Detailing (shops & mobile) in Mont Co, Md: who ya got?

All of the threads on detailing services in this region seem a bit dated. The providers we see here frequently (I'm a customer and fan of TLC in Chantilly, VA) are too far away for cleaning. I'm in search of a quality detailing shop for interior/exterior cleaning of my Tesla S & 3. I'm not...

    Supercharger - National Harbor, MD

It had been a while since I was through this part of the community so it was time to be reminded what a shitty experience visiting National Harbor can be. It did not disappoint. There is no access from the south (I was driving up from La Plata) and all traffic is dumped into one pattern coming...

    S/3 Comparo -- Driven Back-to-Back-to-Back

As the owner of a S70D and the new M3ER I have spent the past month going back & forth between the cars and I reached a similar conclusion, I would perhaps phrase it a bit differently. I think the S is the better car, but the 3 is by FAR the better value. As a personal finance guy I tend to...

    Supercharger - Gaithersburg, MD

Pricing question: The Tesla web site says all Superchargers in Maryland will charge $0.16 per kWh. I pulled in to Gaithersburg and charged my Model 3 last week and was charged $0.20 per kWh. Other Superchargers I have visited in Maryland have charged the $0.16 rate, but not this one. Does...

The Resurrection of the Montgomery Mall (Bethesda) Supercharger

Reported yesterday: Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row: Tesla Supercharger stations to be constructed at Westfield Montgomery Mall (Photos) TWO Supercharger areas in Montgomery Mall: one by Nordstrom and one by the Arc Light cinemas (basically on opposite sides of the complex). The former Supercharger...

Recent Model 3 sightings in DC area?

So how would anyone recommend I find one I can go see? Like a lot of us I just received my invite to configure my Model 3 order. My problem is that I can't (at least, not yet) bring myself to push the button on a $50k car that I have not even seen. Not much chance of me being in or around...

    East Coast timing

Received my invite by email yesterday. Model S owner in Maryland since 6/2015 and made online reservation on day one. Now I just have to find a car to go see. I can't bring myself to drop 50 large on a car I have not even seen in the flesh.

    Supercharger - Gaithersburg, MD

It may be the saddest, most pathetic sight I've ever seen since I got my Model S: twelve pristine Superchargers 3 miles from my home sitting vacant, unused, powerless. C'mon guys! Get it together and flip the switch!!

Waylaid in Oahu: places to stay/things to do

Aloha, thanks to the blizzard hitting Maryland back home our ten day trip to the windward side of Oahu will now be a 12 day trip. Looking for any/all recommendations from our local Tesla friends on interesting places to stay or things to do until our flight leaves Monday at 5pm. I know this is...

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

Through Nov 30, 2015: 9,454 miles driven, 2695 kWh of energy (285Wh/mile overall) on my 70D. Just did first long trip in the (relative) cold of Ohio-Maryland over the holiday and saw avg energy use up ~10%.

Any regrets ordering 70D vs 85D?

For some reason I remembered this post yesterday as I drove to Hershey, PA and back for the day in my 70D. 112 miles each way, and Hershey's Chocolate World has two chargers that are free. I started the day at 100% in range mode and was at 54% when I arrived at my destination, so that's...

    Porsche Mission E

This is awesome news. On one level any time EVs make inroads in the ICE community that's a step in the right direction. On another level if Tesla is to continue to develop and market world-changing technology they need someone outside Fremont to push them. Why do we have an iPhone 6s now...

New Owners: What was your last car? How much more was the MS than that car?

At the end of 2013 I bought a 2014 Audi A6 TDI all-in for $58k believing I was much farther away from my Tesla purchase than it turned out. All-in for my 70D (net of taxes) was $85k, so $27k up-sale. Worth every penny.

Supercharger - Bethesda, MD (Permanently Closed, Oct 2016)

The parking area between Balducci's and the doctors building rarely fills completely. Six spots in that back corner doesn't sound like too much of an 'ask' to me.

Am I going to regret leaving off the air suspension option?

Reading this thread reminded me of an argument I had with co-workers (some from the west, some from the east) about the merits of In-N-Out burgers vs. Five Guys. The west coast guys were loyal to INO and the east coasters to FG: classic confirmation bias. I went with the coils because no one...

Supercharger - Bethesda, MD (Permanently Closed, Oct 2016)

My office is in the neighborhood of the Bethesda supercharger at Montgomery Mall. In addition to the mall we have several smaller strip centers with relatively easy access to I-270 and I-495. If you know the area I think the Wildwood shopping center on Old Georgetown at Democracy would be the...

Slightly different take on the 70D vs. 85D debate

I think you're on the right track here. While certainly an expense and not an investment, as measured by TCO the Tesla has to be evaluated over its total life expectancy. I tend to hold my cars a long time (I bought a Honda Accord new in 1992 and drove it for nine years and 180k before a crash...

