Add me to the list of PTC failures…

How can someone save $30K in fuel with just 97K miles. A typical ICE 25 MPG fuel cost for 97K miles is $11,640 assuming gas price at $3. Your tesla has to generate fuel money to reach $30K saving. Maybe you mean $3K. But it also sounds too low over 97K miles.

What can I do after picking.

is this a plaid? A brand new MX is 74K after tax credit. As far as those issues, your only luck is to ask them if they will fix it under warranty. Should do a thorough inspection before finalizing the purchase.

Buying a used Tesla and I have concerns.

Huh, a filthy 2021 with 25K miles still cost $33K. There was an inventory sale last month with $5K off. Combine with tax credit. A new MYLR can be had around $38K.

Tiny paint scratch on my new model Y- can Tesla help with repair?

If you got too much money in the pocket. You can always share them with me you know.

Please! Talk me out of MX Plaid !!!

How does a guy go from a 02 honda odyssey to a MXP. Man, that jump is not just a little. Only thing I want to point out is that, MXP is just a quicker 0-60 family hauling daily. You probably will get tired of the launch after a while. If you want something special, fun and value holding. I would...

My on going battle regarding my purchase of a used 2013 Model S P85+

I think most of these 11 year old model S buyers are only looking for the "show". Want to be viewed as someone driving a $100K car. Whether the motor inside is as small as bicycle probably does not matter as much. This 2013 Model S does bring back memories. There was one dude I know that bought...

Car is dead after unplugging at supercharger

Free SC is definitely attractive if you use it a lot. I think that transfer was a good opportunity to upgrade. Anyway, for me, it is more about moving on to a new toy rather than saving $$. I don't stick to same cars. I know some people keep leasing the same model every 3 years. Which is just...

My on going battle regarding my purchase of a used 2013 Model S P85+

the seller told OP the motor was swapped with the "standard motor". Just unfortunate that OP did not really understand what it meant. I probably wouldn't either. But my point is, this car is an 11 year old beater. not the $120K MSRP Model S it once was. Well, maybe the repair bill will reflect...

Car is dead after unplugging at supercharger

He just replaced the battery for $23K and it only lasted 33K miles. I would be very pissed. But then again, I never drive my car past 100K miles. I sell it and move on to a new toy. So can't really relate. I don't think it is wrong to keep repairing old cars, just a choice I would not make. But...

Car is dead after unplugging at supercharger

You are going to sink more money into that money pit? How much have you spent so far? You are becoming the prime example of the Anti EV people's laughing stock excuse. Replace battery after another battery past warranty. What if the front motor goes next? Or other old components? I would just...

My on going battle regarding my purchase of a used 2013 Model S P85+

it is a 2013. 11 year old car. Who cares if the motor is not as powerful. If it works just drive it until it breaks. The car is worth what? $10K? You may run into a major repair soon and scrap it.

    Charging to 80% v 100%

I vote for charging to 90%. Problem solved.

I lost to Tesla in Arbitration

if vibration/rattle noise warrants a warranty buyback, I think tesla will go bankrupt. You will have better luck trying to fix it yourself than their lazy employers. if you can't handle the noise anymore, just take a financial hit and trade in for a different brand.

Tesla settles with Apple engineer’s family who said Autopilot caused his fatal crash

Nothing beats the cash as always. Tesla probably want to keep a low profile. Especially with FSD on wide open free trial recently. I wonder how much is the settlement amount.

    Model Y Rear-ended

The repair has to be done at tesla certified shop. You can file the claim directly with third party insurance or with your own insurance. The police report will have their insurance code number that you can identify. With the footage it should be an open and shut case. Remember to ask for...

Am I crazy? Model Y without home charger...

I simply see no advantage other than the driving characteristic of EV. Instant torque and regen brake is nice. The cost in fuel is nearly identical if you supercharge. Insurance will be similar to other $40-$50K cars. Maintenance saved over a Nissan counter part probably will get offset by the...

