Powerwalls not charging to 100% when Storm Watch is triggered?

Storm Watch happened twice this past winter season (one happening currently) and I noticed in both cases the Powerwalls' SOC maxes out at 99% instead of 100%. On non-StormWatch days the Powerwalls correctly charge to 100% from solar. Is there a reason for that or just a glitch with the system?

    New tires before lease end

My MY lease ends in 8 months and I have 25k miles on it so far. At 20k miles I visited the service center for an unrelated matter and they did a tire inspection that showed 6/32 tread and specifically noted no need for new tires at the time. I've read somewhere that Tesla may charge me for new...

    Solar Roof vs. Panels

I feel it's become impossible to justify getting a solar roof based on pricing, and I think Tesla will likely shift focus to new housing developments. In 2021, I got a 7.2kw solar roof with 2 powerwalls for $20k (after tax credit and rebate) and felt the <10 year implied pay back was decent...

Daily reset/shutdown of my Powerwall+ and/or Inverter after coolant top-off?

Same here. Mind boggling how Tesla can't get this right, but at the same time it has minimal impact on production, so best to just ignore for my mental health.

Daily reset/shutdown of my Powerwall+ and/or Inverter after coolant top-off?

It was probably programmed incorrectly. At some point I stopped obsessing over it and then it just got automatically fixed. I'm sure it will get fixed this time as well and really not a material loss in production. Didn't happen to me this morning so maybe it already got fixed.

Daily reset/shutdown of my Powerwall+ and/or Inverter after coolant top-off?

I think it's a bug. The timing seems to be set to when the system does a software upgrade. I completely forgot about this for several months until the latest software update made it happen again, around 7am like others are seeing.

    Some Positive Feedback

Sorry to be a party pooper but I think the negative experience with Tesla is generally around its horrendous customer service and communication, not the quality of the product. in any case, good luck!

    Small bugs following firmware update?

The opposite for me -- app shows I have panels when I have the roof in reality. In my case, it's unrelated to firmware updates as this happened a couple a months ago after a service visit. Not going to bother contacting customer service given how incompetent they are. If it ain't broke...

Brand new model Y doors wont close due to window glass issue

This is a known issue and I had the same problem. Something to do with the light that's installed on the back door that shorts the circuit. I had a remote service visit and the tech new exactly what was wrong right away. Took 2 minutes to replace the light and it was fixed. Would just keep the...

Am I able to get Powerwall?

It's a bit odd that your meter and main panel are in different places. I have almost everything (solar, inverter/powerwalls) installed on a detached garage but then it's wired back to the main home/panel where I have the gateway and meter, through an underground conduit. That said, I'm sure an...

Why is solar going back to the grid instead of charging powerwall?

If this is happening in self-powered mode, I had the same problem, plus at times solar was getting capped at home usage with all excess generation just going to waste (not charging batteries or going back to grid). I was stuck in tier-2 customer service hell for several months but eventually an...

Good luck. Resetting did nothing for my system.

Exporting to grid when Powerwalls not fully charged

There were all sorts of other issues with my system so Tesla eventually sent techs over and everything got fixed a few weeks ago. Was just told that they had to "switch out a few things" but never got clarity on what those "things" were.

Midwest Snow w Solar Panels and Cold w Powerwall

I'm in the hudson valley, a bit south east from where you are. When we installed our system last summer, Tesla said I was their first solar roof project in the county. There is an authorized local solar roof installer (SunCommon) so they probably did some installs in the area but their pricing...

Midwest Snow w Solar Panels and Cold w Powerwall

I'm in NY where winter weather conditions are also pretty terrible. I have the solar roof (not panels) and snow seems to just slide off automatically, which is a huge plus. If you need a new roof, might want to consider the solar roof so you won't have to deal with snow obstructing solar...

Powerwall charge rate materially impacted by temperature?

Today was absolutely frigid (teens to low 20s all day) and the Powerwalls didn't charge at all. From what you all are saying, that's likely normal behavior. Honestly I don't mind that as long as these low temps aren't actually causing damage to the Powerwalls. There are probaby only 30 days...

