    Drove the Highland Yesterday.

One thing I noticed, almost all of the tow hook cover circles were slightly misaligned or loose. Otherwise fit and finish seemed pretty good. The window alignment issues that were common on the older cars seemed better or non-existent, at least on the cars I saw. 🤷‍♂️

    Drove the Highland Yesterday.

Yeah I thought it was a bit more numb than the outgoing model. Both in feel and in response. Also more body roll in turns compare to the pre-highland. I liked the pre-highland setup with the 18s. Stiffer suspension but the tire sidewall soaks up more of the bumps. The new setup is...

2023.44.30.8 autopilot cameras and emergency braking unavailable a lot

I didn’t. It started working again. But it’s kind of loose so I’m sure it will cause errors again. I called Tesla and they said they will replace if I want to bring it in.

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

I drove the highland LR awd and RWD back to back today and I spent considerable time in a pre highland 2023 RWD model 3 recently. All had the 18 inch wheels with aero covers. I found the highland to be holistically quieter and smoother when driving around town. I liked the seats better. The...

    Supercharger - Detroit, MI

Yeah for whatever reason the Livonia one and this Detroit one are busier than the Northville one. Not sure why.

    Supercharger - Detroit, MI

I’ve used this charger a couple times. It’s very close to Ferndale. It’s usually very busy with multiple cars waiting for stalls. There’s a security guard there mediating between people and directing traffic. I prefer the charger in Livonia or Northville but this is the only one along the...

My Model 3 interior making me sick (literally)

Really the only thing that safely gets rid of VOCs is to remove the source or time and temperature. New cars have bad off gassing. It takes several months to a couple years for the level to go down to background.

2023.44.30.8 autopilot cameras and emergency braking unavailable a lot

Upon further investigation there appears to be water intrusion into the driver side front fender camera/turn signal. It showed up after this major storm we just had. My guess is it’s a coincidence and the software update isn’t to blame. I won’t know for sure until they can replace the camera.

2023.44.30.8 autopilot cameras and emergency braking unavailable a lot

My 2022 Model 3 SR just updated to 2023.44.30.8 and all day long I’ve been getting messages saying “autopilot cameras unavailable” and “emergency braking unavailable”. They will go away and then come back. My cameras aren’t dirty or blocked. Anyone else see this? New bug?

    Renting a Y from Hertz?

I got a Model 3 SR as a rental this week from a local Hertz and the QR code popped up. I downloaded the Tesla app, signed into my Tesla account and was able to register the car. It failed the first couple times to register the car, but once I was signed into the app I force quit it in the iPhone...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

That would be great if it did. It’s the only car in the lineup that didn’t have it.

    Firestone Firehawk ASv2?

Has anyone run the Firestone Firehawk ASv2 on their Model 3 with stock 19 inch wheels? Any comments? I haven’t seen much about this tire.

My Model 3 interior making me sick (literally)

I have some issues with itching and skin/respiratory irritation in the model 3 and Y. I don't get it as much (or at all) in the S and X. I also get it with some new Volvos. Not sure why.

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Yeah I know. They are reportedly re-designing the car. They could conceivably redesign the frunk area to accommodate a larger or different shape filter. My comment about other HEPA filters wasn’t about the ones designed for the current model 3 filter slot. It was about HEPA filters in general in...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Yeah that’s what they keep saying. Yet there are HEPA filters on the market in all shapes and sizes. I’m sure they could figure out how to make a HEPA filter work in the model 3. The design of the current 3 HVAC system is not good. It’s got two filters with a gap between them jammed right next...

UGH - The smell of it. [AC Smell]

Don't run your Heat/AC in a car wash is good practice. But beyond that idk.

UGH - The smell of it. [AC Smell]

Honestly I wonder if all of this is fixable by removing the factory filters and installing a MERV 13 or similar filter at the intake in the cowl area. That would at least get the filter off of the evaporator. It would make it so the recirculated air isn’t filtered, however. Probably void the...

UGH - The smell of it. [AC Smell]

It's not a great design. The filter is too close to the evaporator, so in some circumstances the moisture leftover on the evaporator dries into the filter, wetting the filter, and causing mold to grow. The compartment also uses open cell foam insulation which has the same issue. Also, the filter...

Bio Hazard Now Standard on Model Y

I really hope they do this with the 3 also. If they can fit it in the Y they can fit it in the 3. The frunk size isn’t *that* different.

    Model 3 AC Smell Update...

My Tesla Smells New Again! (FULL TUTORIAL/ Exploring the HVAC system This video does a really good job of showing how the bottom part of the model 3 bottom filter basically touches the area where the water drains (and the foam insulation for the evaporator). Also the drain hole has no tube and...

