2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

That's good to know, the person at the service center said they were new or something like that, so I probably should not have assumed the whole heat pump idea was new to the 2023 M3, do you know if they are manufactured all in one locations with all the same specs, or made changes to in 2023 -...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

with 2023 models, the new heat pumps have a significate heat curve in performance cost and lack of cooling. Just got the vehicle back from the service center - they said "nothing is wrong with your vehicle", I asked the service center how many other people (in Phoenix Heat with 2023 models)...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

I am beginning to think the issue we are facing may be similar since it seems to have started after a service visit (although, admittedly , that could be anecdotal ). Perhaps the vehicle is set to be to aggressive for cooling the LFP battery and this setting (what ever it could) is the root...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Not yet, but thanks, we are definitly getting one...we recirculate, the highest we go now is 72 degrees, but wether 68 or 72 does not help. The climate consumption is still just way to high - often using as much or near miles as the miles we drive.
  5. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

If possible can you post the energy app screen that shows how much consumption was used by climate? Ours is using more miles than the miles we drive - it does improve slightly on longer trips. Our longest daily round trip is 58 miles. Others are less but the miles add up quickly.

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

We are using various settings now, mostly using 68 degrees, and go as high as 72 where it begins to gets pretty uncomfortable - we are definitely going to get one of those insulated roof covers, (we always recirculate the air-eyes always gravitate to that setting just to be sure, when it is...

Sorry, what is your tesla year and model.

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

We have the same problem in our 2023 M3 standard range, it is only off during the extreme heat and consumption is . Preconditioning does absolutely nothing - unless it is a short trip, then you spend the energy upfront, so not much benefit overall. The problem is the battery and vehicle get...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

This really scare me..." Is this why I hear my car "running" when it is off in the heat? (even if I have the cabin temp protection off). it is keeping the battery cool? I usually hear this on hot days. " And yes this is what we seem to be seeing. Just did not pay enough attention before...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Stay tuned to this blog, I think we are going find out if there is a problem or how we manage this to do with Phoenix heat. Most people have know idea what heat it till they live in the desert. The direct extremes heat things up quick.

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

No, I am looking for a good source in Phoenix to get this done, and evern for the glassroof the insulated cover.. let me know if you have recommendations.

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Air Conditioning Keep in mind that the air conditioner in the Tesla Model 3 is a fully variable speed compressor. I’ll repeat that so you can really hear it: the cooling system in the car is fully variable speed. This means anything you can do to make it run more slowly will save power —...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Thanks for your comments, good to hear, (Some of this was highway miles, I suppose I should mention that). Maybe the excessive heat impact is going to end up being the Norm in phoenix. When I post hot days next week we will see the impact. One would assume that if 90 temps are somewhat...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Yes, I am happy with the 90 temperature results.. And Thanks for the idea of the lifetime counter. I will post more when it gets hot, look for those next week.

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Does the info I posted today provide that information ? Or do I need to include any addtional informatin? You said to "Talk in power consumption of the A/C and the rest is obvious" How do I measure that other than the energy app? Others recommended apps like "ScanMyTesla", what would give...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Ok, Saturday Morning, to recap , trying to figure out why my 2023 LFP battery M3 strandard range is drawing so much power when running the AC on LO Ssetting when the summer heat hit. (Fan on HI setting). We were loosing 200%+ of range . At 80 % charge it was difficult to even get 100 miles of...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

I will be posting more results in the morning with longer ranges. for you all to help me figure this out. I asked the wife to do her trip on LO outbound and at 67 degrees inbound to see how much difference that makes. The temp today is only 98 degrees, so not a great day for testing but will...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

If it is 80 to 90 in Phoenix (dry heat), it is normal for me to drive with no AC and windows down. (In Ohio, I could not do that at 80 degress.) This coming weeks temps in Phoenix will be 114+ with surface temps as hot as 160 degrees, then it turns into another world.

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Thanks I will try and do better, will try out the AC cool down on Sunday morning.

