Tesla service & maintenance: the biggest difference with legacy car makers?

My car has been flawless (Shanghai build), except the rear view mirror was never tightened enough. Tesla Service came to my house and fixed it in 3 minutes. Actually, the Service at my GM dealer was always perfect too. I felt sad leaving them to switch to Tesla and still do.

Model 3 RWD 2022 Drive Unit Failure Pyrofuse

At least your car has a "Bonnet and Boot". All I got was a "Frunk and a Trunk".😉

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

Yes, it will be in a huge yard in Vaughn where the train drops it off. The truck then picks it up to be dropped at or near the Tesla dealer. It will not be a fast process.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

Looking at the delivery photos some have posted here which show Model Ys parked nearby, I can see the checkered flag pattern on the tires which mean Kumho tires. That means MYs must be coming from China again instead of the U.S. Must have been shipped with the M3s.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

Guys, don't be worried about the odometer reading on the paperwork. 30 kms or more is just Tesla covering their bases. All car dealers do this from what I've seen. Some list 90 kms. The kms on a new Shanghai Tesla should be about 12. A factory rep said they are 10 kms from the port. The other 2...

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

That's where I got mine. I bought two pucks and two cheap jacks because I like the idea of jacking one side of the car evenly during tire rotations.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

I can assure you that at least on the Model Y from China, the car arrives with the PPF thrown inside. The service center installs it before delivery. Not sure about the Model 3.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

I'm not surprised that the Shanghai Model 3 RWD comes with the adapter, carpeted mats and front mud flaps. It probably includes PPF ahead of the rear wheels too. The Shanghai Model Y RWD has all those things plus the full Premium interior and top sound system. Strangely, no fog lamps though...

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

If you think it's worth your time, you might want to look through these postings from when Shanghai Model Ys were shipped. It might give you some clues on the logistics across Canada...

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

Only the VIN number should be different. The exception will be the Model Y. The U.S. cars still have single pane glass on the rear doors. The cars from China have double glass on all doors.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

The people who prepare and deliver our cars will always tell you the Shanghai cars are the good ones. Owners generally call them flawless. That said, the Fremont cars now seem very good. I would take either one.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

If you want your VIN or to know where your car is, maybe I can help. I was one of the first to get a Shanghai car, (Model Y) last summer. Your SA has access to your info on their laptop through the "Tesla OS Transport Management System " Your ViN is there. They can tell you if your car is on...

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

I'm pretty sure the reason is because the ship picks up other brands at various countries, some of which are for the U.S. market and then drops them at a U.S. port before continuing to Canada. That's what usually happens anyway.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of VINs everyone in Canada gets, China, U.S. or a random mix of both. So far, all the new M3s I've seen sent to dealers for display and test drives are U.S. made. Also, many or possibly all the MYs are now coming from the U.S. despite 6 months of...

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

Well, I don't know. That will be interesting to see. Is there a way to tell a new SR from an LR at a glance? Do they put "Dual Motor " badges on the new LR?

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

Tesla Oakville now has another new M3 in their showroom. A blue one. Those test drive and display cars are Fremont cars unlike the Shanghai cars that will be arriving for everyone here.

That's what happened with the MY from Shanghai. The RWD cars were shipped first.

TV Show Recommendation: "Electric Cars - Pros and Cons" (PBS)

Yes, both would be best and let the buyers decide. Smaller batteries work great in my Southern Ontario urban environment. Maybe not so much in vast rural regions.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

I recall when they first started shipping Teslas from China. The west coast BC buyers near the ports obviously got theirs first. Then the Quebec folks were next (probably due to the train). The Ontario crowd was soon after that. Try to enjoy the wait and the tracking. It's one of the most fun...

TV Show Recommendation: "Electric Cars - Pros and Cons" (PBS)

Those videos were great, thanks for posting them. I especially enjoyed the discussion about smaller batteries. It's been my thought for some time now that range anxiety is a fading problem as numbers of charging stations and EV knowledge increase. I wanted the big Model Y and was thrilled the...

Tesla shipping U.S. built cars to Canada again.

It appears the reason Canada is now getting U.S. built Model Ys is a mystery again. It is now confirmed that Model 3 Highland cars are coming from China. Also, the configurator still shows the same range and performance numbers for the MY RWD cars as before which means they will be Shanghai cars.

So your VIN starts with "LRW"? If so, then guaranteed it's coming from China.

Tesla shipping U.S. built cars to Canada again.

A U.S. slowdown combined with the shipping issues are likely the reasons then. I was told at the dealer that Teslas from China still have much better quality than the U.S. cars. I opened a U.S. MY to see something and the doors seemed a bit clunky to open and close compared to the precision...

Tesla shipping U.S. built cars to Canada again.

Ah yes, the ships. That must be it. We don't want the Houthis blasting shiploads of Teslas.

Tesla shipping U.S. built cars to Canada again.

I used to see a virtual parade of car carriers loaded with MY and M3 cars coming from the U.S. to Ontario via Hwy 401. That suddenly came to a standstill when the Shanghai cars began arriving from west coast shipping docks by rail. Now, I'm seeing the truckloads again. I went to the Tesla...

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

Right on. I'm in Hamilton as well. They also had a Model Y in Ultra Red. What a colour. I probably would have chosen it if it was available when I bought mine.

