    Horsepower rating

Exactly. Its like saying yards are appropriate than meters. If you have Hp, multiply by 0.746 to get kW. If you have kW, divide by 0.746 to get Hp. Since more cars are rated in Hp than kW people in the general population (in the US) have a better sense of Hp than they do kW and will relate...

What's wrong with a car wash?

If the sprinkler heads go off, you have more to worry about than the "taking it through a car wash" syndrome. Unlike the movies make you think, if one goes off they all don't go off. Nor do they go off if someone pulls a fire alarm, or if there's smoke, etc. The heads are typically held...

Roadster Tire Pressure Monitor Reset Tool Group Buy

I bought one of these tools from Tesla shortly after I got my car in 2010 because I replace my wheels every fall and winter (summer to winter wheels) and at the time Chicago was my nearest service center (430 miles away). It only takes a minute or two to program the car and it is very handy...

    Should I get a Roadster?

What car is? I find it amusing the money people spend on high quality sound that can only be fully appreciated in a garage when the car is not moving. Cars are not places to really appreciate good sound systems. I guess if you only want the "Bang Bang" of bass to annoy everyone else at stop...

    Peeling headlight covers

The Ranger is on his way to replace my headlights with the HID upgrade. He said they ordered replacement headlights and got two Right headlights. When they tried to get the left, they were told they don't have anymore, and they're no longer made. So they sent an HID upgrade kit for my...

    Powertrain fault. Tesla service.

Tesla needs to be very careful about the quality of their service right now, otherwise the argument that the Dealers are making in states like TX, VA and NC start to gain traction. Their biggest argument seems to be that franchised dealers provide better customer service than a manufacturer...

    Roadster's Future

I don't know, if some are being valued as low as the mid $50k now with life left in the battery, by the time they need a new battery, battery replacement at 40k could total the car. Thus, they become 7yr disposables.

    Windscreen/windshield squirter reboot problem

You probably have algae growth in your reservoir clogging the outlet. The OEM fluid did not have enough alcohol to prevent growth. This happened to me as well. Simply remove the tank and clean the screen and refill with normal fluid. Prime the pump and you're good to go.

    2.5 Upgraded Electronics (Alpine) Bluetooth

I think to get the Bluetooth setup you need to have the car in park and cycle the handbrake a few times before it is available. I don't know about your phone, but I know the kce400bt needs a firmware update to work with the iPhone 4s, which I don't know it's availability

Roadster Owner Based Study of Battery Pack Capacity Over Time

I just had my first annual maintenance recently. The Tesla Ranger told me that the car will update the battery calibration if you take the car from approximately 80% charge down to 20% charge. However, this has to be done on a single key cycle, (i.e., do not turn the car off during this...

iPhone 4S and Alpine head unit Bluetooth connection Issues

Alpine's documentation for their KCE-400BT unit says that the latest firmware version (311) is compatible with Iphones up through the 3GS running software version 3.0.1. The date of their latest firmware update is 10/2010, so I would expect we need a new firmware update for the latest iPhone...

iPhone 4S and Alpine head unit Bluetooth connection Issues

I have the same issue. My phone shows its connected, I can access music via Bluetooth but the Alpine Says no telephone. I also can receive calls. If I park and clear paired devices, then pair the phone it then shows up on the Alpine. I've also noticed that the Alpine doesn't see the 4S when...

    $12K Battery replacement option

If they have sold any battery replacement contracts, I doubt you will see replacement batteries for less than 12K to the customer. They can't do that to their customers who bought the contract without some sort of compensation. Wouldn't be a good PR move.

    iPod won't connect

I was wondering if I need to cycle my iPhone after the car is turned on and the Alpine is booted up. Basically, once the Alpine is on I would then turn on the iPhone. If you go to the Bluetooth setup menu on the Alpine, and select paired devices, you can force it to connect with the device...

Any tips on detailing a Roadster?

I also use the Zaino products to wash/wax my car. One thing I do to minimize how wet my drying towel gets after washing the car is that I use a leaf blower to "blow dry" the car. This gets water out of the channel under the hood as well as other areas where it tends to collect. Then I come...

Sport vs. Non-Sport the same motor?

PEMs are identical. When my PEM failed (non-sport), the tech replaced it with a Reman PEM that has the Roadster Sport badge. In fact, he made a note to replace the badge with a non-sport during my annual maintenance. He told me the PEMs are identical, however, the firmware setup is different...

Have you reserved your Model S or do you plan on it?

Tire Pressure and tire life expectancy

I think the key is that the Nitrogen is dry, so that you don't get pressure variations as the water vapor in the air condenses when the tires cool, or add to the partial pressure when condensed water goes to vapor. Most air stations during the summer will fill your tires with warm moist air.

Charging problem and noises with the UMC 240

I don't think the rear fans have anything to do with battery temp. One is ducted to the PEM, the other to the motor. Its probably a warm PEM that has the fan going at the high speed. When the car wants extra cooling for the battery, the AC and front fans come on.
