Free Trial FSD, What DoYou Think About It?

Utter crap. Works “sorta” OK on well marked freeways. On more rural, windy roads, be highly alert, ready to take over, which is exhausting. How about fixing things like phantom braking first? How about copying what Mercedes does(which is level 3 and FAR BETTER).

    Full Self Driving trial

For someone like me in a rural area with snow, dirt and bright sunlight, even the standard “autopilot”(adaptive speed control) is crap. The FSD beta is more crap. I’d never pay for it.
  3. R

Does everyone use Time of Use Electricity rates?

I am on TOU. I used to pay a little over 5 cents/Kwh at night, but it recently doubled! That, and a particularly onerous summer daytime schedule that now costs 40 cents from 3 p.m. to 9 pm has me wanting to go back on a regular schedule. It’s only a couple cents more than the night time rate! i...

    Route 50 in Nevada

I looked up the CCS chargers along the way and max seems to be 50 kW and iften broken. I always went out 50 to go to Colorado from south of Carson City(pre Tesla)but until Ely has a Supercharger, i80 would be faster and less hassle.

    Range Concerns

Sadly, for me, I needed more ground clearance than the 3 and AWD. So had to pony up some more $ for the Y. I love bargains, and the 3 really is for what you get. So is the Y, compared to other EV AWD SUVs, with the federal rebate.

    Range Concerns

i thought the EPA publishes range according to some manufacturer formula/testing, although they may accept too much hand waving from the manufacturer compared to gas vehicles. Hopefully someone who knows can chime in. i’m not positive it can be litigated, from that standpoint anyway. As to what...

    Range Concerns

I’m a rural driver as well. I stepped up to the long range, but now that I’ve had it, a standard range would have been fine. If they were using LiFeP04 like in the model 3 standard range, I probably would have ordered that, as a 100% charge on those is actually a good thing, unlike the regular...

    HW4 Phantom Braking

Having led product design teams for 40 years, you always bring everything to the table. Too often younger engineers don’t look at existing designs, and older engineers can be stuck on “we’ve always done it that way.” All approaches need to be brainstormed and considered. During recruiting, we...

is there a work around to purchase oem gemini winter tire package from Tesla if MYP owner?

You can go with a ”minus 1” package with 20” wheels, although you need to verify that the bigger performance model brake calipers fit. I would guess no way for “minus 3” or 18” And maybe 19” work. Minus sizing is typically somewhat better for snow tires due to higher profile. Tesla pricing is...

    HW4 Phantom Braking

Tacc I believe it is because Musk doesn’t want his engineers looking at what others do, as it’s “not invented here”. This thinking worked worked in the early days, but they are WAY behind now in FSD now. I think I saw an unbiased review that put 5 or 6 car makers ahead of them. They used to be...

Should I take it in to get the roof glass adjusted?

Too bad they didn’t offer a no glass roof option! We would have been all over it.
  12. R

Should I take it in to get the roof glass adjusted?

Still debating. The reason I’m a DIYer(worked on cars for >50 years!) is I know it’s done right. This repair would entail removing adhesive that’s hard to get to and remove. Well maybe a quality glass place could do a reasonable job. So I won’t likely demand they do it if I’m not going the rack...
  13. R

Should I take it in to get the roof glass adjusted?

Insee some small alignment issues, but this one is the worst and a problem if and only if I choose the roof rack path, even an overpriced Tesla one. The other ones I can live with.
  14. R

Should I take it in to get the roof glass adjusted?

I would likely get a third party rack ((Tesla doesn’t make these, BTW) and install myself. Haven’t decided yet, but I have kayaks and windsurfers, so…. Probably I’ll call my service advisor to discuss.
  15. R

Should I take it in to get the roof glass adjusted?

…Concerned that a roof rack might be more likely to crack it.….” Roof racks only have a small area where you can mount to - a hidden piece of metal under the weatherstripping. Numerous reports of cracked glass. AND I have about 15 days left to correct assembly problems. So hopefully I can here...

Should I take it in to get the roof glass adjusted?

I took delivery about a week ago. Just noticed the roof glass has a gap about twice as big on the drivers vs passenger side. For perspective, my pink fits in one side, my thumb in the other. Concerned that a roof rack might be more likely to crack it. Opinions? Take it in?

Waiting Room for MYLR/MYP : April 2023 orders

FINALLY! Got an update this morning moving delivery to July! Huh? That would have require a reappraisal of the tradein for the second time. Tried to text Tesla, and got a bozo answering every time. Then I got a delivery notification for 4:00 pm tomorrow. Accepted. Then got a “do you want to...

And Rivian falls (to adopt NACS from 2024)

Wouldn’t be that hard, except that the power grid in some of those areas might not have enough capacity for 150-250 kw chargers. On highway 50, the few CCS chargers are 50kw, pretty pathetic.
  19. R

And Rivian falls (to adopt NACS from 2024)

While having more companies jump over to NACS seems great, I see some serious problems: 1. Tesla has more total ports, but fewer locations than CCS. In rural Nevada, that already manifests itself on several highways, where only CCS chargers are available (or slow level 2 chargers). TESLA WOULD...

    Nevada registration MSRP issue

I’ll have to check. Are you in northern or southern Nevada? I’m doing a trade in and expect to pick up in a couple of days, and there is a price and tax based on that. So maybe it’s not the same situation.

