Practical use of the bioweapon defense mode feature

Oh, no doubt it's a marketing thing. I'm no expert in how the filter or this "bio defense" mechanism works and I'd expect 99 out of 100 Tesla customers in China to have no clue either. But here's the thing: you have a megacity of 20M+ people where (1) an ICE car will cost you $20K to register...

I posted a few yesterday. They are probably buried by now...

    Random Model X sightings

Sorry about that -- posted as a new thread and then realized it belongs to the existing "random sighting" thread. Could not figure out know how to delete a post....

    Random Model X sightings

I was going from Palo Alto to Cupertino this afternoon and decided to take a small detour to Tesla HQ to see if there was any Model X cars in the employee parking lot. No luck, just like the last two times... But when I got to this Asian grocery store in Cupertino, I was thrilled to see a blue...

Saw a blue Founder Series X in Cupertino today

I was going from Palo Alto to Cupertino this afternoon and decided to take a small detour to Tesla HQ to see if there was any Model X cars in the employee parking lot. Practical use of the bioweapon defense mode feature

if you drive one in Beijing/Shanghai, my guess is you'd want to have the bio defense mode on at least 1/3 of the time you drive. That's about how often the air quality is forecast to be "hazardous". so, clearly, a powerful marketing message for that market.

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2015

AJ is intentionally wrong this time. 1. Why is he wrong? Because not announcing a lower trim until a later time is a decision, not a limitation. It is a price discrimination play where Tesla will not introduce lower trims (hence lower margin) until productions ramps beyond top trim backlog. In...

Model X Design: Ugly or Sexy? Prius?!

That's exactly what I meant by "making an identity statement". Thank you for saying it so eloquently.

Model X Design: Ugly or Sexy? Prius?!

I heard the front bumper choice on the X was a (very) last minute decision. They (he?) made the decision to take a huge design risk to make a strong identity statement: this is an electric vehicle for the future and they will look very different and make some uncomfortable. I believe he tried to...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2015

To his credit, Lutz was one of the more progressive old timers when he was at GM. But still... It is amazing that so many seasoned executives fail to see the obvious substitution ICE by EV in the next couple of decades. Especially stunning was his comments on profitability, which is really a...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2015

Here's what I think is an important quote from the MacRumor.com piece. Essentially, if all Apple did this past year was validation of the idea, then they have a 3-4 year full development cycle to go through before they have a production-ready car to show: 1-1.5 years of design, 1-1.5 years of...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2015

Not sure how much help intellectual capacity can provide when it comes to understanding Trip. Some acid may do the trick... But hey, the guy's probably just having some fun on a Friday after one of his favorite stocks just came back from a 30% flash correction.

Long-Term Fundamentals of Tesla Motors (TSLA)

Completely agree with you. Steve Jobs was a maniac about the iPhone's design and manufacturing precision, and that frustrated many engineers. But there probably would have never been the iPhone if Jobs did not push everyone to achieve the impossible. Pretty sure what went on sale in June 2007...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2015

Thanks for replying to my first TMC post! Fair point on "upgrade buy" vs. replacement, especially given initial sales was heavily concentrated in the Silicon Valley where young millionaires are created daily.

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2015

A recent (June?) research note from Jefferies seems to confirm this hypothesis. They asked ~150 Tesla owners what cars they replaced / what they would've bought if they didn't get the Model S, and the answers were a surprisingly wide range of vehicles in various price bands. The biggest surprise...
