Supercharger - Cameron Park, CA (LIVE 12 May 2023, 12 stalls)

Good location but chargers occupied by deadbeats that unplug and stay. Indicated charger availability is a joke here.

Is Autopilot at fault in this accident?

Truck driver deserves ticket for failing to yield right of way. Tesla driver deserves ticket for failing to avoid an avoidable accident. Drivers are in charge, not equipment. Insurance "fault" is a matter of law in each state.

Tesla Issues Recall for Model X Steering Issue

Service tech replaced the bolts on my 2016 MS in my garage in about 25 min. Same size, different alloy.

    Tesla autopilot HW3

AP will become smoother only after anticipation is built in. That's how human drivers become smooth.

    Supercharger - Monterey, CA (Del Monte Center, LIVE 10 Aug 2017, 10 V2 + 4 V3 stalls)

Not sure when it was installed, but the shopping center put a trash and recycling container along with doggy poop bag dispenser next to the superchargers. Thank you very much - wish more locations would follow suit.

Model 3 steering - not loving it

I found the opposite. To me, the S is smooth and the 3 is twitchy. Perhaps it's me reacting unconsciously to the different cross-section of the 3 wheel in addition to the smaller diameter, but it's very noticeable on longer drives.

Autopilot disengagement, driving etc. out of main.

I think most of the shortcomings of all AP functions are a result of insufficient anticipation. Either through limitations of sensors or programming, it's very difficult to foresee potholes, lane marking irregularities, potential idiot maneuvers by other drivers, etc. Until all those are...

Long time reader, Just picked up "Used" 2015 85D through Tesla

Congrats! We bought our S85D in 2015 and now have almost 65K miles on it with no problems encountered. Road trips from Monterey to Yellowstone, Moab, Vancouver, Victoria, San Diego (separately) all were a breeze with plenty of supercharging and destination charging sites. Still comfortable...

Are you OK with AutoPilot jail?

APJail is fine, but there should be less onerous ways to get out of jail the first time or two.

Don't want heater on, want vent

Two set points would also be the least distraction solution while driving.

Blog Tesla Enables Speed Limits Through Mobile App

Speed limit mode should autoengage when AP nags are ignored or subverted. Emergency flashers should also come on to warn others nearby that the car is not under proper control.

    Supercharger - Grants Pass, OR

That was also true a few weeks ago when we were there. It would be nice if there were some standard way to flag those terminals as out of service so time isn't wasted with them, as has happened to some.

Autopilot during rush hour traffic .... a parting of the seas occurs .....

I've found the spacing control also affects acceleration when seas part. I can usually anticipate that parting whereas software cannot, so attentiveness is important. The inability to anticipate certain situations will limit the ultimate utility of self driving cars.

    Supercharger - Grants Pass, OR

Interesting, my wife and I both have fobs and we don't leave until we see the charger reach full rate. 2B failed twice before calling Tesla.

    Supercharger - Grants Pass, OR

2B and 2A have been reported as not working. Tesla is aware.

    Supercharger - Grants Pass, OR

Terminals 2A and 2B are not working on 5/27/18. Reported to Tesla and they already knew about it. Only one other MS here with me at 4 pm.

Blog Tesla: Autopilot Was Activated During Fatal Model X Crash

I see your line of thinking. On Bayshore, anywhere on the peninsula, 6 seconds seems like an eternity. At 60 mph, that's 0.1 mi or over 500 ft. I didn't see any mention of speeds when the accident occurred, but the "1" setting will only produce about 50-60 ft separation in my MS. In 500 ft...

Blog Tesla: Autopilot Was Activated During Fatal Model X Crash

Perhaps a bit off-topic, but ... I've never understood the desire for full autonomy in personal vehicles. It seems to be a sacrifice of independence. For full autonomy to be safe, it will have to control virtually all the cars for coordinated merging, lane changing, etc., and operate at speeds...

Blog Tesla: Autopilot Was Activated During Fatal Model X Crash

Kevin, Your use and my use are very much the same. My 2015 S85D has AP1 which I've used for several years now and I still feel the need to be within a second or two of taking over when it makes a mistake. I've found fewer mistakes in stop and go heavy traffic and on open roads, but frequent...

Blog Tesla: Autopilot Was Activated During Fatal Model X Crash

The company may have to initiate braking and more decisive action to prevent misuse of the ap system. Like engage emergency flashers, force slowdown, enter park, require change of driver ... eventually the misusers will get the message to stop over-relying on the gadgets and pay attention. AP...

For me the big benefit of autopilot is that it makes driving so much less fatiguing

I've found much the same on the central coast of CA. AP1 on a 2015 S85D has been a great stress reliever in slow & go traffic around the Bay Area, and a fatigue reliever on the open road on vacations to Jellystone, Moab, and Victoria. However, driving Hwy 1 through Big Sur is a different...

A thread for people with no problems

S85D here since 8/15. 40K mi: ~1100 mi/mo, 2 drivers, 90% home charging; 3/3000+ mi road trips, 2 drivers, 90% supercharging. Just replaced tires with less than 2K mi remaining tread. 2 annual service checkups - no issues. Car was built w/o reworks in factory. Waiting for Model 3 to use...
