What came first, your EV car or the L2 charger?

My first BEV was a used 2003 RAV4-EV. It technically came with a 240V L2 charger, but I didn't have a 240V outlet for it so I just plugged it in to a 120V L1 outlet. We had two 240V outlets installed a few months later, just before getting our second BEV (a Roadster). Even though I had the 240...

When did model x get self presenting doors

Yes, that part was clear - no premium package, no self-presenting door. What I meant was that it wasn't clear if you would lose more than that without the package, such as the ability of the driver's door to close when you tap the brake pedal. All of the electronic door functions were described...

When did model x get self presenting doors

Yup. Without the package, everything is the same except the door doesn't automatically open when the fob approaches. This was not clear in the package description back in 2017...I thought we would lose a lot of functionality by not getting the package, but we ended up missing out on very...

When did model x get self presenting doors

When I bought a Dec 2017 X 100D, self-presenting doors were an option...and we did not take it. The doors still opened and closed electronically, just not automatically based on fob proximity.

EV tax credit and EV charger credit

You can look up your census tract HERE. Enter your address, then look for GEOID under "Census Tracts". If that 11-digit number is in the IRS' Appendix A or B (one for rural tracts, one for low income - you only have to be in one of them, see HERE) then you can take the credit. Mine isn't; too...

If that 11-digit number is in the IRS' Appendix A or B (one for rural tracts, one for low income - see HERE) then you can...

    License plates

As others have noted, this likely differs by state. For me in WA, most of my Teslas (including the X we bought two months ago) the plates have arrived the day before the temp tags expire. I know at least one (perhaps more) was early, and one was a few days late.

    Round Trip Estimate

It has been there for years, but it hasn't - at least in the past - always been shown. I can't remember the trigger to get it to show up now - you either have to stop charging, or start driving, or remove charging stops, or something like that. I know in the past I've wished it was shown without...

If only the Model X had a 110 outlet (like Ford & Rivian).......

In addition to using my Rivian's 120V outlet for camping, I just tested it yesterday with my EcoFlow power banks. I set it to 1400W, and it worked great to charge the power banks while they were busy powering my house. 240V would be even better!

    2023 MYP to 2023 X LR

I had a 2022 MYP until a few months ago. My wife had a 2017 X 100D for 6 years until last month when she traded it for a 2023 X LR. We agree with most of Milan's post. I would point out that the parking assist noises can be turned off (one of the first things my wife requested I do). I agree...

Ordering a Tesla: my first in 2009 vs. my fifth in 2018

And just today, we got Tesla #9. Well, maybe it's #8.1. Hot Wheels 1:10 RC car. Probably the only next-gen Roadster I'll ever have. My 3-year-old grandson LOVES it...as long as I don't try to control it remotely.

Ordering a Tesla: my first in 2009 vs. my fifth in 2018

Earlier posts in this thread covered our first 7 Teslas. For a while I figured if we got an 8th Tesla, it would likely be a Cybertruck for towing. However, the Cybertruck didn't exactly come out on time, and we ended up getting a Rivian instead. We are pretty happy with that. But an 8th Tesla...

    Falcon Wing Door Concerns

We had a 2017 X for 6 years. The falcon wing doors weren't what we would have picked at the time if we had a choice, but they worked great - they never ran in to anything the whole time we had the car, and we used them a lot. In fact my wife appreciated how easy they made it to get grandkids...

Will Model X Qualify for Tax Credit in 2024? Or disqualified because of battery requirements?

No, paying early doesn't work. The IRS is only interested in the date you take legal possession of the vehicle.

    Range extender connector contemplations

They MIGHT be able to add it later on. But from what I've seen, if there's a feature you need from Tesla, it's best to not purchase anything until that feature is shipping. Last-minute changes and cancellations are common. As far out as the "expected" ship date is for the range extender, I...

New "Universal Wall Connector" doesn't charge the Rivian.

My universal wall connector is on 23.24.3, like some others that are having problems. But mine works fine with a Hyundai Kona and a Rivian R1S. (They both flash a red light at first, but after a few seconds everything turns green and charging proceeds as expected).

    lost all steering wheel functions

Not exactly like that...but the steering wheel buttons on my wife's Dec 2017 X 100D seem to work sometimes but not others. She says that once a reboot and once a firmware update made things better...for a while.

If only the Model X had a 110 outlet (like Ford & Rivian).......

The 120V outlets were a big factor in why I got a Rivian in June after having driven only Teslas for 14 years. But the joke's on me...my 120V outlets don't work, and I can't get a service appointment until November. Sigh. Do Teslas support inverters now? Around 10 years ago Tesla warned us not...

New Standard Range Model X and Model S - what's in the battery pack?

I know it's hard to believe Tesla is just giving away battery when they could put in a smaller pack. But the software lock path, in addition to being by FAR the easiest way to put out a cheaper car (no development, no crash testing, etc), also gives them a possible path to future revenue if they...

    Tow hitch Effeciency

That's how my wife drives hers around. We assume it reduces range, but we assume it's just a very slight amount. Years ago several of us took our Roadsters on a ~200 mile trip. We all got very nearly the same efficiency...except the one with a bike on the back, which got 5% worse. Later I ran...

TFL checks out the new Silverado EVs

AzRivOs (assuming you meant their post rather than yours) went up 2,000' feet with a 7,000lb trailer in the leg where he got 70% reduction. Sure, that sounds about right. As I said, I am sure there are cases. Towing an extra 7k lbs up 2,000' should use about 28 miles of range (over and above...

TFL checks out the new Silverado EVs

I am curious as to what trailer results in a 70% reduction. I tow a trailer on the highway, and 50% reduction from rated range (in bad weather) is the worst I have seen. I follow towing threads in these forums as well as Rivian forums, and I can't recall anyone seeing a 70% range reduction. But...

Would you have bought a Tesla if there was $0 tax incentive?

It depends on the Tesla. I bought seven, and some of them didn't have a tax credit, so obviously it wasn't critical. But for a couple of them, it was. Now that prices are where they are, it's likely I would buy without one. Then again, I don't need another car, so I have no plans to do so. But...

Upgrade from Model Y to Model X

Of course it all depends on what's important to you, but I'll list some of the differences I've noticed. The X is 6" shorter, more efficient, has Supercharger access now rather than next year, has auto-close doors, much better music options, has more comfy seats (for us, anyway), autopilot...

Directions to Supercharger - Need Improvement

Upgrade from Model Y to Model X

We've had both, and I agree with what others have said so far. I preferred the Y for my mostly-around-town driving because it was smaller - more nimble, more efficient, easier to wash and park. And it's cheaper too, hey. Plus it will (likely) have fewer issues. But my wife always strongly...

What camper will you tow with your CT

Our 2017 X is rated at about 300wh/mi, but we never see that. I think our lifetime average (before towing) was about 365wh/mi. When towing, we've seen anything from 500wh/mi (good weather, sticking to 55mph) to 600wh/mi (cold, rainy, averaging 60 or so). So if you want to look at worst case...

I love this cargo-area solution that covers the seatbacks AND the sides of the cargo area. It was easy to install and fits perfectly. MYP All Season vs Summer Tires

I have both. In fact I recently changed from all-seasons to summer tires on my MYP. The all-seasons are a little quieter and softer. And they brake a whole lot better when it's below 40 degrees. But oh, the grip on those summer tires is magnificent. If you have space to store a set of tires...

I would like to update my response, as I just changed my MYP from all-seasons to max performance summer tires (Pirelli's PZERO Elects). The tires make a big difference! Sure, the summer tires are louder, noisier, more expensive, wear faster, and more subject to blowouts...but the grip is...
