Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

OBDLink devices can get around/up to 1000 packets per second with Scan My Tesla. The Model 3 sends around 2000 packets on that bus, I suppose similar for Plaid, so you're missing about half.

Canbus Analyzer was built by me to support Scan My Tesla. SavvyCan I don't know well enough, but I thought I had seen it support Scan My Tesla files a while ago. Maybe ask the SavvyCan developer, maybe it's a bug or unintended regression in later versions?

Tesla Thermal Management System - explanation

The only source I have is Teslabjørn running Scan My Tesla. Whenever he turns the heat on, battery coolant temperature drops to below current battery temperature. I assume the opposite will happen in warm weather. I think I've seen schematics confirming this property, but I can't remember the...

Tesla Thermal Management System - explanation

I think you may be missing the point that Tesla heat pumps are liquid-to-liquid

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

On this topic, we have emailed a bit, and the app seems to get a lot of useful information on the Plaid. Jay sent me some screenshots, maybe you want to share it here too? It seems to me at first glance that all this stuff works when selecting Model 3: - All battery stats, capacity...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

I have no easy answer to 12v battery health, you can see the voltage and amps from the DC-DC converter, not isolated to the 12v battery, if you turn off all 12v accessories you should be able to make out how many amps it's charging, and at what voltage. But no easy '12v health' readings...

Plaid and Palladium is still very new for us. I don't have all the facts straight yet, but I am pretty sure that a) you need a specially built cable, as the buses have moved from where they used to be b) you will get some info by choosing model 3/Y in the app, but I'm not sure how much works and...

Fun project, concept: playseat, play AAA simracing PC games in VR with Quest2 from inside the car

No, the first 3 bytes are the can ID's. To be clear, does the same device and wiring work with scan my tesla? If so, we know the adapter works for this task, and your wiring is correct. If so, try this: Do an ATMA first. That lets the obd2 adapter auto detect the bus speed and type. It may be...

Fun project, concept: playseat, play AAA simracing PC games in VR with Quest2 from inside the car

297 decimal = 129 hex (don't ask why it's being mixed, it's DBC format standard I think) If you now say ATCF 129, then ATCM 7FF. I forget which is which, but I don't think it matters. 7FF because that's 11 bit which is the number of ID bits in this type of bus. ATMA after this should give you...

Fun project, concept: playseat, play AAA simracing PC games in VR with Quest2 from inside the car

We could add steering wheel to the Teslalogger list, but Teslalogger does a lot of data compression and discarding to not overfill the Raspberry Pi with too much similar data. So I don't think that would work for what you're trying to achieve. Look up JWardell's DBC file, there all the...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Yes, it's the timeless dilemma. OBDLINK is the only device fast enough to give smooth screen updates. Cheaper ELM's will give you less headache, but also choppy updates and choppy logs. OBDLINK is working on solving this, for years now. I hope one day they will be able to fix it with firmware...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

No you are right, some Model S/X harnesses will leave the OBD2 constantly powered, which is completely unneccessary IMO, as there will be no data in there. Same as any other accessory pulling 12v current, your high voltage battery will have to wake up more often and recharge the 12v battery. So...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Maybe I'm wrong, I thought the sleep/deep sleep settings were in that app. At least there are AT commands for it, I had two people with issues (probably on a certain firmware or batch of OBDLINKs) that had the deep sleep enabled, it would never wake up again, according to OBDLINK support because...
  14. amund7

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Does that help with the OBDLINK hangup issue? I have always just left it on. But yeah it's a good idea, especially if you had turned it off & forgot, the app will just not work, and not give you good hints about why. It should just turn it on automatically.
  15. amund7

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

There is a 2-step answer to this: 1. Check if your OBD adapter loses power when the car goes to deep sleep. This depends on who built your cable, EMDS cables do this, other vendors not 100% sure. If it loses power (goes completely black) you can be sure it will have no ill-effects to leave it...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Not to brag, or well actually to brag, Scan My Tesla has a lot of stuff that is NOT in there. On the other hand, the internal screens has a lot of stuff Scan My Tesla is missing. Most notably to me, lots of HVAC info. We have some, but I see there is a lot more. Also the car's birthday is in...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Yup. Mine is already downloded (24.5), but I will do something I've never done before - postpone new updates, until there is something new I actually want. (Such as the new Plaid UI, if that will ever go fleetwide, which I guess it will at some point)

I have 2021.24.5 downloaded. I suppose it will remove this 'bug'. Does anyone know?

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Yup, I have access now. Will do the long job of looking through it all, and comparing with live Scan My Tesla, checking if it is in fact reporting the correct numbers, especially interesting on the newer signals we might not be 100% sure of the scaling, or the naming of that specific signal...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

I tried, but I'm not on this software yet. Probably a mistake Tesla made. I guess they halt the rollout once they realize it, and I will never get it, but I'm hopeful. I have a fun task for you, go through all the data and see if they match Scan My Tesla. If you find a value that is off let me...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Right now, Scan My Tesla does not recognize any other buses than the Powertrain bus / CAN 3. Also, my car (EU) does not have that plug under the seat, so it will be hard for me to develop and test any of that. Have a look at TeslaX, it already has some support for the chassis bus.