    Question about alcantera on dash

Only 3k into my ownership experience but I'm really liking the black alcantara interior I got with my premium package. The handful of people who have ridden in the car all reacted well to it and I think it's cool (of course, my vote is the only one that counts). All that matters is what speaks...

Panoramic Roof - No Sun Shade Needed?

Got my first taste of this yesterday, as Wash DC had its first sunny high-90s kinda day since I got my car. Went to the Nats and the car was parked in direct sunlight from 1pm to 5pm. For the drive down and back the car was very comfortable and the AC handled everything. I checked my iphone...

Drivers who can't discern between safe following distance and going slowly

I am not even one month into my Tesla driving experience and see people cut in front of me every day (without exception, no joke) while driving with the TACC engaged in traffic. As I age, I am trying to do a better job in deciding what to worry about and what to ignore, and I think this fits...

    Supercharger - West Hartford, CT

All valid points that thankfully did not affect me (this time). Middle of the day, center was relatively quiet. I did not find the on/off the highway difficult at all, but of course YMMV. As for Auburn: I cannot eat or drink a historic train station, so I'm still giving W Hartford the nod on...

    Supercharger - West Hartford, CT

Stopped in both coming and going on my 1300 mile road trip (DC to Portland, ME) last weekend and this was by far my favorite SC spot: plenty of spaces, fast charge, and everything I could possibly need (hello Chipotle!!) within a safe, easy walk from the car. What's not to love? If every SC...

    Supercharger - Auburn MA

Sketchy would be an upgrade. Came through long enough to take a stroll around the most depressing mall I have seen, perhaps ever. Would be a good location to shoot an episode of "Walking Dead" but that's about it. Went back to my car and left. Free charging is a really great thing!

Supercharger - Bethesda, MD (Permanently Closed, Oct 2016)

I made my maiden voyage to use this supercharger yesterday, and was happy to report (1) spot available at 1pm and (2) charge time correlates very nicely to requisite time to walk to the Chipotle, enjoy a burrito bowl, then walk back to the car. iPhone app makes it too damn easy to know exactly...

    I love my American-made car!

The automotive industry in 2015 is a truly global enterprise. The companies we think of as 'American' (Ford, GM) build many vehicles outside the US while 'foreign' (Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes etc) build many vehicles in the US. A big chunk of the Tesla (the battery) is foreign, at least...

    10 year cost of ownership

I am more than a little surprised to see members here repeating the myth that gas taxes are what pays for American roads. They pay but a fraction of the cost of building/repairing our roadways and other auto-dominated infrastructure. As was noted earlier the gas tax has not been raised in a...

    50,000 Mile Club

DavidB: I'd say you've gotten a lot more than your $$ worth out of those tires. The rest of the items sound more like manufacturing defects than maintenance items in that none of those items should fail within 50k miles. Did you really need winter tires here in our relatively mild Maryland...

Anyone NOT buying the extended warranty?

Model S Body Refresh Coming in Sept/Oct?

I have driven them both, and ended up switching my order from an 85D to the 70D once I did that. My performance needs/interests are not as intense as many who are attracted to the MS. I am merely looking for the world's coolest/best/most comfortable daily driver. The 70D covers that nicely...

    Model S Insurance

I don't know about that, but USAA just quoted me $965 for 6 months (driving 15k per year, suburban Maryland outside DC) on a 70D which will be about a $165 increase over what I am paying now for a 2014 Audi A6 TDI. Seems within the realm of reason to me.

Pretty Cool video from Bosch - Automated Driving in a MS

Automated driving will have as big an impact on the 21st century as cars did on the 20th. We have about 70 years of urban planning about to be made obsolete (over 20-30 years) as autonomous cars will reduce the number of cars in use and the space needed for roads and parking. I'm 47 now and up...

Automobile Magazine.... big wheels and it's affect on ride quality

Even 18" wheels have their issues. My Audi A6 TDI hit one of the man-eater pot holes we grow in metro DC (thanks Arlington County VA taxpayers for leaving these murder-holes in the roads) and there is little margin for error. Tire replaced and wheel has just enough of a flat spot in it that I...

David Crosby runs over jogger in Model S

David Crosby runs over jogger in Model S

If you need headphones to run, you're doing it wrong. Seriously. Running since 1996; I've run up to 10 hours (not a typo, 50 mile trail race) without anything in my ears and you will be fine. You may even find you like it better: you are much more in touch with the surroundings and everything...

What's better? Swap every three years or keep for the long-term?

The expected life span of the battery and drive system of an EV is how I decided to wait for the dual-motor MS and buy new. I tend to hold my vehicles for a long time and what distinguishes the MS from its high-priced brethren is the pleasure of driving / total cost of ownership equation over a...

WRIT: Washington Real estate Investment Trust 1320 Braddock Pl Alexandria Va 22314

I rented a cheap office from them back in the day (1990s) in Rockville. Thought at the time they were pretty typical for slum lords. Stunned when I went back to my old building and saw they had renovated the interior, as I figured they only did that once every 40 years or so (whether the...
