Deep scratch in front bumper / fender. Best approach to fix this?

If you're looking for a slightly cheaper route, you can buy a bumper cover online and put it on yourself (get OEM!), not sure if those come pre-painted, but if not, a body shop can paint it for you. A lot of money is in labor, if you're willing/ able to do it yourself Teslas service manuals...

    2024.8.9

I thought FSD would be great on a long trip... Nope, that's not really what it's meant for, it's meant for secondary roads and cities. Regular AP is better on the highway. FSD kept putting me in the second lane from the right which really annoyed other drivers because while the speed limit...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Porsches are track cars, not drag cars. Their allure is how they look and drive, not their acceleration numbers (though those are good too)

    “Summon” isn’t so “smart”

I tried it. But the amount of time it took was ridiculous, I'll just walk to the car

    Auto park/summon

I know, i was just replying to a post that said the trial didn't come with it. I may have read it out of context though. I'm in an even worse situation with my USSless M3. I have my updates set to "advanced" so I'm on 2024.8.7 and no FSD trial at all for me

OTA updates. Friend or foe? Who's car is it any way?

Lol, I stayed ar 2022.20.9 for awhile, but blinker cameras, and location of nav directions annoyed me. I, too wanted to keep radar, but after riding in a friend's car with fsd (radar was turned off for fsd drivers awhile back), I considered it good enough and not worth missing out on all the...

    Maintenance costs

Is that not a warranty item? I imagine they can't just fix a knob, they have to replace the whole assembly (aka seat). $1000 for s seat replacement sounds about right

Auto steer doesn’t change lane [Lane change is part of EAP / FSD]

I had a 2010 prius. I got it used, but the tech package was $5k. That gave the car LED headlights (remember... 2010), radar cruise, lane keep assist (had camera to see lane lines), auto park assist, and pre-collision stuff like auto- tightening seatbelts if it senseda collision could be...

Enjoyed Model Y 3 years now, going to be out of warranty soon, and issues are starting to happen left and right. How is everyone else's experience?

I love when posters follow up with their issues. I cant tell you the number of times I've searched for an issue (not always car related) and see someone else had that same problem... says they're going to try something, then never reports back.

Auto steer doesn’t change lane [Lane change is part of EAP / FSD]

Thats actually not bad and would solve my biggest annoyance with the car on long trips. I wish Tesla would offer it native to the car (like every other manufacturer under the sun).

21” Ubertind wheels touch up paint

What if I just want to dap a dot of paint here.... I dont really need a whole can, I'm just looking for a touch-up pen. I dont have rash, I have a nick from a rock (?). Maybe I'm being too anal, I just want to protect the rim from (possible?) corrosion. I'm looking for a <$10 solution.

Enjoyed Model Y 3 years now, going to be out of warranty soon, and issues are starting to happen left and right. How is everyone else's experience?

My issue with the warranty is that it's only 2yr/24k(not sure on miles, but close). So you're basically betting $2k that you're going to have problems that the warranty would cover in a small 2yr window that will be more than $2k. Make that 5k for 5yrs and you may get my money.

Can you Walk-in and buy a Tesla Model Y on the spot? Inventory shows Immediately Available

Can you Walk-in and buy a Tesla Model Y on the spot? Inventory shows Immediately Available

I don't think so literally. The fastest way to get a Tesla (other than 3rd party) is to order one in inventory, but even then you may need to wait a week for them to ship it, clean it up, and prep for delivery. Only going off my own experience. I bought an inventory model in 2021 and...

Deep scratch in front bumper / fender. Best approach to fix this?

I'd polish it first and see how bad it looks. It will likely look at least 50% better after 5min of effort. Any mild abrasive would work, but I'd use car wax/ polish and some "elbow grease" to see what I was left with

Games... why are they different for different years (3/Y)?

My cars are both on the same software (whatever was most current at the time... and today 2024.2.7). It's a vestige of previous installs on the Model Y. It would have been nice to have the old school games on the car I drive most (the Model 3), but it's such a minor thing I wouldn't create a...

How is it Possible my 2023 MYLR Trade in value is so low?

A 2yr old Ferrari costs drastically less than a new one. Also, a first year Tesla Roadster will fetch a pretty good penny. It's all about scarcity. There are a million Model Ys out there, they're going to have a very stable value, whether it's low or not. They're a dime a dozen
  20. Tha_Ape

How is it Possible my 2023 MYLR Trade in value is so low?

