Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

In 2023 I only participated in 2 events after the terrible experience of 2022. So I will attempt to be more involved this season from the reports you have all given here on you experiences last year and the new rules around how compensation is determined.

    Supercharger - Pollock Pines, CA (LIVE 18 Jan 2024, 12 V3 stalls)

I should update my observations about this site. A week after this post my charge port was replaced with a gen 2 charger and door. I used it at this site about a dozen more times since my last post, all flawless.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

During the event did your PWs try to guess what the entire output would be to get you to your reserve at the end of the period? On my events they seemed to just dump the max power until they ran out, often an hour before the event curtailed, which meant I was using grid power during the last hour.

Powerwall 3 set to 45% backup reserve, at 43% now

Is the PW discharging or is the SoC just decreasing? If the temperature was colder than it was at the 45% reading it will continue to drop a little bit until the ambient temperatures raise again to the former value. If it is still discharging below your reserve then you have another issue.

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

Same. And another oddity this week. I got a full survey via email on my 8 year old Model X. Seems strange. Probably a mistake. I told them I basically still liked the car but had outstanding bugs introduced by Tesla years ago that have never been addressed and that I would like to see Tesla...

    Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

Mine is 10KW but that is after the event. See the gap. And in fact that is my big load (heat pumps) and when the power went out they reset and that is why they were set to come on. So this pretty much proves it was not them. I am still calling BS on the big load theory. Just don't have any...

    Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

If this was directed at me I don't understand the question or how to check. Both of my non Tesla inverters are Fronius which respond nicely to minute adjustments to frequency when near full in the past. But that is with stable solar output and not where clouds are broken and the solar it quite...

    Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

Tesla responded to my request to determine the strength of the surge but told be that they do not have that visibility. They also commented that if the PWs were in need of controlling the solar they would change the frequency. Of course there is no way the frequency response would have been...

    Charging Stopped Notification

UPDATE: I have not had the high power home charger interruption since the last post. And the intermittent charging spikes during the night have disappeared after a reboot. During the last service the SC replaced the charger port with a new one that has eliminated my plug in issues and even...

    Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

The hot tub is part of the backed up loads. It always has been. But I had some super inefficient heat pumps at the time of installation (2020) and we agreed that I would have to micro manage my loads during an outage as the PWs would certainly trip if those came on, even in cooling mode. But...

    Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

Tesla returned my email request with this: I have asked for a bit more information such as the inrush power amount. I have all new variable speed heat pumps and the hot tub was done with its cycle. The only other variable heavy loads I have (35 amp breakers) are well pumps. I would not expect...

    bad smell in cabin/rodent?

On a different car (an Acura MDX) I had on multiple events, caught a mouse in the HVAC squirrel cage. They usually got decapitated and stuck in the fan so it made a whop-whop noise when on. I would take it to the dealer to get extracted and a new fan installed. They always gave that job to the...

    Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

UPDATE: Tesla contacted via app and email response. Waiting. FYI: My system has been updated to the 62.5 Hz setting. I have a UPS on the NAS because that system does not like even 62 Hz. I have a few electronic light switches that also do not like that frequency and now maybe I have discovered...

    Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

I had to turn off heavier loads after the reset because I did not want to drain the battery, uncertain as to when the restoration would occur. Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

There are three inverters for my solar and all are monitored by CTs. I am not sure why the frequency did not go up when the PWs were at 97% like it should have. Even though there was not much solar being produced, as soon as the clouds parted, I would get 6 kW of solar spikes as can be seen in...

    Powerwall Reset During Grid Outage

How do i retract the spoiler?

The retracting spoiler moves flat so you can see out the window at speeds lower than 45 mph. Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

It's not dependent just on the solar inverter but other items you have that are frequency sensitive. So it could be lighting, your microwave, UPS etc. Make yourself a list of items that don't behave properly at 65 hz and tell Tesla what is not working. They should then drop it to something more...

Adding wall connector to main panel instead of sub panel.. can't see energy usage in app

It should be easy. Just two clips, a little fishing of wires and plugging in. Is this the only non backed up load you have? If you have another they may need to split the input so both are going into that feed. I did not catch if you had this WC installed before the PWs? If so Tesla should have...

Have Tesla add the CTs. They did it for mine. Note that there are only two breakers in my main panel: the wall connector (charger) and the backed up loads panel. See the CTs on the left breaker (TWC).

    Window not closing completely.
