Driving Across the Border ¡Bienvenidos a México!

How did the car handle the transition from the US cellular network to the Mexican one? I've heard of people driving from the US into Canada having a period of no connectivity while the car's modem figures out it needs to switch networks.

Protecting the Frunk Latch from water? Car thinks the frunk is open when it's actually closed.

Yesterday we had an unusual (for Colorado) 36 hours of heavy rain and snow. We were out and about driving both of our Model Ys and all seemed well, until this morning when I woke up and looked at my phone and saw to my horror a text from my neighbor from 4:30AM saying that one of our car alarms...

    2024 MY "Price Adjustment" Math

Yeah we got 9% off our white YLR last month, and it was a ‘24 Austin build. FWIW our other YLR was purchased in January and is Midnight Silver, not Stealth Gray, despite also being a 2024 per the VIN and our purchase docs. Also Austin-built.

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

He's their one-man marketing and PR team, got to take everything out of his mouth with a huge chunk of salt. This is probably an attempt to get people who are waiting and waiting for the best deal to make their move, but given the oversupply they have I would be very surprised if discounts...

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

Before I got my YLR I'd been driving the same car for almost 12 years. At first I thought I'd never be comfortable in the Y, but after a few weeks I started to get used to it and now I'm just as comfortable in the Y as I was in my old car. I purposefully didn't fiddle with the seat settings...

Poll: Do You Plug In Every Day (for daily driving, home charging)?

Most of the time I drive less than 10 miles a day so I don’t plug in every night. A couple of days a week I’ll drive 40 or 50 miles for work. My charge limit is set to 60 and I usually plug it in when I get down to the low 40s. We do take longer road trips every month or two and for those I aim...

    Best tires for 2024

I like them on ours too, they've done well in the cold, on a couple of snowy drives over Rocky Mountain passes, and are great in the dry. Nice and quiet and the ride is comfortable at 42psi. Hopefully they don't wear to quickly or unevenly.

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

I'm still seeing inventory being discounted up to 10%, thought that's 10% off the new MSRP ($1000 higher than in March). But if you don't need a car now it's probably worth watching and waiting to see what happens as the quarter progresses.

    Model Year 2024 Model Y

I believe that Fremont only makes 7-seaters and Austin only makes 5-seaters. For a while the two plants were installing slightly different parcel shelves (rear cargo area covers) and Fremont wasn't installing matrix-capable headlights yet but I believe both plants are using the same parts now...

Thoughts on Medusa Black wheel covers for Model Y

I just use the trim removal tool there too, inserting it at the edge of the main cover where it meets the wheel and pulling out to get the first clip to release. After that the rest come off easily.

Thoughts on Medusa Black wheel covers for Model Y

I've had my Medusas off a couple of times since I got them and didn't find it to be a hassle at all. I used a nylon trim removal tool with a sharp bend at the end to loosen the center cap and a microfiber cloth between the tool and the main wheel cover. No scratches, no problems. If you're...

    Car wash?

I had good luck with Optimum No-Rinse with Wax on my old black VW using the two-bucket method. You don't need a hose—just a bucket full of water, solution, and microfiber cloths, then another bucket to drop the microfiber cloths into as they get soiled. That means you can use warm water in the...

19" Gemini wheel covers - A recommendation to end all others?

Get some from Rimetrix. The attachment/removal is easy as long as you follow the instructions and the plastic they use is thicker and less brittle than what you can get from Amazon/Aliexpress/Temu/Wish. But I would say regardless of which covers you use, take them off yourself before taking the...

    Cental Colorado FSD 12X challenge

Funny, I went through Park Co. this weekend on 285 and noticed more phantom braking than I've experienced anywhere else so far. Weather was clear with no precipitation but I got a couple of random slowdowns using TACC+Lane Centering. This was prior to the 2024.3.6 update FWIW. 🤷‍♂️

MY Uberturbine wheel cover (Yeslak) stuck on wheel, broke coming off

What I like about the Rimetrix design is that the removable hub means that the force of removal is distributed between the hub clips and the clips on the main cover that attach to the wheel spokes. I've taken one of my Medusas off a couple of times and used a nylon trim removal tool (the narrow...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Sorry if this has been covered already but has anyone tried installing a sun shade in the roof? I wonder how much of this is due to sound waves reflecting off the glass roof and being focused on a specific part of the cabin. A sun shade could help dampen those acoustic reflections.

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

I checked our typical road trips on ABetterRoutePlanner back when we were researching the first YLR and they all worked out great (on paper of course) so the Tesla was already our “road trip” car. But as always it all depends on where you want to go, what the charging situation is, and what your...

Yup! Model Y, the car so nice we bought it twice. If you want an EV they're very hard to beat for what you get for the money, especially with the tax credits we get here in Colorado on top of the Federal one.

19" Gemini wheel covers - A recommendation to end all others?

I also chose to get Medusas for my Y, after checking out some Amazon-made ones the quality from Rimetrix in terms of material and fitment was much better. For mine I also got these center cap stickers—they fit well and are sticking well so far through several car washes and winter storms (I...

