Yeah, it is unfortunately. Its a vignette around the edges of the instrument cluster display to dull the edges of the display in low lighting conditions. Its odd that they would put valuable instrument cluster elements behind the vignette - maybe thats something that address with OTA software...

Good news is I got my alignment fixed by the awesome SC folks in Berkeley. Better news is they didn't charge me for it. They gave me the alignment report and holy hell were the before measurements a mess. Car has 1600 miles on it. Suspicion is the misalignment came when the wheels were removed...

argh im pretty sure my wheel alignment is off. The yoke kinda favors to the right on straight/flat roads. About 1500 miles on the car. SC estimates $280 to fix alignment.

Maybe I'm the outlier but I dont feel like I'm missing out on the tilting screen. Even if I did have it, It would likely be in the neutral position most of the time anyways for ease of use by both the driver and passenger.

Yep this is the vignette on the instrument cluster screen - meant to hide the edge of the screen so it blends seamlessly into the rest of the instrument cluster without a hard line where the screen ends.

ah right - have heard the Plaids ship with the plaid graphic badge, not the "Plaid" lettering. Jumped the gun thinking this was a Plaid.

Is it normal for vehicles to ship without badges? Is that something applied at SCs prior to delivery?

My software has updated once since delivery on 2/7, and is currently on 2021.43.201 with advanced update on. Seems like theres still some work being done on the new Model X versions of the latest software.

Honestly this looks pretty good - nothing a SC visit couldn't fix if you felt it was necessary.
