Yeah thats what I've always done with the 303 spray on the towel, then wipe. Have you not seen streaking with that particular product on the fake leather areas? The last Model Y revision has it on the doors and center console and makes it difficult to avoid.

I got it deposited right before the $10,000 hike (lucky timing) and I asked them about that situation. They said that they would honor whatever it is at the time of the deposit. If it went up, you don't go up. If it went down though, he said they'd match. Mainly why I put down the deposit.