    Model 3 problem after problem

Sorry to hear about your experience, at least most of that was under warranty. TBH I wouldn't buy a used Tesla older than ~2022, it took them a good long while to get their production process sorted out and many parts went through multiple revisions as they discovered durability issues and...

    Moving with Wall Connector

IANAElectician but basically you need to put wire nuts and electrical tape over the exposed ends and put them in a closed electrical box—exposed wires are a big no-no, just in case someone turns the breaker on by accident, the breaker fails, there's a lightning strike that energizes the wires...

    Question Regarding Colorado Tax Credit

AFAIK Tesla hasn't elected to offer point-of-sale application of any tax credits apart from the Federal one. So even though the Colorado credit may be applied at point-of-sale, if you buy from Tesla it won't and you'll have to wait until you get your tax refund for tax year 2024 next year.

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

Question for those who use aftermarket mounts—under what circumstances would you want to remove both the front plate and the mount? I mean, I live in a front-plate-required state so I'm not planning on removing the front plate mount ever, or getting a wrap or PPE. So the OEM mount works fine for...

My Experience Taking my Model Y down to 0%

My takeaway from the data I’ve seen is that keeping your average SoC as close to 50% as possible, with small daily charges, will definitely result in a lower rate of battery degradation. But whether that reduction in degradation is significant over a 10 to 15 year vehicle life vs. just not...

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

I use the OEM mount. I have no plans to wrap the car. I bought the SnapPlate and the TesFram mounts but never installed them. Too much lumbar support even when deflated - driver's

Interesting. I might try this too—sometimes the lumbar support bothers me and other times it doesn't. Do you get any rattles from inside the seat after moving the plastic frame? Would it be worth putting some felt tape anywhere?

Debating the switch to 18 inch wheels from the 20 inch inductions

Funny, I find the ride in my '24 LR much better than in my '08 VW Passat. That had 18" wheels on 40-profile tires and a "sport" suspension which was nice in curvy mountain driving, but extremely harsh on potholed roads in the city. There are bumps and expansion joints that would rattle my teeth...

BTW big changes in 2024 Model Y vs 2023 earlier Model Y

Mine does have the 19" wheels which might help reduce vibrations from the road that cause rattles. The ride is much quieter and smoother than my old VW Passat, but that had 40-profile tires and a very stiff suspension.

    From Y to Audi e-tron: a Comparison

VW was started as a state-owned company in the 1930s, so while Hitler wasn’t literally the owner he was the head of state so nominally he was in charge of everything. However the VW we know today was cobbled together from the wreckage of post-WWII German industry by the occupying British...

    question on Scheduled Departure charging

My guess is you don’t have a peak charge time set in the Scheduled Departure settings. If you don’t it will just get you to your set max charge right away and then maintain it until your set departure time.
  39. jddaigle

    question on Scheduled Departure charging

I am not a Tesla tech docs writer but here’s what I’ve gleaned from usage: You can use the “Schedule Charging” feature to tell the car when to start charging. If you have off-peak electricity charges you can tell it when that period starts, so it will wait to start charging until that period...

BTW big changes in 2024 Model Y vs 2023 earlier Model Y

FWIW I’m very pleased with the initial quality of my Austin-built 2024 MYLR, inside and out. I don’t have much seat time in other Teslas to compare it it to but I am very picky when it comes to random noises and rattles in my cars and so far so good.

    Best Mud Flaps Head-to-Head comparison?

I have the same ones and like them. So far they've been on two snowy road trips from Denver to the Winter Park area over Berthoud Pass and have held up well. The rear mounting configuration is extremely sturdy (2 x bolts and 2 x plastic rivets). No issues caused by several pounds of frozen slush...

Wall connector charger questions (install, tax credits, etc)

It's probably means-testing, inserted into the legislation at the insistence of a Congressperson or two, to make sure people who make "too much" money don't get the credit. We here in the US are very hung up on making sure that only people who "deserve" it get benefits, rather than following the...

New 2024 Tesla Tire Repair Kit

My old Viair 71P seems to like the output from the convenience outlet in the trunk just fine. I like that it doesn’t have its own battery I need to worry about. It lives in the frunk with all the charging accessories. I should probably throw a can of fix a flat in there too, just in case.

19" Gemini wheel covers - A recommendation to end all others?

I plan on removing mine before taking the car in for any service involving removal of the wheels. I don’t expect techs to be familiar with aftermarket parts and better safe than sorry. IMO the concerns about removing Rimetrix covers are overblown, just use a screwdriver and towel per their...

19" Gemini wheel covers - A recommendation to end all others?

19" Gemini wheel covers - A recommendation to end all others?

Those are the same ones I reviewed and returned to Amazon. They do look good on @Iron’s car which is one of the reasons I tried them but I ended up liking the Medusas better. But that’s the nice thing about ordering from Amazon, you can try and return with no penalty except your time. Not sure...
