    Trailer hitch on 2021 refresh?

Now that you've had the Eco Hitch for a while, how do you like it? I am intrigued by the stainless steel received. I'd get the Tesla hitch, but they want a Model X VIN to order the parts. I looked up one from a used car site but they either figured it out or the order is now on a vehicle I...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

I think this happens if you've changed the setting to require a double press to engage AP (so that a single press engages TACC only). The software has to have a slight delay to detect the difference between a single press and double press in that case. If you leave this setting at its default...

Performance of Refreshed MSLR vs. others

And from my data tonight (8 runs so far, 4 with and 4 w/o launch control, Cheeta Stance is worth almost exactly 0.1s in both 0-60 and final 1/4-mile ET. There is no doubt in my mind that it does something.

Performance of Refreshed MSLR vs. others

So one more confirmation of a refreshed MSLR not being able to hit a 3.1s 0-60 under pretty much the best possible circumstances. I’m at Bandimere Speedway finally getting in some 1/4-mile runs. My best run of the night is a 10.827 @ 130.67MPH according to the track. According to the Dragy, that...

    Extension cords: NEMA 14-30, 10-30, 6-50, or 6-20...

A dryer with a 10-30 plug would not be any less safe plugged into this adapter vs. plugged into a "real" 10-30 socket, but rewiring the dryer with a proper 14-30 cord would be the much better choice. There's really no difference between using this adapter for a dryer vs an EVSE—both are...

Performance of Refreshed MSLR vs. others

I'm still hoping to get to a proper 1/4-mile track (with prep!) and gather some data. Unfortunately, tomorrow's Test & Tune event is almost certainly going to be rained out and there aren't many left for the season. I would be surprised if the MSLR would still be traction-limited on a prepped...

    Does Anybody Else 'Wave' ?

I used to regularly wave at other Model Ses back in the "old days", but now on the rare occasion I do wave I pretty much never get a wave back (until it's a pre-facelift S). The 3/Y crowd (at least around here) definitely don't wave.

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

This is absolutely not true. The PB issue is with TACC, not AP. If you don't use cruise control you'll never have phantom braking, but you'll have lost functionality that just about every car made in the last 30 years has.

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

I believe I've already mentioned this twice in this thread, but PB happens to me far too often on divided, multi-lane highways. The triggers I've been able to identify are bridge guard rails and mirages on the road ahead. It seems to be less likely to happen from a mirage if another car is in...

Road trip range anxiety is still a thing?

I would never suggest that you can't do a road trip in a Y—you most emphatically can. We saw tons of Ys at small-town (so likely not locals) Superchargers on our road trips this summer, one or two even pulling trailers. The MYLR is probably about as easy to road trip in (range-wise) as my old...

Road trip range anxiety is still a thing?

This is why the Y isn't the best choice for long highway trips. It's the least aerodynamic of all the current Tesla models and the energy needed to push that tall frontend through the air at 80 MPH is just a whole lot more than with a 3 or S. With the refreshed MSLR range anxiety is pretty much...

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

So here's my issue with the whole "just learn and be prepared" to overcome PB responses: What I've learned so far is that bridge guard rails and "mirage/oasis effect" on the road seem to be common triggers. (I've not been able to correlate any of my PB events with shadows, but I wouldn't rule it...

    Trade in Y for S

These are pretty different vehicles. We have both a Y and a refresh S (both LR)—my wife drives the Y, I drive the S. The S is much more comfortable, luxurious (ventilated seats rock!), and quicker than the Y, but the Y has a higher seating position (which is the #1 criteria for my wife) and, as...

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

This is exactly my experience. It doesn't happen all that often, but it's highly unpredictable. I had it happen numerous times (10+) driving across Kansas on I-70 where there was literally nobody else in sight, so these are not like—as some others have suggested—a case of me not seeing something...

    2022.20.9 - Tesla Vision impressions

Just tonight, on a <10 mile drive on I-25 through town, the 2022 MSLR had a relatively mild phantom braking (probably only lost about 5MPH before I got on the accelerator), fortunately with nobody near. I filed a bug report, but I suspect those are being ignored until the magic day in the...

    2022.20.9 - Tesla Vision impressions

I have a 2015 S85D (i.e., AP 1, so only radar and one camera, the MobileEye system) and it did a great job "seeing" the car two ahead when they added that feature to the radar system. It also has exhibited phantom braking maybe twice (if that) in the entire 100K miles I've driven it. We had an...

Model S Plaid V11 Energy App missing

I recently completed a 3200 mile road trip prior to 2022.20 firmware and the nav estimate was identical to what the energy app showed. I'm now half-way through an almost 5,000 mile road trip with the 2022.20 firmware and the nav estimate has been very accurate (+/- 2% points of SOC) for me.

Refresh Model S/X yoke controls owners survey

Your question "How do you like the capacitive buttons for turn signals, windshield wiper, and the horn?" really should be broken out into two. I generally like the buttons for the turn signals, but the horn button is universally hated. Combining horn with the other buttons else is going to skew...

0-60 MPH for new Long Range Model S WITH and WITHOUT "Drag Strip Mode"

Launch mode takes off about 1/10th of a second in my experience. I've not timed my runs w/o preconditioning in Drag Strip Mode, so I can't speak to how much difference that makes, but I imagine it's some, even if you've just been charging. (It would have been interesting to know how long it...

