I'd second that. I would also add a word of caution if, like me, your immersion heater has a 3-pin plug on it, designed to be an emergency use only if the gas boiler fails. A lot of 3-pin plugs and sockets, despite being rated for 13A continuous, will not cope with this over an extended period...

Could it be related to how quickly your battery can charge, akin to how fast you can charge sometimes when cold etc when plugged in? I mean, that is effectively what regen is doing - if the battery canna take any more, cap'n, for whatever reason, then the regen will stop.
