    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Just got another invoice from Tesla for the Y we have on order and the $3k discount offered for cancelled S orders has been applied. I ordered a new S just before the refresh was announced In 2020. Waited 2 and a half years and then the order was cancelled. Bugger. Not all bad as I got sick of...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I have just been out to the delivery centre in HUME (Canberra)( to drop off rego application papers for my Y- EDD May25-June15 OD, 11/1/23) and the place is absolutely chocka block with 3s and Ys. While I was there another truck arrived with 3 x 3s and 4 x Ys. The driver said they were...

Why are there so many M3 for sale in Australia. The number on Car Sale has doubled in a week

I have fitted the hansshow unit to my M3 and while attaching the main plug to the OBD port was a serious PITA I couldn’t be happier with the unit itself. There are lots of YouTube vids on how to fit- even an Au one. My first Tesla was a Model S and I really missed the in front display.

    RHD Model S builds?

I have a refreshed MS on order (ordered late in 2020 before the refresh was announced)and wonder when Tesla might start building RHD cars. Or have they already started? If so for which market?

MCU2 Upgrde and no AM or FM radio

My car connects to my home wi-fi in my garage without any problems but disconnects when I drive out. Then it is a big hit and miss for connecting on the drive into town and sometimes even has trouble streaming anything after I have been parked in town for a while. Eventually it gets a usable LTE...

MCU2 Upgrde and no AM or FM radio

Thanks for the heads up Meloccom- I have installed the Tunein app and blue toothed to the car. It will be interesting to see how much better my iPhone is compared to my MS. There are a few black spots for phone reception on my drive into town- but no where near as many as the car seems to suffer.

MCU2 Upgrde and no AM or FM radio

My MS did have both AM and FM radio with both MCU1s that I had. what I have looked for is radio tuner AM and/orFM with Bluetooth output- can’t find one. I guess this is the price of our new digital world. The Tesla tech who changed over both of my MCUs reckons that not only is the FM tuner a...

MCU2 Upgrde and no AM or FM radio

After the usual MCU1 problems, including a replacement MCU1, I finally decided to go for the $2.5k MCU2 upgrade. I am remarkably disappointed by the lack of radio as the new LTE (4G) sim appears to be much less useful than the old 3G sim for Spotify and Tunein. Often takes 5 minutes of driving...

Model S Refresh and Existing Orders

Bugger, bugger, bugger!! I have an existing order for a new MS and thought I might get it in March this year. Guess I will just have to keep driving my current MS. First world problems can be a bitch!

    Tyre repair

I carry a ARB tire plug kit in my MS and have fixed a few similar punctures. Worth visiting a 4x4 show to learn how to make these sorts of repairs- they are quite simple to do.

Time for a new Model S

Looks like the sunroof has gone. VERY few options these days- you get to pick colour, wheels, interior trim and FSD. That id the total list of options on the order page. On the other hand most previous options are now standard.

Time for a new Model S

Truth is I mainly charge at home via Solar and so with greater range I doubt I will really need much supercharging. In fact we usually have excess solar power and because we are off grid the Tesla was a good way to maximise solar production. Not that I really needed an excuse to buy the car- all...

Time for a new Model S

I thought I was waiting for a refresh- perhaps the M3 batteries. But it doesn’t seem likely in the not too distant. Bit like waiting for the latest new computer- it always comes eventually. And even when you do commit another new one arrives sooner or later afterwards. Paulp- thanks for the...

Time for a new Model S

My MS 85 is now almost 6 years old and while I still love it I feel the need for greater range and faster charging. A couple of questions for the brains trust:- I have lifetime supercharging- is this likely to be still available and carried over to a new MS as was promised some time ago? Will my...

One Pothole, 2 Flat Tyres on a Model 3P+

All the dual motor cars have a much smaller frunk/front and so the spare will not fit. I haven’t seen the frunk/front in a single motor 3.

One Pothole, 2 Flat Tyres on a Model 3P+

And so why did you buy the 21’s? Apart from the look (bling) I can’t see a single other benefit.

One Pothole, 2 Flat Tyres on a Model 3P+

I haven’t used the Tesla pump at all. I was “lucky” enough to spot the flats at home and fixed in my garage where I have a real air compressor. All the repairs lasted until the tyres needed replacing. AND if the plugs leaked surely the TPMS system would alert in the usual way?

One Pothole, 2 Flat Tyres on a Model 3P+

I have had 3 punctures in my MS in the 5 years I have owned the car and managed to fix all of them with an ARB plug repair kit. All were simple nails or similar in the main tread and so safe to fix. The plugs are really easy to use and a lot more convenient than calling a service vehicle. I also...

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

I have been using the Goulburn SC for the whole time it has been open (4+ years)and I have NEVER had or seen any problems. In fact I often have very pleasant chats with passers by and other interested locals. I have heard reports of vandalism but the worst I have seen have been regular stolen...

    Modern Spare tyres for S3X

The modern spare kit is a neater more elegant solution. I have a BMW X5 space saver and a Mazda bravo scissor jack and a wheel brace like the one in the kit. Bought them all 4 years ago long before kits were available. Cost at the time was perhaps $400 for the lot?

