I did the MCU2 upgrade in my 2015 85D and we think it's worth it. Obviously is a lot snappier and we have continued to get updates (last one was this week I think -- 2023.38.6).

Login to tesla.com and go to your car page. Right click and select View Source. Scroll to the bottom and look at the line that starts with {"props" If you have FUSC it will contain $SC01. If it says $SC05, it's the 'free supercharging' version.

I think it is pretty clear that you won't lose free supercharging unless those things (cancel, reverse, total loss) occur after you take delivery. There would be an uproar if Tesla removed supercharging for people who signed it but didn't get their cars before the end of the year.

I think it depends on if you think it is worth spending to get a new car with many upgrades and much longer range. I decided to do it. Mainly due to the longer range and faster charging, but I'm also excited about a lot of other upgrades in the cars.

Just remember that there would be no Tesla without those (us) early adopters paying $100k each for the early cars.
