Yea pretty much just buy the motor and swap it. I did mine when it was problematic and it solved all problems.

I was being a bit sarcastic as the poster I quoted said the parking brake didn’t have a piston when in fact it does. The rubber that surrounds it on a spare set that I have looks worn and I’d like to see if I can replace it. No luck finding parts or a shop that knows how to do this yet.

I suspect the housing of the electric motor exterior is plastic and the caliper itself is likely iron. Aside from the frame/panels of the car, I think most is iron, steel plastic in that general area.

What is the big metal piston that gets mechanically pushed out? I was looking to replace the seal and rubber around it if possible.

I’m having the same issue, I’ll be manually releasing it and replacing the electric motor on the back. This is the second time this has failed and despite the recall Tesla won’t replace mine saying it’s two days outside of the manufacturing known defect.

I suppose you could, I mean its happening where the o-ring is based on what I can tell.

It's sad that we all have had this happen after a firmware update. So disappointed in Tesla for this.

Ya the one that came with my car was the HD one, which is supposed to be higher quality. I didn't notice much of a difference to be honest... Let me/us know how the MCU2 upgrade goes. Ultimately I don't think you have the camera issue many of us have had right?

@Ching38 My recommendation is not to at this point. It’s really not that much better. And is possibly problematic with mcu1

Check this thread, I think this person @Ludris swapped to mcu2 and it fixed his problem Rear camera/MCU1 issue since V11 I’m so livid if this is true because I spent far to many hours researching and being told by Tesla it was the camera. I replaced it with a cheaper version too

Yup, I bought a new camera on ebay and installed it. Works great now.

I plan to keep my current Parking brakes after I pull them off and just buy the solenoid, pins and bracket to restore them.

Tesla price was over $500. So definitely not a good deal. I bought one of the older cameras on ebay to have something. I'll try and repair my current one once I pull it out.

I recently noticed this noise too on my 2016 Model S.

The cameras are insanely priced now. Precovid HD camera was $40 to $70 on ebay. Now they're a minimum $350. You'll find posts on this forum of pre covid prices people paid, its unreal the difference. Anyway, time for me to buy one... :(

I'm curious about this too. I ended up using a 12v adapter that supplies up to 100 watts, of course I'd rather not have it and use built in usb but they can't charge fast enough.

Yea I’ve noticed one or two spots available when it says 0. In reference to my Etobicoke Charging location. It use to be better, the other day I got 29kw and previous visits I max out at 60kw. Previous chargers were always 70kw

Mcu1 and after the camera upgrade my rear camera won’t work. Also 0 benefit to the camera upgrade without mcu2 I wasn’t aware of that, wouldn’t have done it if I knew that.

If it works out for you I might pay for the upgrade, might also just wait till summer to take the rear camera out to see if I notice any moisture in mine

Crazy, mine is sometimes working. I've been reading people suggesting it could just be related to corrosion on the connector. I might try cleaning it to see if it helps. Gonna have to find the time though. Thanks @radiohead7778

Any resolution on this? I can't charge my 2016 Model S at a super charger as a result.
