The beginning of the end of free Supercharging ?

There is no need for tesla to forcibly remove the fusc. They just need to program their full self driving autonomous cars to total your fusc car. They know where it is located. And they will say they need to continue to work on the self-driving part. They are just waiting for enough idiots to...

suggestion for new 19 inch tires Model s 2018

Here is my update on the pure contact ls. It is definitely more comfortable, but the 70K warranty is way out of proportion. I am on my last 5K miles and I have only put around 15K miles since the tire change. I might go back to cinturanto p7 plus since they have the 2nd gen version and maybe...

Model X 90kWh battery pack degradation

Just so you are aware if you are not. The 90kwh pack never had 90kwh. New, it only has 86Kwh and about 81kwh usable/nominal. Given time and mileage, 70kwh nominal is definitely expected compared to other "90kwh" pack.

    Tesla model S battery Failed

Most likely they will eat the cost and just charge limit you to the 85KWh of the refurbished unit. Not the end of the world, but that is probably the more likely scenario. Best of luck on your dispute. Tesla service can be a hassle to deal with.

    Free Supercharging Still Worth It?

Base on the new pricing structure in CA, it is more expensive to drive a tesla on supercharging rates only during normal hours compared to a regular petrol car averaging 30mpg. Unless you plan to charge off peak at the supercharging station during road trips, unlimited free supercharging is a...

suggestion for new 19 inch tires Model s 2018

I used p7 plus All season, oem, and continental purecontact. The most comfortable and least noisy is the continental. The most range would be the p7, but very slightly. Probably 290wh/mi vs 293wh/mi for the p7. I get around 30-35K miles out of my tires. Continental is still up in the air, but...

Low charging Messaging Does not work!

Yeah lithium battery guestimation is not a perfected science. So at best it is just an estimate. I suspect one string in your battery pack is weak and the bms shutdown prematurely to protect the battery. And older battery pack will have worst estimation. I have a 2016 90D with 100K miles and...

Help: Where to Buy Desiccant Bag?

Any instructions on how to change this yourself? I got 100K miles and 6 years on mine and haven't changed it. AC performance is decreasing a bit and the summer heat is coming.

what’s your range now after 1

6 years 2016 90D at 95K miles 248 miles full charge 100%. Supercharge 2x a week roughly since buying the car.

    Screen peeling

If you have the mcu1 this is a common problem. The issue is tesla used industrial grade center and dash screen parts. They needed to be automotive grade screens. The only recourses are: 1) ask for a replacement at the service center and hope they do it for free for you. 2) pay to get it...

Driver LCD has Bubbles after Visit to Clarkston, MI Service Center.

Yeah that is going to fall off soon. Haha yeah thr mcu2 upgrade will replace this screen also. Note a lot of the adhesive already has gone to the bottom. The service center will have a heck of a time cleaning that out. Their loss I guess.

Driver LCD has Bubbles after Visit to Clarkston, MI Service Center.

I was thinking about those guys that had the Emmc replaced but did not get the MCU2 upgrade. The battery replacement might also require some screen removal and firmware update to make it fit the new battery? Who knows? But I think anything related to removal and modifying the center console can...

Driver LCD has Bubbles after Visit to Clarkston, MI Service Center.

Here is my suspicion on why this is happening right after the service center fix. All the old mcu1 screen are defective and out of specs in terms of how it can handle the heating and cooling of a vehicle. Basically it is NOT automotive grade stuff. When the service center guys opened up the...

2nd extra Tesla as a back up for 1 driver?

The man has to cut cost where he can in these inflationary times. And given how many states are now tacking on cost to registration for EVs, I say that is genius. Just register one as non-operational and you are good. Just make sure to swap plates each time he goes out.
  17. N

2nd extra Tesla as a back up for 1 driver?

If you want an EV as a backup, I would look for something low cost and have a timely repair turnaround for those who ask what happens if the backup EV also fails when you are waiting for service on your tesla. However in today's world, everything EV is expensive, but chevy bolt, Nissan leaf, and...

