Hi guys, due to take delivery on Thursday. Having a bit of a registration problem with Tesla. Has anyone registered a car to a Trustee Company? Tesla is claiming I need to register it to the Trust as the first operator, but it doesn't have a QLD CRN and I've never registered any company car...

You ordered when Tesla was clearly forecasting August to November... Just relax, it will come when it comes, you get to start whining when its past the EDD window.

Unlikely, Polestar in H1 delivered around 600 cars. Tesla did 4,000 more and can't get close to the demand from the consumer. Your friends got lucky if that 3 weeks delivery is true, I know a fleet customer that was quoted the standard delivery window for more than six units. Not sure what fast...

No it isn't. Tax on an imported good that is controlled by the Federal Government vs trying to tax road use that individual States are responsible for. It couldn't be any more dissimilar.

I think they said it would be a careful ramp after the production line reopened. Which I think only restarted about a week ago. I think you will get a VIN in the next week. Does anyone know if there were any changes to the cars after the production line pause? Or was it all just production line...

You should query a solicitor that does lease work. I don't think there is anything stopping your company from doing this.

I don't really get it, you were given a range when you ordered, the SA likely correctly advised you that you be closer to the front, then something out of their control happened and you got a revised EDD. What more could they do? It would be pretty impractical to attempt to give you a firm date...

Generally your tax savings are front loaded, but yeah if you locked yourself into a 5 year financing deal you would need to break the finance contract at whatever charge is applicable.

FBT is an ongoing charge, it would be billed as an exemption to certain fringe benefits (there are many already) and it would have no relevance to when you ordered the vehicle. If anything I think the law will be dated to the start of the FBT year, not 1 July, makes more sense.

Depends on your circumstances and what the quote is. Then no need to do a novated lease. Your company buys the car, takes the GST credits, claims the car limit for depreciation, you use it essentially to your hearts content and never have an FBT liability. You aren't then stuck with minimum...

I would imagine that the exemption would be designed to largely replicate that. It is the simplest way to implement it.

The novated lease still includes finance. The purpose is to bundle the cost of a vehicle into a salary sacrifice arrangement where the expenses are paid pre-tax. Saving you whatever marginal tax rate is applicable to your situation. Obviously that is too good a deal, so they introduced FBT...
