No, the Large Drive Units have an internal seal that is known to fail (when not if) and allow coolant into the electronics. If you have a P model or RWD only model it may be worth looking into the coolant bypass that fixes the issue.

Part upgrades, drop in replacement list, part revised by Tesla

I've been considering doing a center console upgrade. Minor wiring difference but basically plug and play:

Any mods able to un-invisible my posts above ^ I'm a real boy, promise ;)

You can really say the same for any luxury car. I don't know any car with a sub 4 second 0-60 that wouldn't cost over $15k if the motor goes. Sure, you can fix an engine, but you can also fix a battery pack. I'm probably coping here, but in warranty cars with more than 5 years of warranty are...

Nice, I'll see if I can get into the info without Facebook and might try to make it.

I hope you're right! I'm checking out the drive motor this weekend to see if it's caught a fluid leak, and if not I'm ready to apply a fix to make it last as long as possible. Completely understand about older cars needing repairs. My last few cars have been well within warranty period, but...

Bought my first EV, a 2013 Model s p85+ last week. Fun car, but of course I'm scared of the repairs. Question for the forum mods; I've got some posts that say awaiting mod approval and others that seem to just go through. I've tried responding to a couple people that commented on my post but...

Man, that stinks. I just recently bought an older tesla, but only because I have a second car to fall back on. Speaking of the avalanche, how long before banks refuse to finance older EVs due to the risk involved? Prices are going to start to tank on these unless they can figure out a better...

He also said he installed leather seats but the pictures from the car lot that sold it to him already had leather seats. I'm confused, but he doesn't reply to messages anyway. GL with trade.

Good to know; that seems like something that should be preventable if it's not been damaged already. I'll have to look more into the battery issues.

I've been amazed at how accurate it's been. I tend to drive like a grandma and sit anywhere from 250-320kw/m on most trips, so maybe that has something to do with it?

    I purchased a low mileage 2013 Model S in 2024 - ongoing log

First project with the Tesla: Large Drive Unit. Even if I take off the speed sensor and see corrosion or liquid, I plan to do a bypass. Some says it's not worth it, but considering my unit is quite, the damage may be minimal and with a drain hole and fluid bypass, it may last quite some time...

    I purchased a low mileage 2013 Model S in 2024 - ongoing log

Usually, I'm a very risk averse person. Usually. Backstory: I go through cars like shoes. Even when I was a broke 16 year old, I always found ways to trade/barter or save for a new car on an almost yearly basis. Now that I'm in my mid 30s and have a career to lean back on, my habit of swapping...

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Good afternoon everyone! I have a weird sound that seems to be connected to my AC in some way. It comes and goes throughout the course of a trip but is more consistent when the fan speed is low. The noise seems to come from the driver's side of the car which is the only reason I wasn't...