    Confidence in “previously repaired”

Seems like a really easy decision here. The answer should be No, even converting to US dollars. I say if the car was priced around $30K USD, then maybe it worth it. But given the history and Tesla's servicing record, I would probably pass unless you want to assume that $30K USD risk yourself and...
  19. N

    Confidence in “previously repaired”

Given tesla service center record, I rather not take the risk. Now if it was significant discount, then maybe. Essentially I would factor in about $30K additional cost for a model s. I.e. what an equivalent car of that miles and year without the issue tesla claimed they fixed. Then discount that...

Value of 2012 Model S Signature P85 w/out working battery

Nah that is how tesla is. They don't get what they speced. I have a 90KWh which really started its life at 86KWh and 81Kwh usable. You can read all about it. But with degradation, it is really a 73kwh or about 69kwh usable after 5.5 years and 92K miles of usage. Yes it is really that bad but...

Tesla using old time dealer dirty tactics to make money on service

Same experience here, thankfully I caught the "extra" work early on and called them out on it. They removed it once I told them not to add services I did not ask for. I guess musk doesn't want to spend tons of money on services and just hope these high gas prices keep people coming. Like others...

    Home Charging Efficiency

Nope. This was the case after multiple 12V battery swap and been happening for years. And the consumption didn't change much even after I removed my dashcam which was drawing constantly from the 12V. Old high voltage battery self discharges quite a bit. That and teslas computer can't properly...

Should I abandon my Model S? New Battery Pack is needed.

A 2016ish model s would be soon running out of warranty also and again you don't want to own a tesla out of warranty. I would've still looked at the alternatives especially now that there are alternatives. I think tesla got you so fixated on the free unlimited supercharging. Haha But all kidding...
  24. N

    Home Charging Efficiency

The older the car, the higher the phantom drain and also higher self discharge of the battery. My car draws around 1.5-2KWh every day sitting there or driving and I have energy save on. I leave my car unplugged all the time. So phantom drain can add up real fast! This might be what you are...

Should I abandon my Model S? New Battery Pack is needed.

Personally I would take wk057 offer at this point, but honestly you should've done the research about owning tesla out of warranty. There have been plenty horror stories on tesla out of warranty cost. With your $40000ish you put in the car already, I would've gone with the id4 1st edition last...

Drive unit damaged after driving in heavy rain -- SC won't cover under warranty

Yeah I don't recommend teslas to my friends and family anymore. I only recommend it to my enemies and people I hate. My Model S 85D and Tesla life at 100K miles

I have not heard of any MCU2 leaks so far. Also if I am not mistaken, someone has looked the parts for the mcu2 and it does have the proper automotive grade adhesive vs the industrial grade adhesive of the mcu1.

My Model S 85D and Tesla life at 100K miles

Wow Bruce, your dash console screen is leaking heavily! Do you plan to get that fixed or not? haha Mine is starting on the dash screen, but also heavily leaking on the center console and I will be doing the MCU2 upgrade. Be-grudgingly paying the price for the upgrade even though I think Tesla...

    Rejected Delivery

Problem is if they reject too many, they will also get fired because they are not passing cars to be sold. Catch 22 situation. Honest it is the work culture of the company imo, ship broken things and fix it later. Until it comes from the top, this will not get fixed. Or if the competition...

MCU2 upgrade from MCU1 using mobile service?

MCU2 upgrade from MCU1 using mobile service?

Thanks for the update. Mine might be the same. I did push back the original appointment as far back as possible when I originally schedule the upgrade. I was hoping tesla was going to get parts and logistics in line because I gave them plenty of time. I guess it might not be thr case.

My Tesla S P85d nightmare. I don't think I ever want another tesla ever again and want to get rid of this junk asap

Yes in addition to those "check this and that," Brake pad replacement Tesla push for their recommend service for model S/X. The fluid change also base on their recommended service. And most of these you have to do at Tesla. Also a lot of the little stuff like screen leakage, axles issues, door...

