The heat pump runs during cooling or heating. In a 'regular' AC system the heat pump only runs for cooling. Other than that it is just additional valves and plumbing. Implementation methods vary a bit.

I took delivery of my 62kWh(bulk) RWD six months ago. At 6 months and 4,000 miles, Tesla fi reports it is 2.9% down. I'm not especially bothered. If it kept loosing capacity at the same rate, it would qualify for warranty repair in six years. I do not expect that to happen.