Waiting Room for MYLR/MYP : May 2023 orders

It’s all about maximizing sales and profit and/or looking good on end of quarter reports. At some point Tesla WILL have real competition. Then “maybe” they’ll start looking at customer satisfaction as a way to keep sales. My own pet peeve is their “estimated” delivery dates. I don’t mind...

    6/3 or 4/3 on 60amps

There are two types of EV chargers: Those that use plugs, and those that are direct wired. For the Tesla wall charger, it is direct wired and one can just wire 6/2. If doing a portable charger, than I agree that a NEMA 14-50 is better and more versatile.
  25. R

    6/3 or 4/3 on 60amps

I’m an electronics engineer(who has done some home and industrial wiring). NEC code(US) and the Canadian equivalent are really fire codes. As such: 1. Get a permit. 2. FOLLOW THE CODE. 3. Get inspected. 4. Relax, knowing you are covered. The size of the wire is dictated by the breaker size...

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

If you are looking at spares(this thread), then there are links to an Amazon one with good reviews. If looking at tires, there are tire threads
  27. R

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

Probably. I got one when I had a Chevy Volt, but I only used it on long trips. Took up a lot of space relative to the car size.
  28. R

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

I live in a rural area in Nevada. Some of the places I go have NO cell service, and are more likely to be on a rough dirt road, meaning higher flat probability. My use case pretty much requires having a spare, at least for some trips.

Waiting Room for MYLR/MYP : April 2023 orders

Sorry, been away from internet and cell for a few days. First, I am NOT buying wheels and tires. Just trying to outline an option. This is my last post on this topic. I don’t know why you get different results. Second, I posted how to select and order this in an earlier response. Third - you...

Another Panel Gap Issue March 2023 delivery Austin Build

I have a 2020 Subaru Outback I bought new for well under $30K. NO panel gaps. No problems. If a cheap car makers can do it…. It’s difficult if not impossible to determine initial quality from anecdotal evidence. Possibly JDPowers, but if these things are fixed immediately by the service center...

Another Panel Gap Issue March 2023 delivery Austin Build

Tesla is spending a bunch in the redesigns to eliminate parts cost; labor cost reductions are low hanging fruit and cost less Than revamping the production line to save 5 bucks here and there on lower cost parts.ww Likely, Musk isn’t aware of how prevalent fixes at the service centers are.
  35. R

    Any DIY types out there?

Thanks. I probably will leave the wiring off anyway if I only use it for a bike rack. But if I get rid of my truck, I’ll need that for the utility trailer.
  36. R

Another Panel Gap Issue March 2023 delivery Austin Build

It cost more to fix defects after shipment than before. Plus it reduces sales, as public perception of quality decreases. More cost, less revenue. Is Musk listening?

Waiting Room for MYLR/MYP : May 2023 orders

Depends. Not for My Subaru, though. The tax savings cannot be beat for my car, even after they dropped the trade in value by $1000 when a month went by. In fact, Vroom would be the same purchase price as the current Tesla trade-in. But I am pissed about Tesla reducing the trade-in since I...

is there a work around to purchase oem gemini winter tire package from Tesla if MYP owner?

You can just add them when you put the 19” tires and wheels in the cart. They are $480, so I assume they are buying them at retail prices from Tesla and marking them up. I did not check any 20” combinations or more expensive wheels. It was a 2023 P model I entered. Earlier model YP used...

is there a work around to purchase oem gemini winter tire package from Tesla if MYP owner?

If you follow my instructions, you will find SEVERAL 19” packages in this price range. Others, with, say, Michelin X-Ice tires, will be about $350 more. There are many wheels for the Tesla MY3P in the $225 each range and several winter tires with similar pricing, which is what I based it on. Did...

    Any DIY types out there?

As I wait for my model Y to be delivered, I’m a little amazed at how few people on these forums cannot fathom changing or rotating their own tires, putting on a roof rack, or (heaven forbid) installing their own hitch. Most of these people seem to advise other that ALL these things MUST be...

is there a work around to purchase oem gemini winter tire package from Tesla if MYP owner?

EVERY tire wheel combo I have purchased from Tire Rack HAD the tires/wheels And TPMS sensors already installed. Twice I even drove to their Spark warehouse to pick them up. Does Tesla MY not have the ability to register TPMS Sensors from the display console? If not, I wonder how they got DOT...

is there a work around to purchase oem gemini winter tire package from Tesla if MYP owner?

Try tirerack. Enter your vehicle, select winter tire/wheel option. They come installed any balanced, and you can have them ship to a local tire shop or to your house if you wrench. A lot of choices, typically, and you may find a nicer wheel than the Geminis or 20” ones. I personally like more...

    Roof rack

Watch install videos. I too would like easy on/off, but one needs to be careful. I’ve debated buying one and just leaving it on, but there is wind noise. There is a replacement strip that is quieter than the Tesla (or aftermarket ones). Do the search here for more info.

Since many of us with non standard colors from the April and wite seat waiting rooms are still waiting, I think waiting for those with May orders is wise. Unless, if course, one shows up in as stock that you like and you can contact them fast enough. I suppose those are canceled or changed orders.