My Tesla S P85d nightmare. I don't think I ever want another tesla ever again and want to get rid of this junk asap

Yeah another Elon's lies got someone. EVs aren't cheaper to maintain and operate. Like other have said, it is more convenient because you do less of the maintenance, but each one will cost you an arm and a leg. Petrol vehicles just mean you have to take it in more for maintenance, but each one...

MCU2 upgrade from MCU1 using mobile service?

After setting for a MCU2 upgrade, I noticed Tesla gave me a mobile service for the upgrade. Is that even possible? I am about to get serviced in a few days and there has not been any communication on their part to me about the cost, what the timeline is and such. I have sent them multiple...

Supercharging Speeds: Who, what, where, why, and when

Just wanted to update others here. It seems like supercharging is better than before the hard neuter, but the new firmware has restore some of the charging speed. However it is slowing it down again. I get peak of 113KW and it rapidly drops to 100kw when at 40%. If the battery is warm, it will...

Sell 2014 Model S before 8 Year warranty expires?

Yeah I will be in the same boat soonish. I got mine in 2016. Right now I am really hoping by the time my warranty is up, the supply chain and shortage issues work itself out so I can jump ship. Teslas are definitely something you do not want to own out of warranty despite what Elon and his...

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

The only thing I didn't like about this test is that they did the speed at 55mph. Do the test for that pack at 75mph like all the other tests from other people online. No one in the USA drives 55mph. I doubt they will get 752 miles. My guess would be closer to 550 miles. But that would be bad...

    Low Voltage Battery

Really depends. If it is cold weather, you got maybe 1 week or less. If it is hot or warm, maybe a month like others have said. My experience was my first 12V pack lasted about 3 weeks before I did the change myself. The 2nd time, it was about 1 week. If I waited longer I risk getting locked out...

please recommend quality all season 19" for S.

Ok got about another 2.5K miles in on the pure contact LS making 3K total miles. It is definitely broken in now. It is noisier compared to when it was new. Ride is slightly more rougher. Still it is still better than the Cinturato P7 plus All season when that was broken in. It is still floaty...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

How much did it cost you? I was just wondering if Tesla raised prices due to inflation or not. Also it is possible to upgrade the 85kwh pack to the 100kwh pack? I thought tesla said it was not possible. I know wk045did say it was possible but surprised they didn't complained and willing to work...

Neat trick to pass on unlimited supercharging to the next owner

Yeah I understand your point, but like others have said, unless you roadtrip everyday, you can't really use supercharging rates. In any case, as you can see, it is still pretty expensive over the life of the car but not to your level. I think for me, the car needs to last up to around 600K miles...

Neat trick to pass on unlimited supercharging to the next owner

Here is my math which I have posted but will regenerate for you guys. Yes CA electricity is creeping up to $0.4 per KWh. I'll average it at $0.25 because that is the super low overnight cost. I use about 300wh/mi over the life of model s. Assuming 15K miles per year. 120K miles over the 8...

Supercharging Speeds: Who, what, where, why, and when

Thanks wk057 for more updates. If Tesla was the company it was before, it would silently give everyone a new pack and it will still probably not affect their bottom line much given how many money they are making this year. Heck they can just sell all there BTC and use the profit to fix all those...

FSD Resale Value after 3 years?

Like other said, the FSD value is really only on the hardware upgrade you get down the road for free. But that is not guarantee either. Musk recently stated latest FSD beta does not work on AP 2.0 cars upgraded to AP 3.0 processing hardware because of outdated camera modules. And who knows what...

    Brand new 2021 model 3 or 2017 Tesla Model S 75D?

I would get the Model 3. Newer tech. Newer battery, and more real world range. O and did I mentioned it is a NEW car? Yes you give up on space, but the Model 3 is not that bad. Every car would be a compromise and it is up to you on what you are willing to pay for what you are going to get...
