    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

No question that current Tesla - Raven has the more efficient drivetrain. For me the surprise was how much better than EPA is the Taycan - as opposed to less than the EPA I observed with our 3 Tesla's. Not a large miss for the Tesla, but I never matched the EPA range - around 240 vs. 253 miles...

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

That is absolutely true by EPA numbers. By real world range, all the Taycans go at or above 250. I checked the consumption on few 180 mile trips in my 4S, per mile it is identical with the consumption of my previous P85D (see graph below). With the larger battery pack, the 4S goes about 300 mi...

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

The base Taycan was anounced - but only for China. I presume that it will later be available in Europe and US. Single motor (RWD) but dual speed gearbox. It's on all automotive news. Price in China is ~77% of the 4S - which means base version here will start at around 80k. The surprise was the...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Karen, I am not sure why you seem so infuriated by the Taycan. All the things you point out are true and in line with a new manufacturer and a new network. I started watching Bjorn Nyland's videos as soon as he started posting - and I remember how much more challenging was for him to do his...

    Porsche Mission E

Agree that they could have done better. That being said, there was the UK test of electric cars ran to depletion (CarWow). The test was done with a starting outside temp of 7C (45F) dropping to 5C (41F) at the end of the trip, mostly on highways at a cruise control speed set at 70 mph. The Tesla...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Now is this not a tad misleading? Since you took the time to go through the 38 pages of that thread, you could have at least mentioned that the average consumption you quote is travelling in winter through Canada including a stint through a blizzard, and going though the Canadian Rockies...

    Porsche Mission E

Range is clearly better for Tesla than the competition. That being said, they tend to have a highway range lower than EPA reported - by a larger margin than other automakers. Here is a range comparison recently posted on youtube. For those who did not watch the video, it was done in UK with a...

    Might switch to Taycan

I think I understand what you say - but was that because of the change to ICE or because of the clunkier user interface, or perhaps both? We have now a model 3 with white interior (very elegant, zen-like) and a 2019 Merc E-coupe. My wife and I both prefer the model 3 for the fun of driving, but...

Model 3 Performance - charged to 100% shows 293 miles range. Why?

That is complete and utter BS - rated range has nothing to do with your driving style (this is what other EVs do, but not Tesla). As far as I can tell, Tesla rated range depends only on the state of charge of your battery, and changes under 3 circumstances: 1. Decrease - with natural decay in...

    Might switch to Taycan

To the OP - my Porsche dealer tells me about half of their waiting list are people who owned EVs, most of them Tesla - so you are not the only one considering it. The downsides of Taycan are obviously price, charging infrastructure and range. Advantage is really a very good looking car with...

    Porsche Taycan EPA range

It is definitely going to be worse than with a Tesla - for both the density of superchargers and the lower range. But I would say perhaps not as drastic as you are mentioning. Daily driving assuming you don't have a huge commute should be OK. For the day trips I currently charge our model 3 to...

    Porsche Taycan EPA range

I could not find any good user review of the Porsche Innodrive system, will probably be similar to the e-tron system. I assume Tesla will be clearly superior to both in terms of features, upgrades. I assume the Porsche will be just at the level of Autopilot from 2014 or so.

    Porsche Taycan EPA range

Have not seen anything in writing, but people are talking about charging to 80% being recommended.

    Porsche Taycan EPA range

Range is indeed much less than expected, which is a disappointment. The car is a beautiful design though and drives very well, that is why many will buy it. As you can see several forum members lurk on the Taycan forums - which should tell you there is interest in the Taycan from current Tesla...

Summons crashed my car into a column

Sorry for you - it sucks. As others said, I doubt you will get anything from Tesla. My take on summon is not to use it unless I have to - such as when an idiot parks too close for me to get in the car.

    Porsche Taycan EPA range

This is going to kill a lot of the demand from previous Tesla owners. With a nice interior and good quality it was very appealing to me. However, at an expected 205-210 miles range for the 4S (extrapolating from the 287 vs 280 WLTP range) this is definitely a no go....

Winter driving advice, winter tire choices, etc.

Agree with the OP, the current winter package is not that impressive - certainly less than Merc with Michelin Pilot Sport under same conditions. I wonder if this can also be tweaked by software or is this just grip. Anyone with Blizzaks or Nokians on model 3?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Going back to the thread - anyone knows what happened with the Insideevs monthly EV sales estimate? We are mid November and there is no October estimate yet.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

In general I agree with what you are saying, with some tweaks: First, I assume that since most consumers look at rated range, this will remain a priority for all companies interested in selling EVs. I seriously doubt that Ford was able to identify the absolute best software package without...

Is there anything on the Mach-E that you liked BETTER than your Tesla?

I'll add the interior lighting - can choose various colors. No need to update to Abstract Ocean on this one.
  21. S

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The efficiency of the electric drivetrain is clearly below Tesla. However, since Ford took a lot of "inspiration" from Tesla I expect it can follow also on the software tweaks and improve the range in the process. They stated that all cars are logged on - much like Tesla - which will enable them...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

You can tell the Tesla crowd is more enthusiastic about the brand and reveals - the audience was very tame. The car though looks pretty good. Glad to have another competitive EV. Charging is up to 150 kW (on the website). There is already a TopGear brief video review. The most I like the idea...

Service Mode Needed to Install Winter Tires?

You do not need a code to change tires / wheels. If you use a new tire/wheel combination, the car will detect the new TPMS sensors after driving for a while and once you get in Park mode will prompt you to register the new wheels (whether they are 19, 20 or 21" wheels). That's all there is to it.

