    Battery Fuse Replacement 2016 Model S 90D

The warranty on my 2015 S85D expired in March. Got this notice last month. Ugh. The quote I got from Tesla is $1134 ($286 parts; $824 labor). Ugh! Why are the quotes so all over the place?

    Supercharger - Groveland, CA (7 V2 stalls)

I was just planning a trip to Yosemite tomorrow (2/9/2022), and the Tesla nav indicates Groveland SC "Temporary Closure". Anyone know anything about this? And/or know of sources from Tesla (or other) for updates/plans on this? Just want to know for planning purposes on availability for charging...

    Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA (LIVE 15 Nov 2017, 24 V2 + 16 V3 stalls, lounge)

When I looked yesterday, Kettleman City wasn’t in the top 10. As I recall, San Diego #1, Dublin #2, and some place in China #3. I didn’t register the rest other than no Kettleman City. The metric they are using (at least yesterday) is kWh (kilowatthours). That is measure of total energy...

    Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA (LIVE 15 Nov 2017, 24 V2 + 16 V3 stalls, lounge)

The first SC slot I occupied and tried to use had the hose wrapped and taped to the unit. An interesting way of someone declaring it “out of order”. When I pulled out of that slot, I found myself exchanging headlights with 2 other model 3s looking for an empty slot that wasn’t there. But as...

Briefly. Pretty balanced arrival and departures now. But I can imagine tomorrow not so much. Amazing that i am getting full power draw with 40 SC all engaged. 500GW pull ?

    Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA (LIVE 15 Nov 2017, 24 V2 + 16 V3 stalls, lounge)

I am at the Kettleman Supercharger right now. 100% full and people waiting. As soon as I can figure out how to upload the pic I just took, I will. I like my steak medium rare. And I’ll take any date in August for my trip. Thanks! IMG_4537.HEIC

Supercharger - Tejon Ranch, CA (expanded to 24 V2 stalls)

I am driving from SoCal to NorCal today. I noted yesterday a couple of times that all (24 of 24) of the stalls were in use at Tajon Ranch. Looking for some additional insights from folks on what is happening there. I’ve waited on T-day weekend for as much as an hour for a chance to charge at...

Tall People Only: Model 3 Review

6’5” (and wife is 6’3”). Rear-view mirror is typically my nemesis with all cars. In my S, no seat positioning (all the way down; most/all of the way back; seat back inclined as far back as I can but yet comfortably handle the steering wheel and allow room for kids behind me) can remove the...

Tesla door handle failure - pivot gear (anyone have one I can buy?)

I ordered 4 of these "paddle gears" on 12/13 from my service center in Rocklin, CA. They mentioned they would be coming from LA. Now 5 calls and 3+ weeks later, the synopsis of the latest update is "don't have them; don't have an ETA; don't know what else we can do but wait". Ugh. This is how...

Tesla door handle failure - pivot gear (anyone have one I can buy?)

Based on this recommendation for Tesla door panel removals (), I wound up finding this (see attached image) at the auto parts store. $15. Waiting to see how @Manzacoty fares in his efforts before trying myself... Search for "Trim removal set" on Amazon. Many forms of this came up.

@Bighorn @chr20 @mmccord Thank you guys for your contributions here. I've learned a lot and thankful for a community that maybe helping me save $800 for a repair involving a $1.18 part! @Manzacoty Way to blaze some Telsa parts trails here for the rest of us. Looks like you're equipped for...

@diaretical Curious how things turned out. Did you get the part? How long did it take? Did you do the repair yourself? Insights and/or lessons learned? (Got the same problem with an out-of-warranty vehicle and looking for a $8 vs. $800 fix...)

Got my invitation today! Says delivery in 4 weeks. Model S owner. Davis, CA. Reserved on 3/31 on-line during reveal. (Probably going to reserve place in line for low-range battery. Glad to see EV tax credit survive the “tax reform” efforts...)

    Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA (LIVE 15 Nov 2017, 24 V2 + 16 V3 stalls, lounge)

Stopped here on the way from NorCal to SoCal today (Sunday; about noon). Surprisingly, about a dozen Teslas charging when we arrived. Ate our lunch on the patio (laughing at the situated adjacency to a massive gas station and auto repair shop). Used the restroom. Toured the lounge/cafe area...

Anyone saved from an accident by autobrake?

The Forward Collision Warning (FCW) on my S85D didn't help me the one time I really needed it (TMC disc link on Model S vs. the 3 little pigs). However, it gave me a chance to test the "insane" ABS and stability control :-) Maybe the UI7/autopilot has some FCW improvements for this type of...

S85D emergency braking and avoidance maneuver (dashcam video)

My experience is that the FCW (the three beeps) is the first line of defense in the safety systems, and that is what I would have wanted to help me in this case. It didn't alert me, and I'm certain I was the one that initiated the braking/steering. After I mashed on the brake, the car went...

