Is #8 THHN with Tesla Wall Charger Up To Code? (On 50A Breaker)

I see nothing wrong with that. #6 NM-B has greater or equal ampacity (55A) at it's required 60C column than #8 at at any temp.

upcoming Massachusetts off-peak electric rates for EV charging??

There are many electric charges at the wholesale and large commercial/industrial retail levels that are based on monthly or annual peak demand. Under extreme conditions, the wholesale cost for a marginal kWh can reach several dollars. National Grid is funding the rebate out of cost savings in...

Is #8 THHN with Tesla Wall Charger Up To Code? (On 50A Breaker)

You can only use the 90C column if your wire, and the terminals it connects to, are 90C rated. I don't think the WC terminal are (only 75C), and I've never seen a residential breaker with 90C terminals. But even following the 75C column, #8 THHN @ 40A charging is fine.

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

How so? A single exposed conductor is 120V to ground in both cases (in North America, anyway). A 15A circuit is just as deadly as a 60A one, since a (non-GFCI) breaker won't trip in either case. About the only way I can see a 240V circuit being more deadly is if you come into contact with...

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

I have nothing constructive to add to this discussion, but I just wanted to say that @LetsGoElectric's avatar made my day! It brought back memories of my Dad reading "The Monster at the End of This Book" at bedtime in his best Grover impression.

main panel has 30 amp to garage panel, what are the options

This is a really important point that I think a lot of people overlook. I hate to hear that someone is charging off an existing 120V outlet, for these reasons. EDIT - and this!

Travel charger pigtails I made today

Yes. The only possible issue is going the other way (using a 240V adapter on 120V). The first gen mobile connector was definitely fussy about which side was connected to hot and which to ground; I wouldn't be surprised if the second gen is as well. This came up a lot with homemade TT-30...

main panel has 30 amp to garage panel, what are the options

I found a Siemens 25A a while ago on Amazon. The second-generation WC does have a 25A circuit/20A charge setting. Too bad the third gen doesn't. The third gen has fewer options, which is a bit silly, since it's all software controlled in the app vs the 16-position physical switch in the...

main panel has 30 amp to garage panel, what are the options

With a 30A circuit, it's closer to 20mph, even if limiting the charge rate to 20A like I do. Another factor: how close is the nearest supercharger if you need a quick top off? @hybrid>EV lives in CA, theres a good chance there's a SC a stone's throw away.

main panel has 30 amp to garage panel, what are the options

It is perfectly safe and legal to run aluminum to a subpanel. Most homes have aluminum main feeders and subpanel feeders. Aluminum from a subpanel to a wall connector is a no-no; the WC's terminals are not rated for aluminum.

At the risk of sounding like a bit of a jerk, I would never suggest that someone who doesn't know the difference between a single and double pole breaker take the cover off their panel. OP should have a little more electrical knowledge before considering that, IMHO. @hybrid>EV, I am in a...

Leaving Phone in Car while at work

Not helpful. If I need to remember to shut off the phone, I wouldn't forget and leave it in my car, would I? If the phone didn't unlock the car, its presence shouldn't prevent the car from locking. If that’s what’s happening, it’s either a bug or a bad UX design.

    Yet another 100% charging question

You could charge to 90% slightly more often. Say you use 10%/day. You could do a 90% charge every 9 days or a 100% charge every 10. Since that extra 10% takes so much longer, you'd probably wind up spending less total time charging if you did 90% every 9 days vs 100% every 10. It's not a...

Leaving Phone in Car while at work

I have "phone key" disabled in my app and use a fob. For some stupid reason, the car will ignore walk away lock if I leave the phone in the car but take my fob with me. If I take the phone and fob with me, it will auto lock. If I leave the phone at home for a trip and just bring the fob, the...

    Supercharger - Auburn MA

I agree - my quick test seems to indicate most of the heating happens in the last 15 minutes or so. It's definitely not heating the battery to >100F and holding it there for a long time. Waiting until you are closer and are confident you can make it shouldn't impact your charge speeds much.

Tesla Service centers and dealerships now allowed in Vermont

There's no tax or legal reason (unlike MA), but I wouldn't be surprised if it takes Tesla a while to figure that out. I have bought 2 cars from VT dealers as a NH resident; no VT sales tax. One dealer was local, so I paid, went to town hall with the paperwork, registered it, and drove home...

I hope not, but I just wanted to be clear. Travel charger pigtails I made today

This is an important point many people don't understand. EV charging is a continuous load, and pretty much the only one you see in a residential situation. Almost all heating elements cycle on and off while in use, so they aren't a continuous load, despite what many people think.

Functioning as designed. After charging is complete, the car instructs the charging station to disconnect power. Paying what tax? Mass sales tax? No, because Tesla will not sell a NH resident a car from a MA location, period. NH buyers have two options for taking delivery - deliver to home/office (probably not an option during the quarter/year end rush), or pick up in NJ/PA (and soon VT), states which...

Interesting, maybe it's a US/UK thing. Personally, I'd trade blended braking for properly functioning adaptive matrix headlights. No regen low/standard here, but we get blended braking and off-road assist (but maybe off-road assist is a Y-only thing). I don't have trailer mode, since I don't...

Pedals & steering menu->turn on "Apply brakes when regenerative braking is limited" Feels just like full regen and works at any temperature or state of charge. Helps remove surface rust from the rotors and prevents rust pitting and long term rotor damage, too.

Does that show 2 pins, one for each rate? Or 1 pin, 250kW max? Brattleboro, VT and West Lebanon, NH are the same - both started out with 8 x 150kW stalls. Later (after 250kW v3's were commonplace) they were upgraded with an additional 8 x 250kW stalls. Are you asking if they were built with...

It takes a lot of energy to preheat the battery in the morning, maybe I shouldn’t?

Oh, ok, missed that point. Yes, it's better for the battery to pre-condition the CABIN on shore power vs battery power (less cycling). My point was that pre-conditioning the BATTERY is generally unnecessary and not really doing anything beneficial to the battery. Preconditioning for 5-10 min...
