Model S dashcam install (where to connect?)

Yes, ODB-II is required for all cars sold in the US. But the 2021+ Model S doesn't have continuous "12V" via the ODB port. I found this from TeslaTap Power Guide (a great resource!): It seems the diagnostic port may be a great place to tap in since it is off when the car is off and sentry is...

Model S dashcam install (where to connect?)

I'm going to install a Vantrue Nexus 4 Pro 3 dashcam in my 2023 Model S. In the older S's you could tap into the "12v" connection in the ceiling close to the mirror (there was a free cable you could connect to). The area of the ceiling doesn't exist on the new models. I've search this forum and...

Model S order changed from MSM to Stealth Grey

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

For me it was $3800 at California Casualty vs $2360 with Tesla. That's for a new MSLR and a 2015 85D. The FOMO is real, but for me the supercharging transfer is a lot more important than a '24 VIN or even an extra camera. I'm very happy with the car and I have already had someone comment on how...

It really depends on the light it's in. It is not black, but it is noticeably darker that Midnight Silver Metallic. Personally, I love it. I might be able to take some more comparison photos later.

Ordered 10/22. I took delivery today. Very good build quality. A couple of minor scratches (will buff out) and a small misalignment on the fender that they fixed on the spot. Compared to a Midnight Silver Metallic Model S: It's definitively quite a darker and different from the MSM. The...

2023 VIN assigned. Will take delivery on Tuesday. Don't care (much) about '23 vs '24 since I am not planning to sell within the next couple of years, and who knows when they will start adding the bumber camera. Pickup is at Dublin.

    PPF or not PPF

I've been going back and forth on PPF but after a lot of reading, and watching the two videos linked earlier in this thread I decided against it. The reasons are: The edges can curl back and collect dirt. Some say that won't happen if applied correctly, but the photos in this thread and...

Is MCU1 Getting Left in the Software Updates Dust?

I did the MCU2 upgrade in my 2015 85D and we think it's worth it. Obviously is a lot snappier and we have continued to get updates (last one was this week I think -- 2023.38.6).

    Free Supercharging transfer opportunity

Login to tesla.com and go to your car page. Right click and select View Source. Scroll to the bottom and look at the line that starts with {"props" If you have FUSC it will contain $SC01. If it says $SC05, it's the 'free supercharging' version.

Yes, I agree with you that it is possible that they would do that, I just don't think it is very likely. But then again, I'm waiting to sign to just before delivery...

This is the first indication from Tesla that they would do so. I hope your rep was well informed. Cheers

Finally! Free Unlimited Super Charging FUSC can be transferred

I think it is pretty clear that you won't lose free supercharging unless those things (cancel, reverse, total loss) occur after you take delivery. There would be an uproar if Tesla removed supercharging for people who signed it but didn't get their cars before the end of the year.

    Navigation/connectivity issues - Model S MCU1

Is it a pre- March 2018 model? Has it had the eMMC card replaced? https://www.tesla.com/support/8gb-emmc-recall-frequently-asked-questions We replaced our MCU when it started showing eMMC related issues. It was $2k and in addition to fixing the issues it also gives you a much faster computer.

new offer from tesla to transfer supercharging to 2024 model

We are discussing this question in this thread. And a new Model S Long Range is $75k.
  22. coder

    To upgrade or not

I think it depends on if you think it is worth spending to get a new car with many upgrades and much longer range. I decided to do it. Mainly due to the longer range and faster charging, but I'm also excited about a lot of other upgrades in the cars.

    Tesla's Free Unlimited Supercharging cost

Just remember that there would be no Tesla without those (us) early adopters paying $100k each for the early cars.

When will Tesla offer a vehicle with a listed range of 500+ miles?

We all have different needs. For many people the current available range is fine. For others, me included, having more range would make road trips more pleasant. I've taken many road trips in our 85D over the 8 years we've owned it and definitely would have enjoyed more range (and more than the...

Thoughts on another price reduction in the US for the MS P to meet 4th qtr #s

I think price adjustments to the S/X make a small lever compared to 3/Y because of the huge difference in volume. In other words, the extra number of people buying an S/X due to price decrease wouldn't move the numbers by much. I ordered an S (LR) today. I hope I get it before the end of the...

Tesla offers to transfer lifetime free supercharging to new vehicle

I'm strongly leaning towards taking them up on this offer. We have a 2015 MS 85D. It has about 100k miles on it and the trade in offer was only $11k (assuming perfect condition). The main reason -- by far -- for us to want to upgrade is to get the 405 miles of range. We do long trips (Bay Area...

    California FasTrak Positioning Requirements

The question is: does it work on 680? I have mine mounted on the rear screen (2015 Model S) and it mostly doesn't work on 680. Very frustrating, and I wonder how much more money Fastrak takes in as a result. Clearly the incentives aren't aligned.

    Fastrak Placement for 2016 MS

I have the same question. I think the issue is specifically with the newer tags that you can set to 1, 2, or 3 people. We have ours in the top of the rear window. It works on 580 but only sometimes on 680. Does anyone know if Model S before 2016 has a spot on the windshield where they didn't...

LOL... It's the color you ordered! Congrats! ;) Midnight Silver looks great at night / in dark light. It's a bit of a chameleon. Here's a shot where it looks grey: The car has had Opti Coat Pro+ applied (by Joe @ OCDetailing in Walnut Creek, CA) and the Windows are tinted.

    Disappointed with sound system...

Standard. Did a longer road trip today and played mostly classical music (flac ripped from SACDs (CD layer, but great recordings) from USB) and I was quite pleased with it. I think I need to give it more time with different styles to get used to its character. - - - Updated - - - Hmm, that...

    Disappointed with sound system...

I wasn't thrilled with the sound either. But then I played some high quality recording of off USB and it wasn't that bad. Could use more base so might get sub woofer (NVX?). But something is missing on some songs. More like mid range than bass missing or "odd". Compared to computer -> O2 DAC/AMP...

Who else is picking up tomorrow in Fremont? Sunday 2pm for me!

Yeah, I was looking for you a bit but there were just so many people. Our pickup took longer than expected and we didn't do the tour (because we had two more events that day).
