    Semi General Discussion

Tesla is literally building a factory in Nevada to do so ... seems like cognitive dissonance to ignore that fact. I agree Tesla missed deadlines by years and years, but Cybertruck at 1000 per week run rate is a real thing, no reason to expect less of Semi as Tesla negotiates battery supply...

Vehicle to PhotoVoltaic PV Inverter DC discharger available?

If you have the money to sink into an idle Tesla, may I respectfully suggest selling one of the cars and getting powerwalls, they'd work right away and wouldn't require spending time daily to supercharge and return home ... Our F150 Lightning has power backup to home via the Ford Charge...

    Semi General Discussion

Battery production capacity is massively increasing, yet Ford / GM / VW are slow walking electrification. I sense Tesla Semi program will benefit from this situation, especially in a world where California mandates emissions for large trucking. Semi has been stalled compared to other Tesla...

Second Semi test customer: Martin Brower

In a world where auto makers like Ford and GM are slow walking the EV transition, the battery production capacity coming online can be scooped up by Tesla to go into products like Semi that have waited on the sidelines starved for capacity.

Anyone in Hurricane country or anywhere else concerned with having both cars be electric?

Ford Lightning Pro power onboard. 131 kWh on tap ... When you need to run your air fryer to cook what's left in the fridge you're powering off your truck after a disaster.

    F-150 Lightning Thoughts

35 kWh / 100 km driving the same routes that our 2013 Model S gets 27 kWh / 100 km. Pickup truck with all the utility, comfort and power is 30% more in electricity vs a Tesla sedan ... trade off works for me. Range when towing is the issue, and I will report back, we're planning a 4 week East...

Bed cover, $600 CAD. Trifold hard cover. My wife said “Cybertruck comes with a built in cover, the Ford should have as well for the money” … can’t argue with her logic!

    F-150 Lightning Thoughts

The Lightning is heavy, so when I dip into it, I get the truck settled such that some weight has shifted and then floor it. It's a bit of a fine line, I don't go from 0 to max immediately, I roll into it and then jam to the floor, get the truck seated a bit on the back tires and then use that...

    F-150 Lightning Thoughts

Handling review. . Steering ratio is much slower than our Model S sedan, and I know this is advantageous for towing as I spent many hours towing with a 2022 Lightning last summer. In the city, roundabouts that I would slalom in the S for fun are harder to negotiate at speed, but when I do...

    500 mile range? LOL

Here in Toronto, I book same week, usually next day. In 2023 we had a 10+ year major overhaul completed in two days, links on all corners, all brakes, air suspension replacement, control arms, rear drive shaft. Booked on Friday, dropped car off and it was back Tuesday. Never been happier...

Any Ford Owners Receive Free NACS Adapter Yet?

Any Ford Owners Receive Free NACS Adapter Yet?

I've ordered both the Ford adaptor and third party A2Z adaptor. Which ever one comes first, great, the other I can sell to non-Ford customers who don't get a free adaptor. A2Z on the order acceptance email said there was a significant volume of orders and no estimate. Ford had similar language...

Anyone in Hurricane country or anywhere else concerned with having both cars be electric?

Our F150 Lightning has 131 kWh of storage and is charged to 90% daily. The 240V 30A and 120V 20A outlets on the truck can easily power our kitchen devices (air fryer, induction cooktop, etc) and otherwise get us by. I also have a small 10 kWh home battery and solar.

    Lightning vs CyberTruck feature spreadsheet

Visibility. 360 degree camera feature and external lighting (mirrors, roof, tailgate, ...) make navigating tight spaces tonight in a white-out level snow storm possible. 500 mile range? LOL

Topic of RANGE. I have a feeling range is going to suffer now that I took delivery today of my Lightning and floored it. Yeesh. Brisk. And this in a torrential rain. No drama, all thrust. Impressive beast of a truck.
  25. SmartElectric

    500 mile range? LOL

Frunk access is more important than the slight distance difference to the front/side charge port on the Lightning. Mega-power-frunk!! :-)
  26. SmartElectric

    Lightning vs CyberTruck feature spreadsheet

Regarding steer by wire, it's perhaps not the advantage you might think when towing or otherwise negotiating close spaces at low speeds. Specifically, when towing, the slower rack of the Lightning made highway speed lane changes and curve negotiation predictable.

    Lightning vs CyberTruck feature spreadsheet

For me, hands free without nags reduces stress considerably, making the 8+ hours I drove on the major 401 highway in Ontario Canada last year a relaxing experience. Plus the cabin is sooo quiet on the Lightning.

Southern Ontario Canada. Separate dealers all competing with each other. Ford corporate is giving $10K to get the 2023's off lots to make room for 2024 model year which had a stop production for many weeks, so the 2023 discounts are happening now instead of 3 months ago. Dealers are then...

Ford says owners can start using superchargers today (Feb 29)

Here in Ontario Canada, the vast majority of supercharger sites in urban areas are V2. V3 roll out has been to fill in highway routes. When I added the Ford Lightning to our Tesla app, the site list shows a few 50 km to 100 km away, whereas when I select for our Model S, there are a dozen...

    500 mile range? LOL

I recently did a towing capability (range, lbs) per dollar comparison of my options here in Canada (limited Rivian, Cybertruck or Chevy options). Spec'd a Model Y, Model X and Ford Lightning. Sat in a Cybertruck. Positive on the exterior (except for the hands prints and plastic trim that...

Out of Spec doing a Cybertruck vs. R1T vs. Lightning vs. Silverado EV cross country race. Who wins?

The charge curve of 150 kW deep into the pack SOC is interesting, and unique, whereas every other truck had high peaks and then dropped rapidly throughout the charge. It's clear the Lightning is the slowest on long road trips. But the price for comfort/storage/performance is compelling if...

Out of Spec doing a Cybertruck vs. R1T vs. Lightning vs. Silverado EV cross country race. Who wins?

The road trip videos I watched and the F150 Lightning forum posts I read convinced me to rent a Lightning last summer and tow a 7500 lb trailer around Prince Edward County Ontario Canada (home of "Sandbanks" provincial park, a gem!) for a week. That experience completely matched what I watched...

    Engine Braking with Full Battery?

FYI regarding Tesla's strategy for regenerative braking at 100% state of charge (SOC = reported on dash). Our 2013 Model S had zero/no regenerative braking when charged full UNTIL a firmware update in 2021 lowered the maximum range, ie, reduced available kWh of capacity at 100% reported SOC...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This is not even remotely true in Ontario Canada. I've owned 5 (!) EV's and all retained value better than any of the 10 gas cars I've owned. And against your point, our 2013 Tesla has retained value well, but NOT any better than our non-Tesla EV's, in fact the 2018 Hyundai Ioniq EV is worth...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Road trip charging is a big deal for some number of owners. We've owned a 2018 Ioniq with CCS and only DC charged it once to test it out! Whereas our Tesla S has been supercharged hundreds of times. One of these cars is exclusively driven in the city. The Lightning was my reservation to...

Supercharging Speeds: Who, what, where, why, and when

Correct. A-pack, the original battery specification for the Model S early production. Limited to 90 kW maximum supercharging rate, and kW = 120-SOC% charge curve. Tesla improved the maximum and charge curve starting with the B spec packs later in 2013, and interestingly, when Tesla...