S85D emergency braking and avoidance maneuver (dashcam video)

An interesting data point. I should say that 3 adult feral pigs would represent at least the surface area of a human. Was wondering if it was a reflectivity issue, but it sounds like the radar world has it categorized as an organic. I sure hope that they can tap the ability to recognize and...

S85D emergency braking and avoidance maneuver (dashcam video)

The dashcam speed is accurate. I was going roughly 60 mph - having made the conscious choice to drive slower than I normally would with the rain-slickened highway and the dark conditions. I was running the stock 19" Michelin tires that came with the 2015 85D. They had probably around 14,000...

S85D vs. pigs: emergency braking and avoidance maneuver (dashcam video) The story: Was lazily driving down a completely dark farm-to-market road at highway speeds in Texas late one night. Admittedly not in my most cognitively alert state. Despite my high beams, I was startled by these pitch...

Supercharger - Napa, CA (EXPANDED Jun 2018, 12 V2 stalls)

Stopped by yesterday on my drive through Napa. Visually, not much progress from the photos from last week. I did note the inverter cabinets were installed in the cinder block enclosure. I must say it comes across as quite anachronistic locating this SC next to a working, large scale industrial...

    Tesla moments

My first "Tesla moment" was just between the wife and me. We had picked up our new 85D at the Fremont factory and thoroughly enjoyed and were amazed by both what TM was doing at the factory and the magic that the car exhibited in our "walkthrough" with the delivery specialist. We left the...

    Geocaching in a Model S?

Understood. Not looking to drive to the exact geocache location - just the spot where I park the car to switch to my phone gps. This is sort of a rally-like event, so getting there quick has an advantage - which I hope to exploit with my Model S... :-)

    Geocaching in a Model S?

I know this is soooo 2000s, but my work is having a geocaching "fun" event. Involves the use of cars. I thought there would be some advantage I could reap with my Model S nav system. My google searches on "geocaching" and "tesla model S" aren't providing much education. Does anyone know if the...

    Disappointing PowerWall News

I was told much the same after I "reserved" a Powerwall on Tesla website and was contacted by Solar City a couple of days ago (Hmmm. Didn't appreciate Tesla just feeling it was okay to hand off my information to SC even if they are both Musk-inspired/related). Was also told that the Powerwall...

View Waze Incidents on the Tesla browser

Certainly a hardware issue as 3G modems aren't "forward compatible" with 4G modems. I suspect it is also a cost issue as long-term 4G (and LTE, etc.) data service contracts to many thousands of cars ups the costs for TM...

View Waze Incidents on the Tesla browser

I love this specific contribution - as well as Tesla's allowance of this innovation. Kudos to the contributors. Of course the part of me that is slightly annoyed by a center console taken up to two roughly identical maps (nav and this browser/incident map) makes we want for another button like...

    Upgraded 85D?

Motivates me to study TM's differential and motor power "transmission" configuration. Wonder if they have advantages over ICE there in the torque steer area, e.g., do they have reduced drive shaft asymmetries or reduced mass/moments of inertia effects?, perhaps they can digitally compensate in...
  33. rpc364

    Upgraded 85D?

Not a proper interpretation. This graph is power (kw, horsepower, etc.) not torque (Nm, Joules, ft-lbs). You get (rotational) power by multiplying the torque by the rotational velocity (or alternatively, force times the velocity in linear movement; or volts x amps in electrical power). The fact...
  34. rpc364

    Upgraded 85D?

The speed as a function of power and acceleration definitely suggest they are squeezing more torque out of the motors. Not just an "overclocking" of the motor (allowing more current) to achieve higher horsepower at the higher speeds. TM has been sandbagging on their motors - and I love it...
  35. rpc364

    Upgraded 85D?

The question that is rolling around in my engineering mind is: did TM achieve this hp increase by boosting the (constant) torque of the motor, the max current draw of the motor (my suspicion), or a combination of both? The first would boost acceleration times, the second would show up more...
  36. rpc364

    Upgraded 85D?

Probably need to figure in inefficiencies in the electrical power draw to mechanical energy conversions. I trust the TM spec of 422 hp as accounting for all of that and a .85 multiplier for that conversion seems pretty reasonable to this mechanical engineer.... And I don't care what my P85D...

    Upgraded 85D?

Nice curves. ;-) Yep. Looks like there is a power limiter taking hold at about 325 kW = 435 hp. And "double-punching the accelerator for some reason"? I've done that too... :-)
  40. rpc364

    Upgraded 85D?

Note that horsepower is the product of torque and rotational velocity (as illustrated by the power climbing throughout the speed climb). I wonder if that last data point in the power curve is a horsepower limiter coming into play at about 60 or just a sign that you had just started to back off...