Yes, and it will move to IOS production soon.

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Agreed. Also 'day mode' has been heavily requested throughout the years. Now that both OS's have night/day mode built in, we should probably follow that - but as you suggest I'd love to get to a fully customizable color scheme. Pondering how to solve it technically. Would be cool if you can...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Sounds like you are on the right track with the cable. Only tesLAX is not buggy :) If you mix up CAN + and CAN -, I think you won't be getting any data at all. But I might be wrong, on some bus types you'll get garbage data If you are on the wrong bus, you might see a few values that give...

CX, AFAIK, is BLE only. Scan My Tesla does not support it, might in the future, just to give the IOS crowd some more options. And hopefully, the Android crowd too. Me & user's benchmarks are here: Adapters, phones, performance vs price chart Canserver is not in there yet, but it's even faster...

MX+ works with IOS. JWardell CanServer works with both Android and IOS beta versions LX, MX does the same job on Android, but much cheaper, if you don't need IOS support. MX+ works with Android too. Panda not supported BLE not supported. Bluetooth classic is supported on Android. In short...

Yes If you want a pinout for a Plaid Model S, I can't help you as I have never seen one, but very excited to see how the app works on one. Of course we will be missing 1 motor best case scenario. I see teslaX works with Model 3 selected, Scan My Tesla should too. That's pretty interesting...

This menu can be hidden completely by clicking the right hamburger. Pulldown and all. My idea was it should auto-hide after a certain time, but haven't yet figured out how to do that without it being annoying. Tabs can't be hidden. Also, sideways tab will fit maybe 3-4 tabs in portrait mode on...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Material design says this, I think this is case closed. I'll do exacly this. :) (I just don't get why Xamarin doesn't do it already, I trusted them to follow the 'rules')
  32. amund7

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

Yes, tabs are a great idea, Scan My Tesla used them since ~2016. But they eat a lot of the screen, and with more than 3 or so you have to start scrolling them sideways. If you turn to landscape mode, they are taking up something like 15-20% of your screen height, and you almost never use them...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

I absolutely agree, this app is growing maybe too fast and I see these things in hindsight. For example I hear a lot of users never find the 'signal lists', and keep complaining they 'want what Bjørn has' - even if it's already in there. But I can't think of a more obvious way to add it in -...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

I have no idea what to expect. Hopefully most of the app will still work. As we already know they changed the signals for Nominal etc to be able to send up to 200 kWh, and they have done similar things in the past for power signals. I'd be very excited to see what works and what doesn't if...

    250000 miles on a 90D

'Usable' IS from full to 0 displayed miles, or from 100% to 0% displayed SOC. Wh/km is not involved in my calculations.
  37. amund7

    250000 miles on a 90D

There is only one buffer, it is called 'buffer' in scan my tesla, and it is between 0 miles displayed and car shutdown (due to any cell group voltage below something like 2.5 V)
  38. amund7

    250000 miles on a 90D

Not sure I understand where you're going with this? Why don't you look at 'Usable remaining' for your calculation, then you don't have to worry about the buffer. The car will show 0 miles when usable remaining is 0. And then probably you will calculate a different Wh/mile that fits the 'Usable'...
  39. amund7

    250000 miles on a 90D

No, that's degradation. Well actually, it's degradation + 'settling' of a new battery. According to BatteryUniversity.com, I think that's where I read it - a new battery has MORE capacity than it's 'rated' capacity, and it will settle down to rated during the first charge cycles. The problem...
  40. amund7

    250000 miles on a 90D

This is incorrect, buffer is constant, or really scaling with degradation / along with Nominal Full Pack. At 0% you have 'buffer' left of Nominal Remaining. So 'Usable' (in SMT) = nominal remaining - buffer. Also, 'buffer' is something Tesla has set rather randomly, just to give enough buffer...

    250000 miles on a 90D

It is useful when there are new battery packs coming, you can already tell the difference (with this signal) between the 2021 3P, 2021 3 LR, and the 3 LFP batteries, as well as SR+. Not sure what the Y says, and if it also got more capacity in 2021, we'll see some reports from those owners too...

Vendor Scan My Tesla, a CANBUS reader for Android

I see the bug with the range bar graph when I switch to miles. I know I've fixed it before, maybe it's just the canserver version (which is the current one in Android beta now), I'll make a note of it and figure it out later. Thanks for reporting!

Thank you for the kind words! I really dig the linear plots as well, but there is so much more potential. Check the All tab, I am a bit rusty on the Model S signals but I think there are more range signals available than the ones shown under Battery. And I remember there were some disputes about which signals are shown in US cars and EU cars, or maybe just the naming of them, and I don't think I...

Does the app crash and close, or just stop giving data, because the OBDLINK is locked up? Have you tried the new betas (beta 3), I already have one report saying their LX worked better, however I believe that's just a coincidence. I don't believe the beta fixes an obdlink, but the code is...
