tesla Offer working and was impressed I'd installed it myself, but warned that if I had any trouble with the frunk lid at all, I should swap it out before bringing...
Are you sure the hook on the underside of the lid is properly lined up with the latch? I found the technique of marking it with a pen before removing it and then matching the marks when re-installing didn't give me as good an alignment as I'd hoped. I ended up crouching down and observing where...
Tools needed aren't much. I would say:
spudger if you're concerned about scratching interior panels, otherwise a flathead will work.
Pick tool for releasing the retention springs on the OEM struts
10mm socket for removing bolts
13mm wrench for removing OEM strut mounts
Hex or torx bit for...
For those who have installed themselves, does this look correct for the passenger side plate after being screwed on? I'm not sure it's resting on anything, and it's kind of "leaning" against the side of the fender instead of sitting flush. Feels like the screw will be doing all the work, and...
According to the Tesla parts list for the Model Y, these are called "Apron Trim Clip 10X2.5." Just curious if this is a standard clip I could source online.
Hi All - does anyone know where I can source these clips? I believe at least two fell out of my front underhood apron when removing it from the bay. Either that or both of them at the lower corners are missing. In addition, I believe I snapped off the catches on the side of the panel where they...
Got it, I wasn't clear if you'd swapped out the OEM bolt for the new plate.
I agree, it seems like a piston should work one way or the other, and the recommended install is to make sure the wires don't get caught by the frunk lid opening and closing.
I do think a mechanic may have better luck...
You connected the bottom to a bolt, or to the plate that comes with the kit and attaches to the frame? If it's the plate, can you unscrew that and pull the whole strut out?
The guy in this video (which is linked on TeslaOffer's site) mentions he's an installer in the Bay Area:
From the info of the video, his email is [email protected]. I haven't used him, so this is just info being passed along.
Comparing it to other manufacturers' nav systems is fair, but it's also not the complete picture. Clearly Tesla has provided an API to developers to port their software to the Tesla system (the arcade alone is evidence of that). I imagine it would be almost trivial to allow Google Maps (and/or...
It may be second to none in terms of OEM nav systems, but it started out way behind Google Maps and Waze, and so far isn't showing much sign of catching them. Not having multiple waypoints in 2021 is ridiculous. I'd file this under, "why are you spending so much time and money trying to compete...
Agreed, but I find dust everywhere, on all surfaces, after a long day of work. I guess we could argue about this for a while, but I'd feel a lot better personally if I secured the handle in some sort of receptacle. And I'd rather just do that than argue about whether I should have to or not...
Not a bad question at all, and I am doing the same with my current organizer. However, I also use my garage as a workshop, and while I try to manage sawdust as much as possible, I am concerned with some getting in to the charging port of the handle. I could probably fashion a cap for it (or I'm...
Does anyone know of a wall-mounted cable organizer where the charger rests in a receptacle on the side, instead of sticking out of the front? I have to park the car somewhat close to the wall the cable organizer is mounted on, and I worry sooner or later I'll bump against the plug sticking out...
