    500 + Mile Range Debate

Thanks. My FPWN was 78.8. You are correct that that without using the lower buffer it’s closer to 75kw. My original rated range was 333 miles. I’ve used a low SOC strategy. I charged to 100% for the first time ever and it said my range was 332 miles. An energy screen calculation confirms...

    500 + Mile Range Debate

Just finished a 850 mile one way trip through all of WV part of the way in my 2023 Model 3 LR. Drove 77-78 MPH most of the way with AC on auto and set to 68. Averaged 4.1 miles per kWh. My battery is 78.8. 78.8 x 4.1 = 323 323/333 = 97% efficiency. Can’t imagine what is going on for...

Battery Degradation Fixed by Long Distance Driving...

Thanks Alan. Yes, mine is the LG 78.8. I've really enjoyed learning about these cars from you as well. I'm very lucky that my lifestyle and daily driving needs allow me to be fairly rigorous about a low SOC. I didn't do an energy calculation after I put the car in reverse. Any idea why...

Battery Degradation Fixed by Long Distance Driving...

I have followed the advice of @AAKEE for the 8.5 months I’ve had my 2023 model 3 LR. Only charged above 55% 4-5x for a trip and usually driven 25-30% per day. For the first time ever I charged to 100% for a long trip just before leaving. It said 331 rated miles when I opened the door and 333...

    500 + Mile Range Debate

I wish I had your bladders. 400 miles is over 5 hours of constant driving at 75MPH. I’m not making it 5 hours with a break of some sort

Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

I am going to predict it is the LG battery. Isn’t the long range model Y no longer eligible for a tax credit in the United States. The tax credit is available if the Panasonic battery is used because the Panasonic is manufactured in the United States.

    Battery health tracking SS

Thanks for all your help. I want to make sure I understand what you are saying. Often using wh/mi x range at 5, 15 and 30 miles yields different numbers. Are you suggesting whichever yields the largest number before dividing by SOC will be the most accurate?

What Percent is Your Tesla Charged to While at Home?

I really meant off peak charging. I just couldn’t remember what it was called 😂. Thanks for the advice. I now still plug in when I get home but jiggle my off peak charging time to coincide with when I plan to leave. For example, tomorrow it’s set to 11:00 am.

What Percent is Your Tesla Charged to While at Home?

I have the NCMA battery. I NEVER need more than 50% for daily use. 50 to 25% is a big day for me. Right now I am charging late at night to 50%. Since I am always under 60%, is there any downside to just plugging in and charging whenever I get home? The car will sit at 50% for longer but...

    HV Battery Health Test Confusion

2023 Model 3 LR. used Ken’s method of calculating range by using the service mode SOC. Miles / SOC and got 330 miles. That is the same 100% range Tessie gives me. But…when I use Alan’s formula of mileage * Wh/mi / SOC I get 77.4 as my capacity. 77.4 / 78.8 does not equal 330 / 333 as far...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

    Water on garage floor

It’s always near the front. Thanks. This summer we paid to have new concrete in the garage and there is a little dip right where the front end stops. Makes a nice size puddle. I try and sweep it away when I leave in the morning so the wife doesn’t start the conversation what my car is doing...

    Water on garage floor

I have had a Model 3 LR since August. One of the most surprising things to me is the volume of water I find on the garage floor on occasion. The car has been in 90 degree and 10 degree weather It doesn’t seem to have any odor or color and no warning lights have come on. Anything I should be...

EPA is not good, we need a new standard.

I have a model 3 LR and my average wh/mi is 238 and that’s up from my summer average because of cold weather. Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

Sorry. Carry on. I only wanted to point out that almost all of the information you could want to know about taking care of your battery is contained in posts 15 and 17 with scientific data By all means don’t let me stop you.

    Charging below 50%

Except if you look at the graph you can see you lose about 0.75% per 15,000 miles using large cycles and much more than that per year by not using a low SOC strategy. Note the cycles were done continuously at 3C and who does that. In short, you gain more by low SOC than you lose by deep cycles...

Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

Except that isn’t correct. Did you not read posts 15 and 17. To be precise, if you have a NCA battery, it’s best to be below 55% SOC as long as possible. Please look at the charts in post 15 and note the plateau at 55%.

Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

I recommend you search for @AAKEE and his many discussions on these issues. You won’t find anyone, anywhere more knowledgeable

Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

For the first 6-7 years a lower SOC produces way less battery degradation than charging cycles. If you can’t easily charge at home, what you are doing is best.

    Newbie, and still learning

I didn’t even need to ask. It was a public charger in the car dealership put there by ChargePoint. CCS1 is an adapter to be used for level 3 charging not level 2 I believe. Just be careful and read the Plugshare comments. Some car dealerships turn off their chargers after business hours...

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

I was playing around today with the energy screen to determine capacity of my 78.8 LR. I use the low SOC strategy and today the reading was at 16%. I really never charge above 35%. I know it’s better at a higher SOC. Here is what I did to get around the low SOC problem I went to the trips...

    Range, Tesla vs Others

Don’t know what to say. In the summer I have a 30 mile commute each way. Model 3 LR AWD. My average Wh/mi was 221. The commute was 60% on a 60 MPH highway and 40% on semi rural roads at 40-45 MPH. Pretty close to the EPA test and as you can see, I got rated miles because I drive the...

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

I love my Tessie app and the control it gives me over my 2023 Model 3 LR AWD. BUT…it gave me an initial capacity for my 2023 NCMA of 77.8 vs 78.8 which I believe is the correct number. I think 77.8 might have been the number for the European models. No biggie. I just changed it in the...

    Multiple Charging Schedules

Here is how I solved my similar issue. Set your Tesla so off peak charging is enabled. Assume yours is set to depart at 7:40am. Plug in when you get home. Set an alarm on your phone for 5;15pm. This is your reminder to plug in and start charging. Use your Tesla app to start charging. Set...

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

T Thank you Duncan. When I read the study I didn’t see the Panasonic NCA or the LG NCMA or the CATL LFP batteries tested. Sorry for the confusing question. I was trying to ask whether or not any of the batteries tested were close enough in composition that parallels could be drawn to the...

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

Can someone with more knowledge than me please chime in. I think I know the model 3 LR uses a NCMA battery made by LG in Korea. The performance uses a NCA made by Panasonic and the RWD uses a LFP by CATL. Does this Australian study have any bearing on the batteries used by Tesla in their...

“Red Shading” Missing From Automatic Blind Spot Camera in Latest Update

I'll ask again. Multiple people in this thread have indicated the red shading only occurs when there is a car in the blind spot AND the turn signal is on. Does your car show red shading without the turn signal on. Below is the language from the 2023.44 release notes Automatic Blind Spot...

What battery cells are in the 2023 M3 LR?

This is exactly my experience with a LR built 08/23. Tessie says 332 range and calculated mileage based on SOC always exceeds 333 miles. Can’t confirm mileage at 100% because I haven’t changed over 50% in months.

Watt hours per mile to attain projected range

I am a grandpa and drive like one going the speed limit +4. My 60 mile drive is basically 30m highway and 30m country roads. My lifetime Wh/mi is 229 in my LR. Maybe I’ll get put on Tesla’s witness list 😂. TBH I went on a road trip with my son and he wanted to drive. His efficiency was...

    HV Battery Health Test Confusion

Is there another way I can calculate this? I know my car is rated at 333 miles. A charge to 100% tells me my range is 332 miles. Is my degradation 332/333 or .05%? Let’s pretend my SOC is 38%. If I multiply 333 x .38 you get 126 miles which is exactly what shows on my car at 38%. Are...