Good Riddance: The '22 Tesla Model S Plaid Saga Comes to an End

What is your new car gonna be? Used Taycans are at a reasonable price.

What makes a car "fun to drive"?

I think it is more about the weight. Used to own a Z4. Take the car to a curvy mountain road. Take another real sports car like Porsche 718, BMW Z4/ Supra, Mazda miata, C8 corvette, etc. Push them to your limit. Then you will know. If there is a solid state battery to reduce the EV car weight...

Cost of full paint job in 2024?

you are going to spend $5K-$10K or more, on a 10 year old EV that will have a value around $10K or less. Spend more than half the value of car just to make paint shiny? That simply makes absolute 0 logic.

    New tesla owner

That post actually is a good read although it turned into meaningless rage and accusations. One big difference though. That 2015 Model S is around $60K during 2022 price peak. That is a big price purchase. If I purchased a terrible car that needs excessive service. I would've just sell the turd...

Enjoyed Model Y 3 years now, going to be out of warranty soon, and issues are starting to happen left and right. How is everyone else's experience?

Extended warranty for a tesla? Nah. Should just set a side that cash. Warranty for a Range Rover? Now that requires some thoughts. But then again, RR warranty costs $5K-$7K. And the manufacturer only offer up to 7 year 100K miles. And past 100K is usually when you need your warranty in ICE cars...

Third battery has failed - need advice

3 HV battery failure, 5 LV battery replacement. Probably some hidden electrical problem. I would ditch the car and move on. A clean 18 model S 100D W/ 55K miles costs $32K. I wouldn't put out $17K on a 2015 with 150K miles. Suspension and motor is probably the next ticket item coming. 2018...

applied a bit too much ceramic coating

If it is not cured, apply some new coating on it to wet the surface and wipe. If it is cured, you need to use dual action polisher to buff it off with polishing compound. You need one for paint correction anyway. Always inspect your car surface under the sun light after you are done. Or go over...

Tesla build quality and a tale of caution

I know the photos are of the repainted car. I am saying I probably would've accepted the 2nd VIN and call it a day. I would never try to repaint a car body work unless it was damaged in an accident. Too many variables. The repaint may be worse. There may be color mismatch between panels. The...

Tesla build quality and a tale of caution

Uh, I would've avoided a repaint at all cost. Although US relies on Carfax mostly. Some experienced inspector uses paint meter to measure body work paint thickness to determine if it has been repaired (Accident alarm). Not to mention the risk of terrible work making it worse. The second VIN...

    2023 Porsche Taycan 4S review

Personally I would not be worried too much regarding early model issues. Horror stories are every where. Even tesla has it. Most issues should have already surfaced after 3 years. Certified preowned offers extra warranty. Extended warranty is also available at cost. The repair is very expensive...

    2023 Porsche Taycan 4S review

a 2020/2021 low mile 4S is around $70K. MSRP around $130K. I think it is a decent deal. The Porsche dealer charge bogus over priced maintenance fees though. As always.

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

I know level 1 works if you drive less than 40. But if you drive that little, even a V8 does not cost much more in fuel annually. Not to mention hybrid options exist that can do 45 MPG. Level 1 is way too slow to charge if you ask me. Any emergency or unplanned trip you need to DC. Just feels...

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

I don't get it. Running an extension cord to curb with level 1 charging? If you drive that little, why even bother. Just get a gas car. And I bet the parking is not assigned. So you cannot install a permanent post there. Someone else would just park there. Why go through all these troubles to...

    Angela Chao accident

That is why you need one of those emergency seat belt cutter and window hammer tool. In case the seat belt and door gets stuck. You cut it, smash it, and get out. Sometimes you only get 60 secs before fire or water kills you.

Not near me. We need a lot more of those 3rd party shops around.
  34. J

Vendor Tesla Model S Battery Extended Service Plans from 057 Technology

Not talking about battery service only. I doubt one shop can sustain relying on working on that alone. Talking about every single repair of the tesla car. From suspension to cable connections to MCU screens. I don't know if it is actually profitable or not. But I sure hope there is an honest...

used p100ds now are dirt cheap. What's going on?

most people worry about battery because its the biggest ticket item, but its the other stuff you need to watch out for. suspension $2K, ac system $4K, connectors, valves $1K. Search around and see what people pay for various things. And it isn't cheap. Just pray luck is on your side.

