My thinking is that it makes more sense to do it during the peak of production so that if you're not grid tied, or the grid power goes out, you're not without power during the upgrade.

This thread has me wondering. In a grid outage, if my system is putting out let's say 10kw, and my house is drawing only 2kw, and the PW is charging at 5kw, will I have a problem because of the excess not being "absorbed" by the grid?

The Powerwall basically draws up to 5kw from the panel production, leaving the rest for everything else in the house to consume. So far, I have not had a power outage, since the system was only installed back early last month.
