    Cybertruck is a scam.

I’ve asked this before? Is the accelerator perfectly functional without the cover? If so, that makes delays in getting a new/revised cover less than trivial. Anyone here actually driven theirs that way?

Do I have to buy and carry extra charger in the car for long trips?

Welder in one case. Unsure of the other. Both outlets pretty conveniently mounted in the garage.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thank you. I have some reading to do - the audio was much better but I still do better with the printed word.

Do I have to buy and carry extra charger in the car for long trips?

I may be repeating myself, but when road tripping I think the best bailout adapter is the 14-50. If unusual circumstances arrive and there’s no Supercharger or other charging option within reasonable range, just type “campground” into navigation, navigate there and offer the manager a small but...

Do I have to buy and carry extra charger in the car for long trips?

I’d hope they have a Battery Management System that takes them offline below a certain voltage to protect them from the damage a total discharge does. But I don’t know for a fact that they do.

I wonder how many manufacturers would warranty car wash damage.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

We can only hope! There’s an expression that I may not fully understand or agree with: “The Perception is the Reality”. My “social media” is comprised mostly of Threads and Facebook, having abandoned Twitter some time ago. On both of these, the majority perception of Tesla, the CyberTruck and...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Has anyone else seen this - I haven’t seen it posted. It comes close to my current sentiments. That up to now, Tesla has had a “Master Plan” involving more Gigafactories, more models, Semi production and the like. Recently they seem to be “thrashing around” with lack of focus and erratic...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

They start at $38,990 now, which adjusted for inflation would be very close to that original $35k goal. I wonder if the path to a $25k Tesla might not be via a trimmed-down Model 3. With more efficient production and economies of scale, a smaller battery and combined with government...

Tesla To Recall 3,878 Cybertrucks Over Faulty Accelerator Pedal

Isn’t one of Elon’s maxims: “The best part is no part?” A non-functional trim piece on an accelerator pedal would certainly seem to violate this ideal.
  11. FastEddieB

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I think the point was the danger of driving to a service center with a known defect, a liability concern of its own. Is the accelerator trim piece easily removable?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I’ve mentioned the maxim “Never try to catch a falling knife”. Related is the humility to recognize how many times one has been wrong before. IOW, thinking $250 or $200 or $175 was “just a fantastic price” and buying all the way down. What, exactly, would give one confidence that there’s...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Forgive me if this has been mentioned - this is a hard thread to keep up with. Analogies are, by their nature, never perfect. But someone on Threads contrasted Musk with Lee Iacocca. In that when Chrysler was struggling, Iacocca voluntarily had his salary reduced to $1 to show how serious he...

    ALL CyberTruck discussion

We’re on a trip back from Texas to Tennessee after seeing the eclipse in Texas and swing south to Tampa for a Bat Mitzvah. So far this trip we saw our first Cybertruck in the wild in a Target parking lot near Austin. Then another on the Interstate in Texas. And yesterday one on the Interstate...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

It may or may not be justified, but I have a very low opinion of GM quality and reliability. And our new-to-us Toyota Tundra is serving us quite well..
  18. FastEddieB

    Cybertruck is a scam.

That does seem shortsighted. Wanting to carry motorcycles and such in the bed, the range extender makes it a non-starter for our use case. 500 mile range with maybe 250 towing and the full bed available, and we might be back in the market for one.

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Must really suck for those new owners. But that’s 10 out of how many delivered? It may translate to less than 1%. Still too high, but perhaps understandable for version 1 of a vehicle with so much new tech.

I had no idea the efficient fell off a cliff when it's raining!

Airplanes suffer a definite hit to airspeed in the rain. It increases surface friction drag by disturbing the laminar flow of air over the wings. Of course, in a car this is compounded by the drag of the tires meeting the water puddling on the road surface.

    500 mile range? LOL

Is it universally bad or more “anecdotally” bad? The one time we needed it - in 2+ years and 55,000 miles, getting the rear defroster fixed - the experience was quick and efficient. Knoxville, TN service center, BTW.

    500 mile range? LOL

A friend is on his second Lightning - the first was totaled in a rear end collision. He likes it a lot. The frunk is cavernous. The interior is a bit “busy”, but pretty sure I’d get used to it. My main concern would be for service after the sale if something did go wrong. Might be unfounded...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I wonder if allowing nature to run its course with the finish may become a thing. Seeing at more as a “patina” and less like *sugar*. Kind of like the mottled look of color case hardening. But more likely, wrapping may be the most popular option.

Torquing Lug Nuts with Torque Sticks 120ftlbs or 140?

Another option is to use physics and a spring scale. In lieu of a spring scale you can also use a known weight, such as a barbell plate. You can get 120 ft lbs (for example) by applying 120 lbs at an arm (wrench length) of 1 ft. Or, more conveniently, 60 lbs at 2’, or 30 lbs at 4’. You can get...

Prediction, in Which Year Will New Electric Vehicle Sales Exceed 50% in the United States "Poll"

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but… I belong to a Honda Clarity PHEV forum. The Clarity advertises 47 miles of EV range. A bit more in summer months, decidedly less in winter months. A suburban owner with a 10 to 15 mile commute will very rarely burn any gas at all. There are those who go...

Like you say, small utility trailer is easy. But a travel trailer with a weight distribution hitch is a much bigger deal. Probably 10 to 15 minutes each for both unhitching and hitching back up. Not the end of the world, but every hour and a half or so on a trip would wear thin quickly. Add in...

No one know where the "bottom" will be. On your second point, I've said prior that my enthusiasm for acquiring shares has been muted, first by a little and more recently by a lot. Unless it meets “resistance” at 170 and turns around and goes to the moon. Or continues to “trade in a range”. Or breaks through “resistance” and continues to “test new lows”. Am I doing this right? I think I’ve got all the bases covered.

    Cybertruck On Display in Japan

It seems weirdly appropriate, given the origami-like contours of the CyberTruck. Edited to add: Wondering if this was perhaps not an original idea, I tried a Google image search for “origami CyberTruck”. Turns out it’s not.

Not a van, but I think something like this could be a hit. And not require extensive retooling or new engineering. I could see one of these a a supplement to our ICE tow vehicle, not a replacement.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

You may recall, we recently gave up on any current EV truck for towing, and went with a newer ICE to replace an aging ICE: But “never” is a long time. If and when an EV truck can go at least 250 miles while towing, and pull-through charging stations become widespread, we’ll be ready to make...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Maybe. But a lot of folks might prefer an affordable EV truck who might have stretched to get an R1T because that’s all that was offered. I had a deposit on an R1T, but it made no sense at the current price point.

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Ryan Shaw is a YouTuber who bought a Rivian R1T. He recently sold it. Though he tries to put a positive spin on it, he sure did have an inordinate amount of problems, large and small, in the time he owned it. In addition, Rivian may have seriously “Osborned” themselves, having just announced...