Model 3 Highland (Canada) Waiting room

I was at a traffic light near Tesla Oakville today and was very surprised to see a Model 3 Highland. Of course I went there to find out. They just got two of them for test drives, one black and one grey. I didn't drive one but I did sit in one.

    Project Redwood (Compact Crossover)

I want one for my wife. It doesn't matter how well equipped it is. It's a Tesla, so I know it will be good enough. What matters to me is that they make it considerably smaller than a 3 or Y and stick to the $25,000 price. An LFP battery would help clinch the deal.

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Last weekend, I did a 1300 km road trip in Canada with my Model Y RWD with LFP battery. It was great. Consumption was about 250 wh/km. Summer is 150 wh/km. The car preconditioned most of the trip. Supercharging started at 147 kw at a V2 charger when warm and a full 175 kw at a V3 charger. When...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

The Chicago reports reminds me of most news media disaster coverage. Tornado, earthquake, flood etc. They zoom in on two demolished houses while ignoring the paradise surrounding them. Two dozen rental or new owner Tesla cars while thousands of other Teslas happily drive by, some easily...

I saw a Cybertruck up close yesterday. It looked good. Now everytime I see my fridge or anything stainless, I think about that truck.

THINGS I DON'T MISS ABOUT GAS VEHICLES

Hard to say now but, as late as 2022, you could still get a Chevy Spark LS with key lock ignition, manual door locks, hand crank windows, no AC and the optional manual transmission. The price was only $9000 even here in Canada.

Charged with a Cybertruck: better looking in person!

When I ordered my Model Y just last spring, it was $250 non refundable which was fine because I knew for sure I would take the car. I recently ordered a Cybertruck. The deposit was $150 fully refundable which matters because I've yet to see one in person and mine could be years away. I'm more...

    Model Y heating failure

Remember that as good as your car is, it's still built at speed on an assembly line and mistakes can happen to some cars. The difference now is that your HVAC system has had some careful, dedicated attention. It should be perfect now.

Charged with a Cybertruck: better looking in person!

It's funny to see something so different in the familiar line of cars at the Superchargers as if it's just another Tesla but, that's what it is and will be a normal sight soon enough.

THINGS I DON'T MISS ABOUT GAS VEHICLES

I don't miss: Noisy and fume spewing remote starts on my diesel truck. Shuts off in 10 minutes and have to start it again and you get another 10 minutes and no more after that. Seat heaters turn on together on low only. I do like: Tesla's clean, quiet remote starts for as long as I want with...

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

Great review. I've had my Model Y six months as well. It's an amazing car. So much better than I thought it would be. What I like best is the climate control system. It is beyond perfect. Always the ideal conditions at all times. I agree that the auto wipers are awful. It's the only complaint I...

How soon will BYD be the largest BEV manufacturer in the world?

I saw this car at a truckstop in Canada today. I assume it's one of the China built cars. It looks like Tesla is trying harder to compete with the BYD Seagull.

Model Y RWD now available. RWD+AWD now eligible for iZEV Rebate

Today I saw a sad sight. I drove to a parking lot in Mississauga where they have EV charging. The lot was nearly empty except for a near new, Model Y RWD that had been charging for 7 hours. The side window was cracked and a mark on the trim suggests someone tried unsuccessfully to pry it open...

Model Y RWD now available. RWD+AWD now eligible for iZEV Rebate

OK, that makes sense. I'm going to find a deserted spot and try to set mine off (without smashing a window). BTW, you may recall earlier that the Tesla site listed our cars as weighing 2258 kgs which we figured had to be wrong. They later revised it to 1909 kgs which is 4208 lbs. I got a chance...

    Why 42 PSI ?

Reading these latest postings, I think I will give 38 psi another try. I don't see anyone complaining about that pressure. It's not that I can't handle 42 psi. What I worry about are things rattling or getting loose due to the harsher ride. Those problems are difficult or impossible to fix.
  46. 4

    Why 42 PSI ?

I did try out 38 psi today. The ride was still firm but the worst harshness was gone. No more minor rattles from road imperfections. Handling was still very good but not as responsive as before. I didn't test consumption, but it felt like it might degrade due to the tires working harder. It the...

    Why 42 PSI ?

I've had a few Mercedes cars and have seen the label that shows different tire pressures depending on the quantity of passengers and luggage on board. You also make a good point about the UHP tires. Perhaps I won't see any meaningful improvement by adjusting pressure with these tires. I am going...

Model Y RWD now available. RWD+AWD now eligible for iZEV Rebate

I just got another free month of "Premium Connectivity " Did anyone else get this? I let mine expire but then renewed it the next day. Then hours later, I canceled yesterday for various reasons. Tonight it's back. Are they trying to lure me or does this happen to everybody?
  49. 4

    Why 42 PSI ?

I just got a new Model Y Standard Range. It has 19" Pirelli Scorpions. I find the ride way too harsh on even the smallest road imperfections, especially in my city where there has been zero road maintenance for 30 years. I figure the 42 psi number was chosen for EPA range testing and is...

Model Y RWD now available. RWD+AWD now eligible for iZEV Rebate

Has anyone here tried towing yet with their trailer package equipped MY RWD? I did last night. I bought the proper tools to remove the cover which was very easy. The car seems to tow even better than my truck did and is rock stable even during a brief test above140. Of course power consumption...
