They could still ship them on trains or trucks to major hubs, then send the car on its way from there. It would make buying in states like Michigan much less of an issue.

Since all cars will have the hardware, I wonder if Tesla will allow cars that haven't purchased self driving to participate in the Tesla ride sharing system. You could then "earn" your self driving feature for personal use. Tesla could even set up a system where you don't get the cash profits...