Time to replace the P85D but not excited about any of the options

The mix of unlimited free supercharging and a new HV battery still doesn't address the fact that those old cars don't have the cooling to support full supercharging speeds. The difference is huge—at a 250kW charger, the refreshed S will charge at least *double* the speed of a 2015 S all the way...

Time to replace the P85D but not excited about any of the options

I'm only a sample size of one, but now that I've driven about 5K miles on my refresh MSLR, I can safely say "ditto" to this. When I get in my old 2015 85D or my wife's MY, I actually find the wheel a bit cumbersome. I've read all the comments from fellow "nose cone" owners and I agree with the...

    No Yoke

This was very much my opinion for the first 10 months after the refreshed S was revealed. But after reading these forums and watching video reviews of the refresh S and the yoke, I decided to try it. I've driven about 5K miles with the yoke so far and with the exception of the horn (which is...

0-60 MPH for new Long Range Model S WITH and WITHOUT "Drag Strip Mode"

Or maybe they want to go fast, but the $40K is more important. (In my car, it paid for trading in our 2018 M3P for a 2022 MY as well as all the PPF and tint for both the MY and MSLR, with money to spare.) This MSLR is my road trip car that I take to the drag strip for occasional fun...

Tesla in car Energy App and V11 software

For me, anyway, the main thing that the Energy app was useful for was the SOC prediction up arrival at your destination. This is now in the footer of the navigation list, and every bit as accurate as the old Energy app. The other parts of the Energy app were interesting, but not particularly...

Auto braking by it’s self when nothing is around.

While my anecdote is not data, I can say that in 100+K miles my 2015 Model S with AP1 (and therefore radar) has never once had an instance of strong phantom braking. (Mildly slowing at the very worst.) But our 2018 Model 3 did this frequently and on my recent 3,200 mile road trip in my new 2022...

A week in with the new car...and some questions for the more experienced

If you're streaming from Slacker (the default/included streaming service), you can't go backward in the song. It's been like that from day 1. If you're playing media from your phone, you can push the left wheel to the left to restart or skip backwards. Not sure about Spotify, as I don't use that.

Refreshed Model S Longe Range - Real World Range Test?

Structured tests are only useful for comparison between vehicles. It won't tell you how far you can go on your particular route at the time you're on it. Also, nobody in their right mind would drive 100% to 0%—you'd be charging for more than an hour and sweating bullets on arrival. I just...

    Model S Yoke Horn Confirmed

The point he was making was that the feature is in an upcoming release and that FSD beta participants receive new releases before non-beta participants. This makes perfect sense if you have any familiarity with how software is often developed and deployed. I am not vouching for the employee's...

    Model S Yoke Horn Confirmed

It wasn't that it needed testing or had anything to do with FSD, it was that the feature was finally implemented in the firmware train that is going out to FSD testers. (I gather those who are in the FSD beta are getting a different firmware release train than those who are not testing FSD.) My...

    Model S Yoke Horn Confirmed

I was at a supercharger a few days ago and met a guy there who claimed to be a Tesla employee. He asked me how I liked the yoke and we got to talking about the horn. He said he thought the center horn feature was enabled in the latest (or next) FSD beta firmware (which maybe isn't the same...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

Interesting. That M3P was about 1/10th quicker for the first half of the 1/8th but then the MSLR overtakes it and finishes slightly quicker and with a noticeably higher trap speed (103MPH vs 96MPH). Note that my MSLR run shown here was with an SOC of about 88%, but there was less than 0.15...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

I've got a lot of time slips from a 1/4-mile drag strip with our old M3P and it was slower than my MSLR up to the 1/8th mile that I've run the MSLR. (And I'm pretty sure the MSLR will outrun that M3P in the 1/4-mile when I finally get back to that track. We had a "stealth" M3P (lighter 18"...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

FWIW, this was at a totally unpreped track and traction was definitely an issue. (I could hear the tires chirp on launch and feel it struggle for traction until at least 40MPH.) I have yet to take it to a proper drag strip with proper surface prep. When I do, I'll post my results here.
  41. M

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

"Sandbagged" might be a bit strong—after all, the LR is the quickest non-performance Tesla yet. I think that word might be appropriate if the LR was touted as "performance" model, but it's "just" a "regular" Tesla. ;) I think it feels slower than the performance models because of the throttle...

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

Do you have another car you can try that charger on? I've got two Gen 2 wall chargers and a brief push of the button on either opens the charger door on both our Ses (2015 and 2022). It doesn't work as reliably on our 2022 Model Y, however. (The Y is generally much slower to respond to open the...

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

I have a 2022 with the new charge port door and I, too, have been unable to make it open by pressing it. When charging at a CCS station, I've had to open it from the touchscreen. Kinda annoying.

    Ccs or not?

I don't know if a 2014 even can be upgraded to support CCS, but it definitely should support Tesla's CHAdeMO adapter. They're very different things.

Best speed for automatic suspension lowering for long trip?

I've put in about 25K road trip miles on my 2015 S85D and in the early days I tried to measure the difference between normal and low suspension energy consumption. I could not detect any meaningful difference in energy usage and so left the car to ride at the default height for comfort and...

Tesla CCS Combo 1 Adapter - Comparison of Just a Few Possible Storage Options

Yes, bought the 2015 S85D new. That was one hell of an experience, and more than twice as much as I'd ever paid for a car at the time. My 2022 MSLR is my 4th Tesla and things have definitely changed. But rather than hijack this thread, I'll see if I can put together some thoughts. (Although...