Powerwall charge rate materially impacted by temperature?

That's good to know. Unfortunately ours had to be installed outside the garage (on the northside, and completely shaded, so probably even colder) because of regulations that would have forced us to re-sheetrock the entire garage if we were to install them indoors.

Powerwall charge rate materially impacted by temperature?

I had a few issues that were stuck in tier-2 hell for several months that finally got resolved with a service visit yesterday. But 1 issue still seems to persist. It looks like the Powerwall charge rate is capped, and the rate that it's capped at seems to fluctuate during the day. As an...

Why didn't Stormwatch activate in NY?

We got quite a bit of snow in NY Hudson Valley. Not quite a foot but enough that I had to have someone plow my driveway to get out. I am sure many homes in the Catskills just a few mile away (same town and zipcode) lost power, as they often do. How come Stormwatch didn't activate? In fact...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Also in NY. My guess is the same NY interconnection team at Tesla works on your case. My installation was July 2021 and PTO was December 2021 (so ~150 days). Dealing with Tesla during the five months till PTO was very painful to say the least, and I considered legal action. If you haven't...

Solar + 2x PWs; what's my ideal setting?

Thanks. I guess my goal is to maximize cost savings in Self-Powered mode (constant pricing, so no need to load shift). In that case fair to say that 100pct reserve would be the way to go given the 10pct efficiency loss in charging/discharging the batteries? Unless selling into the grid has...

Solar + 2x PWs; what's my ideal setting?

Don't think my system produces enough during the winter to make TBS effectively save me money, so I have my system on Self-Powered mode. Trying to figure out what my battery reserve level should be. Think I've read somewhere on this forum that the process of charging and discharging the the...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Installation and inspection completed July 16. PTO granted December 8. Countless phone calls/emails with Tesla during that time. Complaint submitted to FTC and NY state AG in September -- think this does help. Considered suing them. They also owe me $400 referral bonus and $2000 from the...

Max PowerWall Charge when below Backup Reserve

Upon re-reading the original post, you're right that I'm describing a different issue. Apologies for the confusion. Still trying to get Tesla to address my problem.

Max PowerWall Charge when below Backup Reserve

I'm not sure this is the behavior we're describing. Take a look at this screenshot (first pic) of my system this morning. I'm in self-powered mode, which means any excess solar should be used to charge the Powerwalls to 100pct before exporting to the grid. But you see that at 84pct Powerwall...

Max PowerWall Charge when below Backup Reserve

If you haven't already, I suggest reporting to Tesla customer service and get a case number assigned. Customer service at this company is pretty terrible in general and most people on the other end of the line are completely incompetent. But, if enough customers report the same issue, I do think...

Damage to PW When Fully Drained?

Customer service told me that if Powerwalls fully drain, it would require a technician to visit to jump-start the batteries, similar to how you would with car batteries. They said this isn't ideal for the longevity of the Powerwalls.

Max PowerWall Charge when below Backup Reserve

I posted about the same issue here earlier in the month. I don't believe this has anything to do with the TOU settings as I have the same problem in self-powered mode. I'm currently stuck in tier-2 customer service hell. They did push firmware 21.39.1 7759c368 this morning so they and I will be...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

I think the payment schedule you had makes a lot more sense -- basically installments after certain milestones, with final payment only after PTO. From my experience, that's how payments to contractors generally work for home construction projects -- final payment is made at the time the project...

Exporting to grid when Powerwalls not fully charged

Yup thanks. Seems like it's back to normal now so was only like that for few hours today. Nevertheless I called Tesla to investigate. Said they'll get back to me in ~10 days.

Exporting to grid when Powerwalls not fully charged

2 Powerwalls. Right now solar production is about 4KW, of that 2.5KW is going to Powerwalls to recharge (Powerwalls currently at 73% charge), 1KW exported to grid, and 0.5KW used by home. I didn't know there was a limit on Powerwall recharge rate, but I'm sure it's much higher than 2.5KW. I've...

