What do you think the cause of the difference is?

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I read it as all 2024 models must use the new tests.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Speculation: Why the Model S LR range remained the same and the Plaid dropped. They now have to test different configurations and average the results. The plaid mode keeps the battery in ideal state. This heats up the battery and cools the battery.

    Installation of Auto Pilot hardware

I wish it was true, that would be awesome! But... I remember a lot of research about the feasibility of doing such an upgrade and it just didn't work. The cost was about $20K in parts. From my memory... Entirely new braking system, entirely new steering system, new windshield. Multiple wiring...

New P90D does 1/4 mile in 10.8 and 0-60 in 2.8s. Question: Does P85D get any love?

I'm agreeing with you. That calculator takes into consideration drive train losses and kind of indirectly validates what I was trying to say.

New P90D does 1/4 mile in 10.8 and 0-60 in 2.8s. Question: Does P85D get any love?

I'm actually pretty happy with the situation. No we aren't getting the 691HP which is the rating of the combined motors. What we did get was better than the advertised performance. I'm just glad they went to the trouble to offer the ludicrous upgrade for existing P85D owners at a discount...

    P85D (pre/post April) ride performance

I'm surprised this is the first I've heard of the removal of the high performance suspension. I wonder why Tesla has such a problem communicating? It almost seems like it is on purpose... I guess I lucked out with my February P85D. I managed to get the plus suspension, staggered wheels, next...

    Firmware 6.1

Version 6.1 (2.2.167) I just upgraded. It looks like a bug fix release. However torque sleep was also just a .xxx point release. I thought I'd make a thread so we can keep all of the observations together. I'll post here later after a drive... Edit: Thread moved...

    VisibleTesla

I downloaded the source and built it. I ran the current version 0.50.04. So far things seem to be working for me. This includes the logging which is probably the problem area with the server throttling. @jpasqua Nice work!

Rumor: P85D firmware update to increase 0-60 performance to 2.8s

"Hardware upgrades" changed to "Service Related Hardware upgrades"

I asked at the Denver SC. You are just prepaying for the $600 annual service. You don't get anything extra other than a discount of $125 per visit (4x$125 = $500 off). The service center receives the same $600 for accounting purposes whether you prepay or not. If you prepay the $600 comes...

    Charging Reduction rather Quickly??

No it does not sound normal as you described it. But I think it can be explained away. There are two ways of measuring range rated 100% (265) and ideal (300) . The first thing to check would be if you are in ideal or rated. Perhaps it was switched (IIRC Settings, Measurements & units), it will...

New Blog: Driving Range for Model S Family....

I'm not sure it is that simple. If it was we probably would have seen it already. The added strain of driving the gears and free wheeling motor from the other motor through the road is probably not ideal from an efficiency perspective. Knowing just enough about ac induction motors to sound...

I'm curious if anyone knows what "Torque Sleep" does exactly.

New Blog: Driving Range for Model S Family....

+1 I just wish Tesla communicated this earlier. It is relieving to have it all cleared up.

P85D range and highway battery performance

I'm not out to prove anything. I'm really trying to understand the EPA rating. Cars are reportedly using more power. Elon tweeted there will be a fix in the form of a "Normal" mode that will be more efficient. Did they test with an unreleased "Normal" mode to achieve 89MPGe? It does not sound...

P85D range and highway battery performance

My best guess as to what happened with the P85D range. Tesla originally tested the Model S in 2012 before the J1634 amendment which required the recommended charge level for the EPA range calculations. Model S EPA range is 265. This is very well documented both cause and effect with the Nissan...

P85D range and highway battery performance

You say my simple math doesn't work, but it does. Those numbers don't add up, the mix of city / highway is irrelevant. 21" tires are irrelevant. The final MPGe needs to be 81 to get to 242 at 100% battery cycle. It isn't. Is there actually some source that confirms that Tesla upped the reserve...

P85D range and highway battery performance

Here is the article on the P85D I quoted. 2014 Tesla Model S P85D: First Drive Of All-Electric AWD Performance Sedan (Page 3) And the one on the Nissan Leaf 2014 Nissan Leaf Electric Car: 84-Mile Range, RearView Monitor Standard I'm not convinced that the P85D doesn't actually have worse...

P85D range and highway battery performance

interesting info in this article. 2014 Tesla Model S P85D: First Drive Of All-Electric AWD Performance Sedan... "But this lower number is due solely to an odd new EPA procedure that slaps a 10-percent range penalty on any electric car that has driver-adjustable charge settings. (Don’t...

First thoughts on P85D acceleration, day 1

I just drove a P85D at the Park Meadows mall location in Colorado. I have a September (no sensors) P85+. I have a P85D on order (February delivery). The car I drove had the next gen seats in the front. Standard seats in the rear. It was cold, wet and snowing. Wet to light snow accumulation...

Help me remember previous P+ pricing (comparison to P85D)

Here is my sticker from September 19th. I went through all the calculations and ordered a P85D. Original Sticker $132,170, Same car (minus the wall charger I'm keeping) P85D $137,570 Where you put the wall charger in these calculations matters and it is now $500 cheaper. Difference in cost...