Cars bottom out. Leasing is the safer option if you're worried about resale. It's a known loss. However, if you plan on keeping cars >5yrs, owning is the way to go. The great thing about the Model Y is there are millions of them so parts will be readily available a decade from now. I...

Security Concerns with Pin-Connected Aftermarket Gadgets?

I'm not a fan of connecting anything to my cars network that isn't OEM. Teslas warranty explicitly says it doesn't cover hacking/cyber attacks. That said, I'm probably overly paranoid as well.

Yea... that won't sell. They're waiting for someone to "make an offer". For my 21 I had Tesla do it for $300. When i got my 23, I decided it was worth 10min of my time and a bit of risk to save $200. I got mine for like $160 a few months ago and installed it myself in a few minutes. No...

Why choose Model 3 over Model Y if you can have more trunk space?

Is the new Macan EV a MY killer?

Great car to buy 2nd hand. In a couple years Some of those Taycan "Turbos" are selling for 70k less than they were new. (175k -> 105k). I guarantee that Macan will be nicer inside and have a quality feel, but you'll pay a premium for it.

An ultra-efficient model option - narrow tyres

I think it should be an option, it's just not one I'd do. I had a Prius Prime for a bit. One of the first things I did was get rid of the efficient tires for something with more performance. I'll give up some mpg (or mpW in this case) for the ability to stop, turn, and handle adverse...

Tesla launches Model 3 Highland refresh in North America - No Performance model listed as of 01.10.2024

I've only done 20ish track events and I've hit 125 in a couple of cars (1st gen CTSV and a G35 coupe),but that was the limit for me. I'm sure a better driver than me could get better exits before the straight and go faster. I think it depends on which tracks you go to. VIR is where I...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Yea, theres a reason Tesla reintroduced the round steering wheel on the Model S, My guess is the yoke was hurting sales. No other reason to about-face on that.

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Not gonna lie... the rumor of lack of stalks along with unknown tax credit availability pushed me to buy a M3P in June. Both of my concerns actually came to reality. Completely happy with my decision.
  33. Tha_Ape

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Problem: Need to lower cost of production. Solution: reduce number of parts. Now if something breaks, whether it be the horn, the blinkers, the pleather starts peeling, etc, the answer is "replace the steering wheel". ‐-------- People can obviously adjust, especially if you drive it every...

    Satonic Soft Close Frunk

The frunk is only supposed to open if there is no power to the car and you connect a 9V. Its not like you can walk up to a healthy car, connect a battery and pop the frunk. It needs to be having issues.
  35. Tha_Ape

    Satonic Soft Close Frunk

People seriously need to read owners manuals. That particular section could literally save you or a loved ones life. Plus the Tesla owners manual is comically short compared to other cars. My Prius had a 600pg manual.

    Satonic Soft Close Frunk

The soft close portion (same on auto frunks) is what pulls the hood down the last inch. If that motor freezes up, i don't think you can release the frunk. All auto frunks have manual releases for that reason and the only difference from them and "soft close only" are the powered struts and...

    Satonic Soft Close Frunk

I'm interested, but definitely want some redundancy (like a cable) to release the frunk. That said, I'm not sure I want to pay an additional $100 for a cable which is what the reputable sites charge for soft close ($200 total).

I had a lot of wind noise coming from my drivers side window..... the tech said just give it a few months for the seals to set in. I did, no change. Model Y 2024 new range estimates

When I speak of reality, I'm talking about the independent tests "everyone" does They consistently show tesla slightly optimistic and Porsche heavily pessimistic on range. I'm not arguing what they base it off of (it is what it is and tests can be gamed), I'm arguing real world...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

I've had the car for over 2 years, I'm well aware of battery deg. and have plenty of posts about it. My comment is more about revising the range numbers to something more in line with reality. Teslas range numbers have always been optimistic. It's better to under promise and over deliver...

I'm just glad the specs are getting more in line with reality. I was at a SC and it asked me to charge to 100% (no lie) for the final leg of my trip. I only went to 99%, but 100% predicted 310mi ('21 MYLR), which is probably fair in ideal conditions

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

That's exactly it... I've driven a few cars from the 50s/60s (made well before I was born). People give you less grief if you drive them slow. My friend has a 67 vette that I'd shuttle around to car shows for him (he'd drive another old car he has). No one cares if you go 55 in that...