Warranty repairs - process and results

I had a rear ender repaired by Exclusive a couple of years ago- an insurance job. I was impressed with the work and the way they co-ordinated the work with Tesla. Not impressed with the price but it was an insurance job and no real skin off my nose. ear ender

    NSW EV Warning label

I have just noticed that from January 2020 we are required by law to display a green "EV" warning label on our number plates. The NSW RMS is supposed to send them to owners of EVs. Has anyone got them yet?

?Drop off of rate of charge at Supercharger St Leonards

Analysis of a charge I got at the Goulburn SC yesterday shows that I started at 17.14 and finished at 18.44. Start SOC was 65% and charge rate then was 300kms/hr and finish was 100%.

?Drop off of rate of charge at Supercharger St Leonards

I am a reasonably new user of the teslaspy app which enables viewing of the data my car sends to Tesla. It is a simple matter to log in and check charging rates. Over time I expect to be able to determine if my charging rates have been throttled and/or different rates at different SCs. Bit like...

St Leonards sales now shut on Saturday

I have had my model S for over 4 years and I have to say that if I were not addicted to the car, and the philosophy behind it, I would NEVER RECOMMEND Tesla in OZ to anyone. The sales personnel are generally very friendly but hopelessly incompetent. Every time I have taken my car to Sydney for...

EV fast-charging network to roll-out in Australia after funding boost

Actually AFAIK the best we can get from a Tesla supercharger at the moment is about 120kw. And if there are 8 stalls all occupied the actual power available is a lot less per stall as they are in pairs and I think the available power is only that 120Kw per pair. If that is the case then the...

What’s your 90% in Rated Range on an 85KWH Model S

Mine is exactly the same- car is 3.5 years old as well. And doesn’t seem to have changed since new. However my average ‘consumption’ is coming down slowly so that my compensate for degradation? As an aside I had a 75D as a loaner recently and it was reporting 90% charge as 348km on typical. I...

    ACTEW ACT charging fees

Update to ACTEWAGL (Canberra)charging points:- Rapid chargers now cost $5 per 15 minutes- usually about 45-50Kw- needs the chademo adaptor. Basically much too expensive at about 45c per kWh and you need to stay and watch the clock. Fast chargers cost $2 per session and up to 22Kw as they are 3...

If you are worried by the imagined "danger of EMR" you shouldn't own an electric car - go and buy yourself an all over tin foil suit

How much current (kW) is your house using while charging?

Most modern reticulated AC these days is nominally 230V not 240V. Certainly my SMA inverters produce 230V. So 20A is most likely 4600watts.
  37. J

How much current (kW) is your house using while charging?

A 5kw array should produce about 5kw when in full sun in ideal conditions but the output will almost always be less than that. So just set the charge current at about 20A (4600w) and most of your PV output will go to the car.

    Question about solar power

My MS85 is currently getting 32A all from my rooftop solar. I have a fairly large PV array and we are off grid with a battery bank. And it feels TERRIFIC!! I think I will go into town today to burn off some electrons- just because I can. HOWEVER.....unfortunately the whole system is NOT cost...

    Goulburn supercharger ICE'd

I called St Leonards a couple of weeks ago to report the missing signs. I also tried to buy a sign for home but was told they couldn't sell me one. Bit sad as it would look great in my garage. Much sadder that the booners at Goulburn are the worst in Australia.

    Qantas Tesla partnership

Hit a kangaroo, need a repairer

I have fitted a Shu-Roo to all my cars, including my Model S, for the last 20 years as I live in the bush near Canberra. Melb to Syd via Hwy1

    Melb to Syd via Hwy1

Richard How , and to whom, do you apply for the the RFID card for the CHADEMO charger in civic? Cheers Jim Sorry for the premature post- I have found the ACTEW site with info and will contact them tomorrow. At this stage I can't see how much the electrons cost. Not to mention the cost of the...

    Solar Panels + Tesla

The problem with this idea is that the range of the car would be drastically reduced by the extra power needed to tow the trailer. I have only seen limited reports of the effect of towing with a Model X but the real effect is significant range reduction. And I repeat my real world observation...

What is your average spend on EV power per week?

Free power for me too. All solar (perhaps 95% of total usage)or supercharger. Stand alone solar-no grid. Averaging about 1000kms per month. VERY satisfying guilt free motoring.
  47. J

    Solar Panels + Tesla

Ray, I charge my car almost entirely ( ie when not at a supercharger) from my home PV arrays which total 11Kw. I tell folks who ask about having PV panels on the car that I need about 80 square meters of panels to get a 32A charge rate Jim

    Flat Tyre

G'day Richard, Yes -single motor car- the D has a smaller froot and the X5 would not fit in the froot of a D The spare is just slightly too big to lie flat in the froot. It is about 170mm high. I have the jack under the wheel with repair kits etc in the "microwave" space at the back of the...

    Supercharger - Goulburn NSW

Yesterday at Goulburn supercharger = 115 kW - I was the only car charging at the time. Very impressive although I think I have seen a momentary charge rate of 500kms per hour on a previous visit.

    Supercharger - Goulburn NSW

The only change ,from the pictures posted by Kayto, I can see today are a bunch of poles between the Chargers which I assume will have some Tesla or EV only signage. Still fenced in. There is also a VERY big box which might be control gear or transformers?
