Non lumbar switches still have the microswitches for a lumbar control

If for some reason you need to replace the power seat switch assembly for a seat with lumbar installed, you can use any switch for a model 3/y even if it has the blank plate. They all have the microswitches to control lumbar, just move the button from your old assembly to your new one.

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

Removing lumbar is very easy, you do not need to replace the seat. The seats without lumbar still have the lumbar frame, they just have the pump and inflatable cushions removed. It is interesting that you notice a difference between full deflate on lumbar and 'no lumbar' on the passenger side as...

FS: Hansshow Model 3/Y Rear Climate & Music Control Screen

Mostly true except there is a dedicated rear blower you can turn on and off, it also turns on automatically when there are occupants in the rear seats.

Some notes on retrofitting Homelink to a 2023 Model 3 (likely for any 2021+ with heat pump)

I've seen pics of techs putting it here now. Where the capped off cable is suggests that this is the new 'official' location. Model Y has it behind the left fender. Another report that suggests this is the way the rangers do it now

Some notes on retrofitting Homelink to a 2023 Model 3 (likely for any 2021+ with heat pump)

yeah I wanted to pay $100, not $300. Hence the DIY. Also, it was so easy, took me 20 minutes going slowly. Now I can probably do it in 10.

Some notes on retrofitting Homelink to a 2023 Model 3 (likely for any 2021+ with heat pump)

All you need is the Homelink module, but try to find one on ebay that includes the plastic bracket and e-torx bolt. If you don't have the bolt any M6x1.0 by 25mm bolt will do. 1. Remove shroud covering the washer fluid and brake reservoir, just lift up around edges. Remove trim around latch...

Why do V4 SC and Chargepoint NACS plugs have these odd gaps?

I don't know of any car that won't support lower voltage DCFC, but I could imagine something like Semi just being incompatible with V3. It might not have anything to do with voltage, but if I were to design a plug that is backward compatible but provides a cheap mechanical way to restrict future...

Why do V4 SC and Chargepoint NACS plugs have these odd gaps?

In theory it would also allow for cars that were V4 compatible only because you could mechanically block the V3 plugs from connecting in a way that the V4 can connect to. I imagine tesla semi can only charge on v4, for instance. Mechanically keying the receiver to make sure incompatible cars...

    Samsung Z Flip 3

If anyone is in the bay area, I am too busy/lazy to mail these out but happy to print as need for pickup in Palo Alto. (I also designed the spacer so I can make tweaks if anyone wants)

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

Tesla relentlessly reduces build variations to control cost (to great effect, I used to work on this problem at a big automaker and you'd be shocked at how much complexity and cost variants add) so it would actually be cheaper to make USS installed on every car, even if gated behind an...

In a AWD Tesla Model 3, why is the front and back motor different?

Yes. I made a dashboard to monitor motor utilization in real time and the dual motor 3/Y are mostly RWD unless they need a little extra. They are never purely FWD. Another fun fact is that regen from high speeds is generally rear only but from low speeds you will see it from the front.

Finished MY brake upgrade - Performance rear + stock LR front

You spammed three threads with your question and it was an easy one to answer. Many people have done this, the only difference is the short harness from the car to the brakes...

Going crazy about Performance brakes? [Tesla using caliper covers on rear brakes of Y performance after supplier switch]

Front calipers have a different part number on the Y between LR and P due to color but they are identical in every respect. At this point enough MYPs have been wrecked you can just get "real" performance calipers on ebay and bolt them in (and bleed them plz). Rear OEM caliper covers and you can...

Going crazy about Performance brakes? [Tesla using caliper covers on rear brakes of Y performance after supplier switch]

I have a 2023 M3P as well. M3P still has an upgraded braking system relative to the LR. Larger diameter and 'dual cast' which means steel hats with iron rings, press fit together, hence the pie plate appearance of the rotor hats. Lower mass than all iron for just a bit more cost. Still has the...

Going crazy about Performance brakes? [Tesla using caliper covers on rear brakes of Y performance after supplier switch]

The braking systems are now 100% identical except for color and rear covers now I think. Just get the covers if you care, nobody will see the gray caliper underneath.

Additional differences between M-y and M-3

We have a 3P and a 7 seat Y and we use the third row all the time- our kids are 8 an 5 and normal sized, we are short (I am 5'7") but with the middle row slid up there is plenty of room to toss grandparents in the middle and kids in the back on boosters, and they do not come near the glass. It's...

Additional differences between M-y and M-3

All Model 3s have the camera array above the mirror. If your car has a front facing bumper cam, it is not factory. The only way I can make sense of this is that you meant 'front face radar'. which is moot unless you've disabled software updates as all cars use vision based AP and FSD now...

Going crazy about Performance brakes? [Tesla using caliper covers on rear brakes of Y performance after supplier switch]

You are right in the sense that M3P rotors in front are thicker. Rears are the same thickness. They are also different in that M3P has bimetal rotors, which have a steel hat (thinner than iron would be, therefore lighter) that is pressed into an iron ring. The interface is the pie plate...

Going crazy about Performance brakes? [Tesla using caliper covers on rear brakes of Y performance after supplier switch]

Yeah it's high school physics, sliding friction (mu) is less than static friction. Part and parcel of maintaining directional control is maintaining grip on the surface. The only time where ABS might not help is in deep snow. ABS threshold brakes for you, every pro race driver would take ABS if...