How are the 3D MAXpider floor mats holding up?

Maxpider for 1.5 years. holding up very well, in my opinion more elegant than the Tesla mats. I may be in a minority here, but I actually find the logo elegant - goes well as an accent for my white interior

    This horse is dead, but.....

Agree/ Would add to the list better interior lighting. I changed for Abstract Ocean to have some form of light inside. The lights on the steering wheel are pathetic though. Might as well not put them on at all.

Model S to the Nürburgring Next Week!

There is no question that Tesla has the better battery technology, better efficiency, and very likely the plaid will be faster than the Taycan, probably at a similar pricepoint with the turbo (I remember the P100D ludicrous was a 135k car, suspect plaid will be same, possible slightly more)...

    How hot is heat?

This is unusual. Teslas have the best heating of any cars I owned - get warm much faster, very good heating in cold Minnesota winters. Check it now before it gets too cold, you may need to have it fixed.

    Taycan Turbo S out-drags vanilla P100D

As others have said, not entirely fair comparison - should have used a Raven performance vs the turbo S (top spec vs top spec). On the other hand, when you watch the full video you see there was some criticism of the Taycan (not charging at the advertised 270 kW - but mainly because of charging...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It's not about being adult, it is about setting (unrealistic ?) expectations for others. I think a lot of "analysts" read our forum and derive information from here. Once that gets into the media it becomes a de facto "expected target". It will not make the stock go any higher (it was expected)...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

All this talk about model Y builds up too much expectation. If debunked at the conference call, the SP will take a dive - much like the pre Q2 earnings (high expectations on earnings, next day drop). Let's not focus on it, be pleasantly surprised if it happens.

Blog Porsche Announces Cheaper Version of the All-Electric Taycan

It has adaptive cruise + lane keeping + lane change assist. Went today and drove a performance model S Raven. Drives very nice, but the interior is dated. Went then to the Porsche dealership. Obviously no Taycan yet, but I sat in several cars (Panamera / Macan / Cayenne) - from basic models to...

    Porsche Taycan

If you go on the UK Porsche site, you can get a range calculator for the Taycan. I think this is as transparent as it can get - 4S defaults to the standard battery with full heating/AC on and the standard wheels. It suggests 188 miles on a 30% city, 40% country road, 30% motorway. For the larger...

Blog Porsche Announces Cheaper Version of the All-Electric Taycan

Like so many others have stated on this forum, model S needs an interior refresh - with that it may compete with the Taycan. A lot of dismissive posts on the Taycan here, but reality is the car is good looking, has performance on par with Tesla, and build quality will be Porsche. Many people who...

    a new, heavily discounted 2018 Panamera 4ehybrid or Model S (not a P)

Porsche will feel like a luxury car and it will drive well, but it is no Tesla. As others have said, once going Tesla - meaning the electric rush + the highly intuitive user interface - there is no going back. My dream car is a model S with redesigned interior (nicer materials, proper interior...

"Tesla": The word that will get you a better Mercedes lease.

Same noise levels on the iPhone app - I would say more tire noise in Tesla, more engine noise in Merc - overall a wash. I test drove an S-class - obviously more quiet. At regular city driving, the Tesla is much more quiet. The sound system - Tesla and Merc with Burmeester (not at the highest...

"Tesla": The word that will get you a better Mercedes lease.

I too drive the model 3 mostly on the highways when I take it. The Autopilot (far from being perfect) helps me have a more relaxed drive. I do keep my hands on the wheel and my eyes on the road at all times - just like in my Merc. When I get home from my 200 mile trip I feel less tired with the...

    S to Porsche Taycan

I am waiting for the range announcement, I am afraid it will be another over 300 miles on European cycle - meaning about 250 EPA; that is too low for me. The use interface should be close to the current Panamera, and probably will abandon most knobs. Quality should be top. Performance probably...

"Tesla": The word that will get you a better Mercedes lease.

To the OP. We have a Tesla (my wife's model 3 performance, our third Tesla) and a Merc 400 E coupe (mine; second year of lease). 1. No problems with either 2. Flawless quality in both, but nicer materials in Merc, I especially like the ambient light at night 3. I take her car whenever she does...

Zero battery indicated all of sudden

I hear you. Before my first P85D I had a BMW 650 xDrive. Gorgeous car, got one of the first to arrive in US on an impulse buy on Black Friday (yes, they had a good sale). Next morning it barely started, every alarm was on - I think it was firing only on 4 of 8 cylinders. The dealer felt bad, got...

Charging on NEMA 14-50 with Tesla mobile connector

I have used the NEMA 14-50 for the last 4 years on 3 Tesla - as long as you have the correct adapter you should be OK. Plug all the way in, there were some reports of melting if there is a poor connection (kind of half way). I have my mobile Tesla adapter plugged in continuously, no worries so far.
  46. S

Zero battery indicated all of sudden

Sorry this happened to you. However, this is a very unusual occurrence with the current generation batteries, and the car should be awesome after they replace it. Good luck

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I am trying. Starting with convincing people like you that Tesla can be better;). Being immune to criticism is not the way to go forward, no matter how hard you (think) you try. Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

For those who read Tesla forum the product is that good. For those who do not Tesla it is not even on the radar screen. Your word of mouth and mine against the endless media bombardment is not worth that much - and you have the SP to show it. Once EVs are 20% of the market, there will be more...
