    UK Aug 23 Insurance Recommendations

Try Adrian Flux, if that fails try Googling "young driver performance car specialist" or somesuch. I'm not surprised you're struggling. I tried adding a 20yr old son to our EV insurance a while back and the quoted monthly insurance premium jumped by an insane margin

M3 LR Nearly New - Residual Values

No, if it's worth more than £10896 at 4yrs you're better off than you would be on contract hire. On contract hire you pay 48x £664 ( £31872) and have no equity. On HP you've paid £28512. You've got £14256 left to pay, but you've spent £3360 less than the contract hire example above, So...

M3 LR Nearly New - Residual Values

Looking at the SR+RWD, if you take a new one on a contract hire basis, you can rent for 4yrs at £664 per month. That's £31872 spent just to hire. Or you can buy interest free on HP over 6yrs at £594 per month. 4yrs in you've spent £3360 less, and what you've got parked on your drive has to be...

Well I've just had the best drive of my life!

Funnily enough I've just had a 50 mile wazz around country roads in the 20 yr old Merc SLK 320 that I bought as a stop gap when Tesla let me down on their inventory sale. It's the most enjoyable drive I've had in years and years. Probably best for me to not to talk about economy though. :)

M3 LR Nearly New - Residual Values

I sold the old Leaf privately for £6k. The buyer got a good deal, saving £1500 or so on the best dealers' prices. At that point in time WBAC were offering £3k. I personally won't take that much of a hit for the sake of an easy life.

M3 LR Nearly New - Residual Values

You have to realise that WBAC are selling into the trade and need to factor in a margin of their own. The trade is up against Tesla selling discounted brand new ones with 0%apr. So the valuation is there because it has to be £10k below rrp to have any chance of a reseller moving them on their...

    Why so few models?

McDonalds and Nandos are successful because they focus on doing one thing well and keeping it simple. I'm guessing Tesla like to work on the same principle. In time they'll almost certainly rock up with a small hatchback, then an Aygo-sized city car, and they'll likely carve themselves a...

    PCP

As the post above demonstrates, tyre rotation is an American thing. We don't tend to bother so much. All it really does is balance the wear so all your tyres need renewing at the same time. When you take the car back all they'll worry about is whether the tyres are legal and inflated. As for...

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

I'm talking about a scenario where a buyer has decided they're going to buy a new Tesla, and am simply drawing attention to what a good deal 0% apr is. Especially in times of high inflation and elevated interest rates. Obviously if we're talking about someone with an old banger and they're...

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

Well obviously you pay future instalments on an ongoing basis. You don't need to have that money upfront, it can be yet to be earnt. The point remains, if you've equity in your current car, sell it and let that capital work for you whilst taking advantage of an interest free loan.

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

I came up with the £40k in an ISA idea a few pages back - but said "if my wife and I put £20k each in." The point was to illustrate the value in the 0% apr deal, and show how much better it is than buying outright on day 1. If you've got the cash to buy outright, don't. Let your cash work for...

That was my rationale. 0% apr makes the LR £9k cheaper than it's meant to be,

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

The perception of the tanking is exacerbated by the artificially sustained high prices during the post-covid semiconductor shortage. Without that we'd have seen more normal depreciation for EVs. We paid £10k for a 3yr old Leaf. 3 years and 30,000 miles later WBAC reckoned it was worth £9k, 6...

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

£6k miles? I'd keep the current car, as if you're feeling the urge to cement such a heavy loss (£5 per mile?) after 3yrs, the same will likely happen again in 2026, and you'll find yourself trapped in a cycle of giving Tesla £10k of your net income per annum ad infinitum. I can only justify...

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

I buckled. I ordered a LR RWD yesterday. A blue one with a tow bar. I don't especially need a tow bar, but I figured I'll be keeping this car for an eternity and want to be prepared for an imaginary trailer tent which I presently have no intention of ever buying. My rationale is I can...

    M3 LR RWD UK!

Not having LFP is fine, as I'd normally charge to 80% and have plenty of range. On the very occasional day where I have a 450 round trip I'd go to 100% and have to put in a minimal amount from a supercharger on the way back. The advisor went on to say you get one month's premium connectivity...