Going crazy about Performance brakes? [Tesla using caliper covers on rear brakes of Y performance after supplier switch]

In the case of 'panic braking' the wilwoods make zero difference. Tires are the limiting factor. Larger brake systems do not shorten brake distance for one off panic stops, they reduce brake fade for heavy usage, like on track. They might feel different but with any modern-ish system, like on...

new long range model Y with very low EPA range

So to be clear, the EPA range is a rating that the US government provides and represents the theoretical range for a fully charged car in a a test involving city and highway cycles. Real world range can very quite a bit. The display is not based on EPA range- it is based on a variety of factors...

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

That's just AP. Both of my cars have the 'garage semi truck' that appears when the refrigerator comes into view. The line squiggles are to be expected because it's neural net based, the vectors fall through and bounce off each layer until you get an output. Slightly different input gets slightly...

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

Latest 2023.12.x update made vision parking startup much faster. Since I own both a USS and Vision car, I can now say I prefer vision parking. Curbs can be a little dicey but USS never saw them anyway. For parallel parking, the vision occupancy grid makes it much easier to square up with the curb.

Model X price cuts- yet again

One fix is to drag the camera button to your dock, the blind spot cameras do an ok job of showing curb distance, but definitely not inline with what you should expect on a car this expensive.

Blind Spot Warning Light Possible With Vision?

I made one of the third party displays- even if you wanted to have continuous BSM alerts you can't use the canbus signal as it's only active when the turn signal is on. I use USS to show the sort of 'light in the mirror' indicators for driving around, but obviously won't work on cars without USS.

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

I think your definition of warranty is overly broad. If Apple removes a feature in iOS, it doesn't count as "defects in materials or workmanship" which is the tight language used in virtually all warranties. Other car manufacturers do not do OTA or barely do it (friend with Taycan's OTA was 3...

Leaving Phone in Car while at work

There are also NFC rings you can wear that work as a Tesla key, so you can wear the ring (mine is my everyday wedding band) and have easy access to your car despite not having phone key access. You will absolutely want to turn off bluetooth (that should be sufficient to disable phone key) or...

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

Probably worth explaining why- rollouts are staged so that you have time to check on devices 'in the wild' to see if they're exhibiting any unexpected behavior related to the new software you pushed out. As confidence increases, the % of devices included in each subsequent rollout increases as...

No holes parking sensors for USS-less MY

I don't know what the laws are like in the UK, but in the US the onus is on the manufacturer to prove that your modification damaged a part, and the warranty can only be rescinded for parts that are affected by your modification. Given the number of heavily modified teslas I see that do far more...

Does the stock suspension have adjustable camber top mounts when lowering?

Also, minor correction, there's no such thing as a camber plate for a double wishbone front suspension, you're talking about macpherson struts (which most other cars have) which can be adjusted with camber plates on the top hat of the strut. Since the coilover assembly in a Tesla is just a...

    Y’all Spoiled: My pickup story

I did pickup at the Fremont factory and didn't even talk to a human. Took an Uber to Fremont and got dropped off in a vast parking lot of new Teslas. Just opened the Tesla app, had to agree to some things to transfer ownership in the app, car was on map in sea of identical looking cars, I...

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

A lot of the articles bury the lede a bit- with an occupancy grid you will get 360 degree coverage with some inference on what the cameras can't see (if it can see the obstacle while approaching, it can in theory maintain awareness of that obstacle even if obscured). USS sensors do not have...

Question about the Apple car play for Tesla

They all work through the browser, and I find it to be more trouble than it's worth. You have to connect your tesla to the wifi hotspot of this device and then open a browser to load carplay in it. Audio works, steering wheel controls do not unless you also connect your car to it via bluetooth...

    BMW folks comments on Tesla

I think I would define luxury as the absence of worry or stress- that is what rich people spend money on, to make problems go away. Therefore, features like phone key climate control on as soon as the door opens and kids enter the car watching theater apps on the main display while killing time...

2023 Model Y no USS discussion, incl. Discussion of Tesla Vision Firmware

2023 Model Y no USS discussion, incl. Discussion of Tesla Vision Firmware

I also have a 2023 and want parking sensors, but meaningfully, that EX90 is almost twice the money of my 3, especially after the dealer jacks up prices in my neck of the woods, with no real delivery date. I impulse bought my Tesla and it was in my garage in days, and it cost what the website...

Model Y has a aluminum traction arm on the rear suspension (3 and old Y has stamped and folded steel)

Model Y has a aluminum traction arm on the rear suspension (3 and old Y has stamped and folded steel)

I think only the GT2/3/4 have the heim joints- I had a 991 Turbo S and the car definitely had bushings.

That makes a lot of sense since the gigacasting is only on the Y and that looks nearly impossible to repair.

Model Y has a aluminum traction arm on the rear suspension (3 and old Y has stamped and folded steel)

Good to know- obviously I’m not claiming these are anywhere near the cyber arms. What are your thoughts on NVH with heim joints for a street driven car?
  44. O

Model Y has a aluminum traction arm on the rear suspension (3 and old Y has stamped and folded steel)

I’d almost agree with you except the stamped/welded part is still in production for all 3s. The witness marks on the aluminum parts also suggest some machining after leaving the tool, so I’m still unconvinced it’s for cost reduction. If what you said is true, then aluminum suspension components...

Model Y has a aluminum traction arm on the rear suspension (3 and old Y has stamped and folded steel)

Looks like enough Ys are dismantled that you can get these pretty cheaply on ebay now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185789134912 Should be dimensionally identical between 3 and Y, I assume the change is for strength and corrosion resistance.

    Has the M3P ruined me?

I'm ok with not having ICE cars available to me personally. As I said, they are fun but I understand why they're likely to die out long term. Hopefully by then there will be used options (in 2020, there were some great deals on used EVs before everything shot up) and new options so that people...

Respectfully I disagree. Don't yuck my yum. You'll be happier when you stop doing that, because it will make you easier to be around.