Exporting to grid when Powerwalls not fully charged

I'm noticing something weird today. My Powerwalls are at 69% charge but there is considerable amount of solar production being exported to the grid instead of all of the excess going to the Powerwalls to recharge. Seems to be happening pretty consistently throughout the day. Anyone have the same...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

You're experience is very common. I'd start off by filing a complaint with your state AG. Many on here (including myself) have done that and saw varying degrees of success/progress. Then call/email Tesla everyday like a maniac -- that also seems to have varying degrees of success.

System automatically capping production prior to PTO?

Got it thanks. My system should definitely qualify then. I have a solar roof, not panels, but assume that wouldn't matter. How do I verify that this functionality is actually enabled? Is it simply through the observation of my solar production when the Powerwalls get to 100 pct?

System automatically capping production prior to PTO?

Hi all -- I've been reading in various recent posts about the system capping production to prevent selling power into the grid prior to PTO. Instead of hijacking an existing thread, decided to start a new one. How do you know this is the case? Do you see solar production automatically get...
  38. S

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Yes, hence my belief that legal action is the only way to resolve Tesla's criminal practices. There is basically zero incentive for Tesla to help the customer get PTO, as they have already received full payment from the customer and there is zero consequence for them if the customer doesn't get...

    A Bit Shady?

Curious who has this "non-exporting" config. Mine was installed in mid July and still awaiting PTO, and it's definitely exporting excess power to the grid. So I have to be careful if I leave it on. Everyone from Tesla (with the exception of installers) tell me to keep the system off till PTO.

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

I'm in NY Hudson Valley. Central Hudson is my utility. We're all in a similar situation. (877) 701-7652 gets you to a random advisor, but I guarantee you they won't be helpful and will just anger you more. Did you submit a complaint with the NY state AG? You can use their online complaint...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

IMO, the root of the issue with delayed PTO is that full payment is required prior to PTO application submission. With cash in their pockets, there is zero incentive for them to work on PTO (or anything else for that matter). I'm no legal expert, but there must be some sort of law or regulation...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Looks like everyone experiences something similar. They should fire all the project advisors since they actually don't do anything. They're there to log customer questions and complaints but the role isn't designed to actually solve anything so nothing gets done, and makes the role useless. Did...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Yes, totally incompetent idiots. Also, borderline criminal business practices -- for instance, makes absolutely no sense to force the customer to make payment prior to PTO. The problem in my case is that the utility put a 1-month deadline to resubmit and it's already been 2 weeks with no progress.
  44. S

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

My utility co rejected Tesla's PTO app 13 days ago due to missing/wrong info submitted. As of today, Tesla still hasn't submitted the corrections. I've called the project advisors several times but there has been zero progress. How long does Tesla usually take to resubmit the PTO application...

How to turn off the solar panels/electricity to the house?

I got a Solar Roof system with 2 Powerwalls (one of which is a Plus) installed this past summer and am awaiting PTO in NY. I've gotten mixed messaging from both Tesla and members of this forum on what to do with the system before PTO. If I were to turn off the system, I was initially told by...

7.1kw system produce 4kw per hour

I'm 100 mi north of NYC in the Hudson Valley. Installed 7.1 kw solar roof system (not panels) + 2x Powerwalls in mid July. Layout is 50% north, 50% south with no obstructions. Peak daily production has been slightly over 40 kwh with peak instantaneous output of ~5 kw on that day. I've reached...

I’m new! And having issues with Tesla customer support.

If I understand correctly, what you already paid for included the extra $1000 conduit charge but they sent a new agreement adding another $1000 charge on top of that? Regardless, I would not sign anything until your advisor clears things up. Would also contact the installer(s) as they're...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Interestingly, a day after filing a complaint with the FTC and NY AG, my utility co just sent over a contract for distributed energy interconnection, which I assume means that Tesla finally submitted the PTO application. I think the FTC complaint is more for local law enforcement record keeping...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

I had that concern initially, but the Tesla installers noted that my current meter runs backwards correctly and I've tested it to confirm, so it's already a net-metering meter. With PTO, I've been told that my utility company will switch to a digital smart meter, but that has more to do with...
