The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

Very happy new '23 M3P owner here Any concerns with 19x10 +40 fronts with 275/35 PS4S and 19x11 +55 305/30 PS4S? Stock everything. Looks like plenty of clearance in the rear and tires are well under the fender. Fronts will need 3-5mm spacers, and stick out a little. This will be my track setup...

    Improve cooling of drivetrain

According to 'sources familiar with the situation', who I spoke to at a track event... The algorithms which trigger power-limiting are not mechanical sensor based - they are software based. If more than X amount of energy is used in less than Y minutes, power limiting kicks in. It's a very...

    Firmware 5.8

Got 5.8.49.30 two days ago. 'Starting' / waking up the car is much faster now... the dash starts immediately. Energy saving is On and vampire losses are the same as .22 (~4 miles per 12 hours). Rebooted everything to make sure. Anyone else notice this behavior?

Vossen VVSCV4 22" and 20"x10.5 on front and rear

Find that very hard to believe, without them sticking past the front fender lip. Definitely verify this with Vossen and ask them to send you close up pictures which show wheel position relative to fender lip... you can play games with the camera angle, so they look like they dont stick out.

Got it. Makes sense. It is a great looking wheel

20" Winter wheel setup; tires thanks to Doc @ TireRack

Not meant to be critical at all...but why did you end up going with wheels in an offset you didn't want and BMW center caps? Seems like a lot of work of 'fix' these wheels.

    New 20" Wheels & Tires

I did not consider 255/35s as I wanted to stick to stock height or a little taller. 255/35/20 is 3/4" shorter than stock... too short for me.

Fitting aftermarket wheels to Tesla wheel bore size help

Completely agree with wycolo. You don't need sub-millimeter precision here. 64mm +/- a few tenths will work fine. I mean 0.1mm is ~4 thousandths of an inch... a race wheel will deflect up to 65 thousandths of a inch under load! You need to torque the wheel in steps and in a star pattern exactly...

    New 20" Wheels & Tires

You should definitely do one track event in the car... it's an amazing, fun track car, especially considering its weight. The instant, on-demand torque... on every corner-exit and long straight is something you have to experience. But no, it's not going to become your 'regular' track car. Given...

    New 20" Wheels & Tires

Good eyes, that is Willow Springs. Charging was not a problem... I topped off in the morning at a Nissan dealer close by the track. And charged again at a local college after leaving the track. (All found via chargepoint website). There was no need to charge on track as I hit power limiting...

    Regenerative Braking

Single biggest reason a dumped my Prius. Hated the brakes: Very non-linear, impossible to modulate, and just plain felt like crap. Of course in a 10sec 0-60 car, you can't get yourself into too much trouble. I would not have purchased the Tesla if any of the regen was associated with the...

New tires, now 'crabbing" and lower efficiency

Have you rebooted? A few times my energy usage has gone crazy (600 avg vs 450 avg on a long hill section of my commute) Rebooting fixed it.

Staggered 19 and 20 inch wheels?

Yes, 255/45 and 285/40 (slight front tire rub) or 245/45 and 275/40 (likely no rubbing).
  26. D

Staggered 19 and 20 inch wheels?

I'd get the wheels/tires I really wanted (vs getting a slightly wider size in a wheel I didn't like as much). Are you considering the Blue/black machined finish?

Questions about charging in "charge stopped mode"

Have the similar question as OP. Not sure I understand the issue with leaving it unplugged and plugging in/topping off every 2 days - exactly what the car does, just to it manually. I can't leave my car plugged in 24/7 due to multiple cars/garage/driveway layout.

Staggered 19 and 20 inch wheels?

Most people who change wheels are choosing staggered. This setup will give you a little more under steer, but you can get on the throttle much earlier out of a corner. Very happy with my staggered setup. Many people are running 9" F and 10" R in 19s all the way to 22s. For a 9" front, safest...

    [lolachampcar] Performance Upgrade Efforts

Really interesting results. I completely follow this. Looks like the air shocks are stiffer in both compression and rebound vs the coil shocks. Air shocks with stiffer/lower coil springs would be the ultimate combo. I dont follow. Why not match the shock valving of both setups and also match...

    New 20" Wheels & Tires

Ended up changing my rear wheels from 20x9 to 20x10 / 38mm offset and 285/35/20 Pilot Super Sports. No rubbing on inside or outside (tested with tape). Two reasons: The rears just needed to be wider to properly fill up the wheel wells. And I plan to lower/stiffen my suspension, so I will...

Air Suspension no longer lowers at highway speeds (FW update v5.8)

I don't understand the request to make this optional (opt-in). Is the plan to raise the car if you see an obstacle in front of you? Or swerve out of the way? Or is there no debris on the roads you travel?

P85 with 285s on rear made a bigger than expected difference

No, the RE-11s are stickier. I misread your post and thought you didn't want such a short tire... the PSS is available in a 255/19 & 285/19 in stock diameter (slightly taller).

    20" Aftermarket Wheels

35mm-38mm offset is perfect for a 10" wheel in the rear. This will look really good.

    20" Aftermarket Wheels

    1) The 25mm wheel will be 10mm (~1/2") more outboard than 35mm. So it will "fit" as far as not rubbing on the inside. Unclear if it will look 'flush' with the fender or look like it sticks past the fender. Definitely have them test fit the wheel before mounting the tire. 2) Same comment from my...
