Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

Oh ok - that’s good to know about the taycan. Always difficult to compare cars range wise bcos of the all pervading vagueness and annotated numbers. I wish we had sources of objective information to be able to take rational decisions - unfortunately in the car industry telling the things as they...

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

Yea - after 6 months my conclusion is that - unless you have extra time and energy - having an always available home charger at >= 6kW is a necessity. The inconveniences add up. Also after having bought my m3 awd for 59k , expecting a range of ~350 miles, I now realize that the true range is...

First two week and first ~1000 miles in a new 2023 M3LR AWD

Echo many of your feelings. I too have a m3awd and hv put on 11.5k miles in 7 months. So far, so good. Got used to what the car actually does v what I expected it to do. It lost some battery range and now is at 340 miles v 355 miles. Love all the “auto” stuff too - have everything set at auto...

Yes - totally agree -- wow… what did the M3 do as evasive action?

Tesla safety score dictates driving time

to add - another philosophical point -- "accelerating advent of sustainable energy" is a statement of social good. So just like individuals, companies also have social responsibilities. Some forget or are forced to forget (survival/other issues) - and concentrate on profit. Tesla could...

Tesla safety score dictates driving time

I think tesla intends to fine tune the algorithm so that the insurance business minimizes losses. However this seems quite anti-freedom/totalitarian to me and seems to want to reward the serfs of the insurance company aka people who are willing to curtail their freedom of movement to avoid...

    Windshield Wiper Fluid and Recommendation

2022m3awd - I have noticed that using the original Tesla wiper fluid did help the smoothness with which the wiper blades worked. Sometimes i noticed that the blades make “thud thud” noise and the wipers seem to vibrate while wiping. Splashing some of the wiper fluid reduced the noise and...

Setting my wife up for success with Autopilot

My reco is to keep following distance 2-4 cars on busy highways. With high +6 following distance I have observed that phantom breaking can sometimes be worse and unexpected. With 3-4 car following distance, the car slows down more gently in most cases. In some scenarios if the traffic slows to...

Is it me, but are 2018-2020s are better builds than 2021/22s?

I have difficulty closing my 2022 m3 awd frunk every time. I am not sure if it is me - but I tried several ways and I am usually able to get my frunk closed in 6-7 attempts. So every time I open the frunk I worry a bit :)

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

I agree without all you said. However, I think ppl without access to charging or vulnerable to predatory charging rates are those without home or work charging. So the cost savings are going to accrue to certain category of folks - not to folks who might most benefit from it - which is ironical.

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

Another factor I heard about somewhere is that these providers are not making much money from the chargers. They are better off financially if a charger is not used. If this is true- imho - they should exit the charging industry instead of impeding the growth of the ev industry.

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

Yea - I think this aspect needs to be discussed more so that people are properly informed before deciding to go EV when not having access to at home charging. I think much of the public listed (non Tesla) infrastructure as 1 or more of the following problems 1)behind walled gardens - for...

Ok - Good info…looks like the only way for me to figure it out is to try them out 1 by 1 :)

    Tyre Pressures and warnings

I noticed yesterday that my tires were showing 41 psi/40 psi. Wondering how it went down so much. Most of summer it was 43/42 psi.

Very interesting and the CHAdeMO adapter. Wondering how much the 45kW charge affected the battery capacity. I have been checking out PlugShare - I am a bit unsure which ones are for public use vs private use. Wish they would clearly tag those.

Not yet but I will contact them directly. I was finding it difficult to find a way to contact chargepoint. Could not see it on their website - but found a number recently.

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

Imo if the mining companies consider protecting the environment as an important consideration, this should be possible. From benefits standpoint every creature and human rich or poor can only benefit from a better environment.

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

This is a great suggestion! might be perfect for this traffic. I will try it.

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

Yes I have heard about this. I think I will pass this on to the Apertment folks. Thanks for the link! Do you know the rate /kwh tesla charges? What about non tesla connectors - I think the apartment has to take care of those folks also. I use a J1772 adapter for the charpoint stations.

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

Yep - I bought the car primarily to reduce my long term vehicle costs. It is kind of ironic, that people who are price sensitive would find it difficult to take advantage of cost saving capabilities of an electric car.

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

:) I actually don't mind the chime that much - but isn't there a way to turn it off? Even though I am a minimalist guy and have grown used to the Tesla screen layout - I sometimes feel that cruise control indicator could be bolder and more explicit. It seems to me, for someone new to Tesla (like...

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

I am living in an apartment in Irvine,CA. When I bought by Tesla model 3 awd, 3 months back I was kind of anxious about charging. But since apartment had a total of 10 6KW chargepoint stations (2 per floor in the parking garage), I was thinking this might work out somehow - but I had my...

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

After a month more and a few more road trips - I am using some thumb rules for when to use and when not to: for example, auto steer in heavy LA traffic may not always be the best idea - especially because of hard breaking/regen can cause trouble for following cars. On the free way in light...

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

I feel a little uncomfortable with auto steer at times - especially when it takes those curves quite fast. It manages the curves quite well though. I still need to get used to it!

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

Yes same here. Sometimes the approach speed is so high, that i start wondering whether it is going to stop - so I keep my foot near the brake pedal. At other times however it is quite gentle. It seems to me some of this is affected by the number of cars distance setting. I have usually kept it...

Yes that was the one - it disappeared before i could read it. This is really helpful!

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

Ok that brings to mind - it turned off the TACC on a couple of occasions. It wasn’t good because of the significant slow down/regen. Other cars slow down gradually unless breaks are applied. Under what circumstances does the TACC get disengaged?
  31. C

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

Ok yea i had read that somewhere too. In this case we were not near the top however the road was curving away. Also there were cars in front and being me (and in both adjoining lanes)
  32. C

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

I did try that but seems like there was a message on the screen something to do brakes - could not read it - not sure if that was a warning.

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

Yea - I really wish the dumb cruise control was available as an option. That way there’s a cruise control feature that i can be fully sure of in terms of how it will behave
  34. C

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

Ok. That’s good to know that TACC will look at adjoining lanes too. I was on this steep incline and the trucks were really slow. It’s was almost midnight. It put on the brake/regen all of a sudden. I thought it was kind of dangerous. I don’t have the fsd or the half way package.
  35. C

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

I thought there was an option to turn off traffic aware cruise control - but turns out that’s the option to turn off just the chime :)

Recent road trip - experience with auto steer and traffic aware cruise control

I got my Tesla model3 awd month before last so I am a new driver. A few things i noticed on my recent LA to SF and back trip about auto steer and traffic aware cruise control: Traffic aware cruise control sometimes seems to slow down gently and on other times maintains speed while approaching...