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Sorry for that, family events and wife using the car make it difficult, but am planning to post some longer trip data by Saturday morning. And correct, trip greatly vary, our longest is the daily round trip to take the grandson home via highway ~58 miles round trip. I will try and get as my...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

If you want to talk about BMS and Battery degradation - be my guest. But, it is really not part of my discussion. It is about, once again, how much is the power consumption to run the AC on LO, and should it drastically reduce your range if you drive that way in Phoenix - And what is the...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Thanks everyone, my wife is charging the car to 100% (272 miles) and will doing a lot of driving today. So by tomorrow morning I hope to have added all the data you all have been requesting, so check again in the morning. Till then if you have not read this 2020 article it is worth reading...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Did not use maps, honestly just from memory (do we really remember how long we drive unless clocking it). Phoenix is just a widely spreadout open city, unlike most cities travel speeds are 50mph and usually only one or 2 red lights per mile at worst. So going 9 miles takes very little time...
  27. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

My wife drives over 100 miles per day, sometime 150, that is the whole reason I got the tesla, we charge it with our solar. This car was suppose to pay for itself in 5 or 6 years the way my wife drives with the free solar charging. And so that you will have better figures to work with, I will...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

I will be getting another Loaner where I can compare same to same drives with AC on LO and fan on HI. Same conditions and trips, if there is no problem, then the results should be the same. I will provide some bench marks to see how vehicles compare. There will be differences, but they should...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Interesting. So then all 2023 Tesla M3 (is that your vehicle?) will get a reduction of 200% to 300% in range always driving on LO. Problem is. that is not the case, my tesla friends (mix of M3 and Y model various years) here in phoenix doing the same test - do not. They do experience...
  31. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Usage would be 1.75kw max, in phoenix this is 13 to 15 minutes, (and there is no parking time - you have a lot of inaccurate assumptions ). We experience the same problem on long trips. I am going to have to post more examples with longer trips. I had no idea a simple sample would result in...
  32. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Please do not say what I am and am not observing, this is dismissive and misrepresenting the facts. We quickly posted an example simply because we were asked to. Your logic is faulty - We drove only 5.3 miles on a similar hot day in a model Y Lender (posted below) and consumed only 7 miles, so...
  33. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

We park under a car port. If the AC is suppose to only pull 7kw max (running all the time -LO with HI fan) , going 10 miles and consuming 35 miles, or going 58 miles and consuming 140 miles plus. How do you recommend I precondition the car that is going to change this? (please provide...
  34. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Thanks for the question, the 10 mile was just an example, we always experience a 200% to a 300% drop in range for any distance driven when running the AC (in phoenix 110+ temps , running on LO with HI fan.) I am assuming running LO is running the compressor constantly, which another post...
  35. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

What else comes into play when you run the AC (other than the AC?) If the AC is off we get the expected range. I will go drive the car 10 miles unders same condtions, one with AC on and one with AC off and post the energy app this afternoon - please look for it tomorrow and tell me your...
  36. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Thats the magic question - how much...we find some owners are not experiencing this. Trying to find out from others what they experience. Please use the energy app on your vehicle to see how much the AC (Climate) is using - mine is attached. Google it if you have not used it, pretty simple to...
  37. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

If we don't use the AC, then we get the range expected - about 200+ miles at 80% charge, the only difference being that when using the AC , the range drops to well under 100 miles. The energy app confirms this (see attached). We know this is not a BMS issue (Charging energy required etc.)...
  38. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Does not matter if it is long or short trip range is reduce by more than double, car is parked undercover. See attached from Energy App, if you test drive your vehicle 10 miles (extremely Hot, and you set you air conditioner to "LO", do you consume 35 miles of range after driving only 10 miles...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Thanks for your recommendations. The attempt was to reduce noise unrelated to the question asked, this it is not about Charging, BMS or Battery degradation, it is about the AC energy consumption. Thank you.
  40. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

Example : Drive : 9.2 mile , 33.7 miles consumed, 20.4 used by AC (Climate), If I turn the AC off then miles consumed are within the expected consumed with all other factors considered ( elevation, everything else).
  41. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

This is commonly known, charge the LFP pack to 100% weekly - this is stated directly on the screen to do so. The only difference in the equation is the AC running or not running. The vehicle charges overnight on the home charger. During the winter months in phoenix we did not run the AC much...

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

As Stated, this is a new vehicle. so this answer does not apply.
  43. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

So this would drop my range from 223 to 100? Did you reproduce this with your vehicle where you RECIRC or don't and the range changes ?
  44. J

2023 M3 air conditioner using 70% of energy

We live in Phoenix, so it is hot, our 2023 M3 standard range at 80% was getting about the range shown 223 miles during the winter. In the summer we are getting less than half of that, we now get less than 100 miles. The energy app shows that all the energy is lost under climate (only occurs...
