40 mi commute, office charger debate

Love the way the conversion has evolved you guys are great. Curve ball. No rebates in my area and I’ll only be at this office 2-3 times a week. But I plan to buy into the building in the next 5 years. It’s currently owned by two physicians that are retiring in the next few years. I’m hoping to...

40 mi commute, office charger debate

All excellent points. Thank you everyone for weighing in. I’ve done a little research. It only cost $0.09/kWh. I won’t pay this at work but I will at home. I think if I decide to do anything I may consider a wall connector since its weather tolerant. At $400 now, it’s even more affordable than...

40 mi commute, office charger debate

Well this thread took a turn. To clarify I will be paying for whatever charger is installed but the office pays the electric bill. I’m the only EV there and that likely won’t change. Not sure if this changes anyones outlook. I guess the other question is, Is there a benefit of charging vs...

40 mi commute, office charger debate

I am making a 40 mi commute to work and 40 mi's back each day. I'm set to accept delivery of a MYP in about 2-weeks. I already have a Tesla Wall connector installed in my garage and plan to plug in every night. My office is willing to put in a plug outside for me to charge while at work (~8-9...

    Recent MYP Delivery Estimates

Interesting all of us East Coast/Southerns have a similar window. My EDD is May 7th-June 3rd. OD: 2/8. Hold place 2-weeks later and released 3/22. My order was April but 2 days into my delivery window it flipped to May-June. They even texted me and asked if I had a trade in. I don’t. Got me all...

Built in Austin? Look for the "A" in VIN digit 11

I agree. The numbers don’t make sense, it seems software limited. Why? Who knows If these are software limited 4680’s it does bring up a good point. We may not see a weight reduction, as anticipated, with the MY 2.0’s

Built in Austin? Look for the "A" in VIN digit 11

Agreed. More of a question as to whether or not they tested a LR as it appears or the SR as the data further down suggests. 🤷‍♂️

Built in Austin? Look for the "A" in VIN digit 11

Surely I’m not the first one to point this out. This is from the EPA’s most recent update. It’s odd that it says long range but the data that is provided later on is for the new standard all-wheel-drive variant. https://dis.epa.gov/otaqpub/display_file.jsp?docid=54971&flag=1 Page 51

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

From the EPA .PDF. It says Long Range was tested but the updated data listed is for the AWD variant. The LR and P data did not change. It’s a little confusing. One thing is for sure this appears to be the first VIN out of Austin https://dis.epa.gov/otaqpub/display_file.jsp?docid=54971&flag=1...

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

I think the demand for electric cars is only going to increase, especially given what’s going on. MY 1.0’s will likely hold their value, especially since the supply is so low. That may change in the next year or two if we head into a recession or worse war. It that’s a topic for another thread...

    Trickle charge question

I’m having my Tesla wall connector installed tomorrow. Just want to clarify. Does the Tesla wall charger trickle charge once it reaches the set percentage of charge? Or does it shut off and kick back on once it gets low enough?

Model Y rolling / being pushed off assembly line

Its a bit concerning that this was a celebration. Although I appreciate the significance this is only enough for ~1000 MY's. Only hope is that during the Q4 earnings call they said that the 4680's were not a constraint to production. Hopefully they have a boat load of batteries coming in from...

    Gigs Texas shows full production

Looks like MYLR’s that’s exciting news for those waiting for MYLR’s. Based on these photos and the recent photo of the trailer leaving Austin with MYP’s it appears they will be sending out both versions soon.

Ethics of placing orders on hold [moved out of Gigafactory Texas]

If you hold an order do you lock in that price? And can you hold an order through the app or do you have to go through your SA? My sales associate is ghosting me after mentioned I’m considering holding until the 4680’s come out.

    4680 Batteries from Giga Texas

The 4680 battery system is no doubt a gateway to more range for Tesla. The question is how soon will it happen. 1-3 year future Prediction: Model Y and 3: ~400 mile range Model S and X: ~500 mile range If they can reduce weight with structural batteries and fit enough 4680’s to give them the...

    4680 Batteries from Giga Texas

This is a deep dive into the physics of range and performance comparisons of the 2170’s vs 4680’s. It may surprise you that range won’t change much but performance Could with an estimated 200kg weight reduction. It’s a lot easier for Tesla to “detune” the power than it would be to decrease the...

    4680 Batteries from Giga Texas

No firm data yet. LOTS of speculation. I've been scouring the forums for some form of confirmation. No one has received a 4680 car yet. to my knowledge. 4680 Batteries from Giga Texas

Exciting. But lots a questions still. When will they "run out" of 1270 batteries? And as they start rolling out the MY's with 4680 batteries from Giga Austin will they also continue to push out 1270 MY's from Fremont? If so, will we be able to choose? Or Will they simply stop producing MY's...
