I have a 2015 model S does the same thing, It’s a love-hate relationship, first car I’ve ever had this problem with. Tesla service center will not fit my front drive unit whine, noise, rear drive unit clunk, many issues like this make me want to get rid of the vehicle.

Makes me hate this vehicle and hate driving it. I love everything else about it well, except for the front drive unit whining noise and rear drive unit clunk. Oh, and wind noise and creeks. Never mind I don’t like the vehicle.

I just replaced the front tires and front wheels in hopes of eliminating steering wheel vibration. No luck, still feel all vibration through steering wheel. Does anyone know if this is just the transfer of road by design of the steering system? I am all out of ideas.

You are absolutely right. I have brought my vehicle in while warranty was expiring for the past four months and eight visits and they are borderline incompetent. Such a bad experience from drive unit issues to one noise issues to alignment issues to MCU update issues, horrific experience.

I still want to try all these tricks that are listed, but I haven’t had any luck. I have pretty much eliminated this noise temporarily by installing a body pillow in the opening just to isolate it, it’s worth losing my rearview mirror for now.

Same here 15 S 85D. They started with the RDU didn’t fix it but now I have a new clunk in rear! So frekin annoying. Electric coolant heater ended up being the problem with my limp mode