Vendor Tesla Model S Battery Extended Service Plans from 057 Technology

what was he working on with his shop? Some secret EV development? I think he can make mad money simply doing 3rd party tesla repairs. Tesla service center charges mad money. Vendor Tesla Model S Battery Extended Service Plans from 057 Technology

Have you guys not received those scammy extended warranty calls. This is a lucrative but risky business. That is why many do not trust 3rd party provider. Anyway, dude sold the company and left. First Time Tesla Owner - 2024 MYLR Ultra Red - Look Differences Between Pickup Day vs Ceramic Coating (With Pics)

Seriously? Your buddy charged you $450 to ceramic coat it with CQuartz UK3.0? Did he do a full paint correction? Are you sure he is your "buddy"? You could buy the Cquartz UK3.0 for $60 online. I used it for a few years until I switched to Adam's graphene ceramic coating. The CQUK3.0 is a very...

used p100ds now are dirt cheap. What's going on?

a new model S LR is 75K right now. I know it is not exactly apple to apple. But for everyday daily user, I doubt the small difference in 0-60 matters much. So for a 7 year old near 100K miles and expired warranty. The price seems kinda meh to me. Any repair emerges is in the thousands.

Musk said Tesla cars would rise in value, but the opposite happened

Of course Musk has to oversell the FSD. That was the whole thing about Tesla branding back then. High tech, futuristic, minimalist, drives it self, saving the planet, don't even need steering wheels soon, etc. With the dirt cheap interior, you need something else to standout and compete with the...

Failed (2nd) battery 700 miles out of warranty.

Poor OP, it is just purely bad luck if you ask me. With 2 battery packs failing. Some other components may not run properly and cause battery to fail prematurely. It is just terribly bad luck to happen right after your warranty is 700m past the cut off line. The problems before total failure is...

    advice on extended warranty

Your annual mileage is 7000 based on history. The extended care is another 3 year which equal to 21000 additional miles. Makes the car 63K in mileage at the end of the extended warranty. I would say 63K is still in the safe zone side. Not really worth it unless you are really unlucky to have to...

    Car hit while parked.

The other side did not realize they hit the worst car possible. If it was a regular car it will probably be fine with a $1-$2K repaint. But with a tesla, I would say $5K- $10K depending on how dirty the shop is.

Strongly considering a lease vs buy (MYP). Pros/Cons?

There is only one reason why one would choose lease over purchase. You have money and you want to drive new cars every few years. Everything else does not matter much. Your monthly payment is the depreciation of the car. And it usually is very hefty. I love buying low mile off lease luxury...

Need Advice on allstate declaring my bumper/panel damage totaled!

Uh, why would anyone not prefer the total pay out. The total payout is supposed to be market price. Which means you can use that $$ to buy a similar car. I guess you would lose your FUSC. Not sure how important it is to you. It sure beats waiting months for the car to be repaired. Honestly...

Discussion: Resale values - depreciation -- Time to buy resale or wait?

It is all about supply and demand. I would say the used Y and X price will get close to the typical industry depreciation curve of similar priced cars. If you are expecting a slightly used pristine Y to drop to $20K. that is not going to happen. if you actually need the car, it is a good time to...

need some advice/guidance on Tesla MYLR repair

To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade?

OP, I don't want to talk about return of investment. Let's stick to spending money on cars. I just think you are wasting your money wrong. Instead of taking double hits on the trade in and new car off the lot depreciation for a pretty much same car. How about save that $7.6K. Set the money...

    Tesla Model 3 Accident

I guess the driver is in the same household and not added to the driver list. So it does not fall under permissive use. I am not sure how much of a premium difference will be for an additional driver. Should get a quote from the agent and see if it is worth it. I would expect the damage to be...