    Model 3 AC Smell Update...

Not sure VW fixed it. Many complaints about MK7 Golfs with this issue. My 2017 GTI developed it at about 1 year @ 10k miles and multiple attempts to clean the coils and change filters haven’t completely solved it. Every Audi I’ve ever been in that’s more than a year old has smelled musty. VW...

Model 3 - Strange "helicopter" noise

What tires do you guys have? I had this issue on a previous car. It was somewhat minimized by switching to a tire with less stiff sidewalls and rotating every 5k. Made sure the alignment was done right when I got a new set of tires. Some tires on some cars are just prone to feathering/cupping...

New tires killed my range (20-30% decrease)

Can confirm, I live down the street. At any given time they have a parking lot full of new cars they are doing emissions tests on.

New tires killed my range (20-30% decrease)

I lost like 10% range going from the Pirelli Cinturato P7 (grand touring all season) to the Michelin PS AS3+ (Ultra high performance all season) last year. But now my car handles better and stops better. I gave up some ride comfort. The Michelin’s seem to be more flat resistant also. Anyways...

    AC odor removal and cleaning

Has anyone stuck a camera in the drain pan area after the AC is run? I wonder if there are just low spots or ridges in the plastic preventing the water from completely draining.

Panel Gaps, MY vs BMW X3

We have a GTI and a Q5 (2017 and 2013). A family member just got a Y. Subjectively the GTI has the least panel gap issues. The Q5 had some noticeable gaps near the lift gate. The Y had a few, but it wasn’t much worse than the Q5. None of the cars have had body work. /shrug

My Model 3 interior making me sick (literally)

My wife is in the market to replace her current car. We rented a 3 twice on Turo in late 2018 to see what it was like. We went to an event that Tesla was putting on to offer test drives so she could see the Y since our local Tesla gallery doesn’t have one yet. The S and X cars have been friends...

My Model 3 interior making me sick (literally)

The early model 3s had different seats and had real leather steering wheels I think. Anecdotally I’ve had similar reactions to dark synthetic fabrics in clothes, although it’s not very consistent. It seems to be worse with recycled polyester. Both 2020 cars (3,Y) were at an event that Tesla...

My Model 3 interior making me sick (literally)

The initial one I drove was a very early LR RWD 2018 black interior. It was from the time period when they were only selling them to current owners. The second one I drove was also also a LR RWD 2018 with black interior, but I’m not sure when it was built. Both were OK. Most recently I was in a...

My Model 3 interior making me sick (literally)

Did you ever get to the bottom of this. I’ve noticed a similar thing. I drove an early Model 3 and had no issues. But all of the new ones give me a headache and make me itch. The black interior seems worse. I recently sat in a model Y (white interior) and didn’t have this issue. I then sat in a...

How to remove the odor / mold smell from your AC

It would be good if they indeed redesigned the drain pan. I also wonder if part of the problem is that the filters are 1) so close to the evaporator, and 2) there are two of them, with a seam down the middle between them when installed. Air follows the path of least resistance, so unless there...

    Anything I'll miss upgrading to "just" a M3 SR+ from Audi A4?

Define handling? Most Audi weight distribution isn’t even. (They are a bit front heavy). However, they do have Quattro which helps some. The model 3 RWD handles more neutral like a RWD BMW, that is so say it will probably handle “better” but you will probably oversteer at the limit vs the Audi...

Preservation on that New Car Smell... forever

Considering the smell is makes me feel sick I hope it will go away soon. However, increase in outside temperature tends to increase chemical off gassing so my guess is that it will increase before it ultimately goes away.

This will not end well for BMW

Even if you ignore the trend of people shifting to SUVs the other thing that has been hurting BMW the past few years is the 3 Series was getting stale. The F30 3 series came out in 2012 and even though they updated the tech in a lot of ways it was a worse 3 series compared to the previous two...

    AC odor removal and cleaning

I get pretty sick in the presence of air conditioners that have grown mold or bacteria - both in buildings and in cars. It’s a concentrated source and it’s creating contamination in a small enclosed space. It’s best to deal with the issue.

I think they are using a Tesla branded version of the Mann “Frecious Plus” filters. These have a yellow layer that is supposed to inhibit microbial growth. Does it work - I guess we are finding out.

    AC odor removal and cleaning

Just a thought, has anyone tried spraying peroxide on the evaporator? Or via the intake? Would it damage anything? It’s pretty innocuous and does a good job of getting rid of mildew.

    AC odor removal and cleaning

Is there really a concern for the car getting too hot while parked without “cabin overheat protection” turned on with AC? It seems like nearly every other car on the road doesn’t have this feature and they all have screens and are fine. Is this a necessity? Or just a nice to have?