    M3 LR RWD UK!

There's conflicting info out there. I'm in chat trying to get clarity from Tesla. Given there's 0% apr on these, still, and 9% on the standard range RWD, it's moot. This is the one to go for regardless.

    Just ordered, expected lead time?

I'm surprised EAP makes that much of a difference. I assumed they could turn it on and off in pretty much the same way Sky add and remove channels from your package.

Tesla Offering 0% APR on Model 3

Perhaps. I guess my fear was I'd already missed the last of the Model 3s. Looking again at the inventory, it's not just the performance model with 0%, the LR RWD is still 0% too, so if I buckle imminently that;s the one I'd go for.

Tesla Offering 0% APR on Model 3

It's looking like the 0% deal has been pulled after a month. I'm kicking myself now, because I'm left wondering whether there'll be another opportunity for a new one to be so affordable. When does the quarter end?

    [UK]Advice on buying a Model S built 2016-2018

    New Owner incoming

Can you offset the purchase price against tax in entirety in one year when you pay by PCP? My understanding was it had to be bought outright, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong about something. It seems odd though that you can spend £3500 between now and next April on a few...

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

I'm sat here having recently sold a 2016 Leaf. A USS-less M3 will be a big step up from anything I'm used to. Ordinarily I'd buy second hand, as I like to think the pain of heavy depreciation is for other people, but in this instance the numbers really do seem to be leaning in my favour.

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

Have I got this right? It seems to good to be true... Option 1: You buy a New M3 for £40470 its cost is that, £40470. Option 2: Wife and I each put £20k in a 4yr fixed rate ISA at 5.5%. We buy a new M3, £1200 down on PCP, paying £499 per month for 48 months. Come 2027 we cash out the ISA...

    [UK] ‘Highland’ order discussion

Funnily enough I hadn't put quite so much thought into the numbers, but I'd been thinking along similar lines. You can get 5.85% interest on a 4yr bond. The money earned would be taxable, but as a business owner a decent chunk of the money car had depreciated by should be tax deductable too...

M3 Pre-facelift vs post refresh. Which is the smart used buy now?

It's a tough call to me, as 2021 cars are few and far between sub £30k, then you'll likely be able to get a brand new one for ~£38k or so at the end of the quarter push with 0% interest. Obvs no USS, but more warranty and possibly looking at a lower total overall cost of ownership in 3 yrs time?

    Tesla Price Reductions

I've seen you share this view before, and but your logic seems very flawed to me. It works on the premise that you're locked into Tesla for life, and relying on the idea that the next one will be cheaper allows you to be burnt horribly on the one you've already got kind of misses the point that...

UK: buying from Tesla used inventory.

Now that I've thrown in the towel, it's hard to find the value I had... A car with warranty and EAP in red for £23,400 - it's going to take a while to find another one of those. It doesn't really matter, because the frustration experienced in this process has dampened the yearning to opt in...

Yes, it's at Rockingham, but I'd not start making advanced plans if I were you. When I bought mine it was in Corby, but I was told delivery (which is actually collection) would occur in Edinburgh, They then told me this would be the NEC. They then said North London. They then said they'd...

This is like the circle of life. I pass on the mantle of seemingly eternal frustration to Phil! Welcome to the fold. I'd just wait and see. I'd like to hope that I'm an outlier, whilst I was strung along for nearly 3 months during that time most others got their cars, and many were delighted...

    Tesla Price Reductions

Why buy a new one? Well, I'm in a position where I can offset the complete purchase price against income, so £40k spent effectively takes £24k out of the business in the medium term. With that in mind, why would I buy a second hand one? I nearly did, mind... I reserved one from used...

^ Keep an eye on used inventory. If a red SR+ with 46k miles turns up @ £23.4k it's still a lot of car for the money. I've just lost confidence in the brand and the yearning has turned into borderline contempt.

Trade in Values from Tesla (& other dealers)

Trade in Values from Tesla (& other dealers)

It's not a Tesla problem.... EVs in general have taken a bashing in residuals. It's no surprise given the way energy bills have been rising. I've checked my Gmail for our Nissan Leaf. Last October: And today? You're looking at a 62.5% drop in offer price in just over six months. From...
